When women do the voices of male characters in the Japanese version and are crappy at it

I know that there a lot of anime male characters voiced by women. Which ones do you feel actually suck at it? That, take the hatred many people have for English dubs but apply it to this.

I am also talking about the voice of it in an English is better by a woman or man and the Japanese totally failed on it.

Rie Kugimiya as Happy when I watch Fairy Tail is the main reason for watching the subbed versions muted a lot of the time. Her loli girl voice for other shows I've seen her in is the single most annoying voice I've heard in dubbed/subbed.

But I think even some of her native Japanese fans should admit that she and other seiyuu doing voices for boys/characters in general can be obnoxious at times. This type of thought applies to any woman doing a boy voice in any language.

The voice for the main R-15 guy being done by a woman is another epic fail. Junko Takeuchi as Naruto is an example where I will turn it on because I feel her boy voice for him is a lot damned better than Kugimiya's Happy.

Don't flame for this! Just as many people can feel that many English dubs have voices that don't match the character, I feel the same way for the Japanese version.

I am talking more in terms of teenage boys who don't look like/sound like they should be done by a Japanese woman but will include any boy character. there are times when women shouldn't do male voices. When do you think that is?

Finally, I am well aware the reason is mainly because it's harder for male seiyuu to do the voices because male voices tend to deepen and change when going through puberty and aging.

Usually, the female voice actors only do parts for boys, because a mans voice would be to deep for the role. Imagine having a six year old character having a 30 something year old mans voice. That's definitely worse than having a woman do the voice. You raised the point already but still...
Talking of crappy, I wonder what english dubs sound like these days.

Other than pointing out the obvious, do you have an example of when Japanese women should've not been cast as a male character?

there's not much of a difference, back in history, males used to play the roles of women in theater

i've watched a good many anime and have never complained about the female voice acting, then again, i usually don't give a crap unless it's absolutely horrible.. only exception is in dubs which i haven't watched for a very long time

Hiromi Konno who voices Sae Nakata in Amagami SS+ and its sequel.
Mikako Takahashi who voices Ren from Elemental Gelade
Yui Ogura who voices Hinata from Ro-Kyu-Bu!
Yukari Tamura who voices various anime characters with her high pitched voice. (rose fame with Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha)
Sakura Tange
Kana Hanazawa

None of these should be casted as a male character imo as their voices tends to not match a male character.

Yes, Rie Kugimiya should also belong to this category although I have heard her voice acting in this one particular anime where her voice was surprisingly natural and bit deep. I can't recall which anime it was though but I was surprised when I found out it was her who did the voice acting.

i actually like some of the voices that stark posted, they males are usually kids and i see how girls can pull that off. and they do it decently but not the best.

people have the peeves for certain voices, i don't like how the voices for characters thats suppose to be in when they are in psychotic modes in shonen anime. thats usually where females boundry is broken. but im not to picky with it.

Ya same, they do have talent as the reason they're employed for voicing various animes.

In fact, I actually don't hold anything against those VA I listed. Only voice actors I really have a problem with are the dubbed actors/actresses like the one that messed up Deidara's voice in Naruto Shippuden and Akito in Air Gear.

That's just my opinion though as some people will most likely disagree with me.

There are also alot of good dubbing VA although that's a whole other topic.
