WOW I can't believe this one is coming to CR!!!

Oh but US only?

US and Canada, looks like.

It's too bad, but the producers of Madoka have been really stingy with the publication rights. They've been trying to root out fansubs, too. Personally I think it is a bit nearsighted because they would make more money by streaming it worldwide... but they might be trying to encourage the DVD sales.

Hopefully when this limited amount of streaming succeeds, they will release it a bit more widely. With that in mind... *goes off to watch*(

I somehow knew before even reading the post that this would be NA only, lol.
So I kind of dodged the disappointment this time.

People in Canada are now offended, since you just made them part of the United States.

It actually states "for North American audiences only", but I suspect that despite the fact it is indeed part of North America, it probably doesn't include Mexico.

Yeah, when it comes to region codes, I'm pretty sure that the North America region is "them thar' English speakin' people" while the South American region is "them thar' Spanish speakin' people." I assume it simplifies the localization process because if you get the rights from the NA region, you only have to localize it into one language.

I've been wanting to see now I'll just watch it on crunchyroll in 1080p but sucks that we have to wait a week between episodes when the show is all done already.

One of the reasons I'm proud to be an American: getting anime first(ish)!

Honestly, I do find it kind of crappy that other countries can't get this yet. It sucks for all the paying members who live in Non-North American countries. They're paying and they still can't get some releases.

STUPID CR, I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN I FOUND OUT CR WAS GOING TO HAVE THIS BUT I CRIED SO LOUDLY WHEN I FOUND OUT IT ONLY FOR NORTH AMERICA. I WAS DYING TO WATCH THIS, SINCE I LOVED THE MANGA, AND NOW I CAN NEVER WATCH THIS.

Having seen the livestream last weekend (need to be up at 5.30 on a Saturday, so an hour early wasn't so bad...and worth it ) I'm really hoping this is eventually licensed in the UK (can't find any indication it has been yet?). I know its popular, and have seen just the recent ANN review of the US bluray release that says its also very good.

Guys, you owe me several hundred dollars, many portions of my computer exploded when I opened this news!!!

In all seriousness, I am blown away that you managed to pull this off and get this series. I am truly grateful! I've heard so much good about this show, but I instantly dropped fansubs when CR came into its current form, so I didn't see Madoka Magica upon that chance. And DVDs are still an impractical expense. *throws more money at CR* Y U NO ABSORB MONEY THROUGH MONITOR? Now I can see what all the excitement it about. I'll probably have a stronger desire to have more of it around too after this, certainly several anime (Steins;Gate) have pushed me to get their visual novels afterward.

It is certain that as I have better money, I'll downgrade my membership so as to renew more often at slightly more expense (still amounts to a more practical expense than buying DVDs at a rate equal to anime viewed). Wish there was a more convenient way to throw money at this...

Just as my computer components exploded, I can outright hear the hearts shatter of non-NA viewers. I get all the good stuff, but it's still disheartening to me that licensing works this way, it makes no sense in our increasingly united world (hence "global" economic collapse). I assume pirates will act in spite, so good luck with expanding the regions.

Madoka fans outside North America are not entirely left in the dark. The Blu-rays are region free!

Great, another show that I cannot watch... Can anyone remind me why exactly I still pay for a subscription on this site...?

Crunchyroll is getting this from AniplexUSA, who only have North American rights to offer. So they are doing all the licensing they can.

Who was doing the original licensing who denied Crunchyroll the simulcast streaming license in the first place ... I don't know, but I reckon they were being silly. They just gave a monopoly to the bootleggers.

I guess I will just have to wait to watch this show, again.

I'd disagree with you ~ none of the new shows I've been watching in the last two seasons have been US/Canada only ... Squid Girl 2 was everywhere outside of Asia, Chihaya Furu is North America, Oz&NZ, UK&Eire and South Africa, Hunter x Hunter is the same, Fate Zero was North America, Oz&NZ, UK&Eire, Miniskirt Space Privateers is North America, Oz&NZ, UK&Eire, Scandinavia and the Netherlands, and South Africa; and Knight of the Area is North America, Oz&NZ, UK&Eire and South Africa. And Morita-san wa Mukuchi the best of the shorts they've had yet in my eyes, was worldwide outside Japan

So for someone with my tastes, living in South America, Africa outside of South Africa, Southeast Asia the Mideast or most of Europe would force me to look into ahem alternative means, saying that they are US only is quite unfair.

If I was living somewhere with more region blocking, it would be based on what anime I could watch. I expect if I was living in one of the "half and half" places like South America and the Caribbean, I'd make my subscription decision a season at a time, maybe turning it on one or two seasons per year to catch up. If I was living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, I'd drop down to ad-streaming for the few series I could actually watch.

Indeed, I think they should offer a "per series" rate where you can pay one month's rate and get premium access to the first episode of each series and then ongoing access to two series of your choice for four months from the start of the season. That would make it easier for people with limited access to make the choice to subscribe for one or two series, and then the extra subscribers would make it easier for Crunchyroll to get more streaming rights for that country.
