HIGURASHI NO NAKU KORO NI, or the english version, WHEN THEY CRY, has now been released in Canada! woooo!
There were rumours that those making Higurashi were having problems and were going to end the show without a third season, or releasing in Canada/USA. That, however is not the case now, and just the other day i purchased for 43.00 Canadian, 'When They Cry' vol. 1.
Pricey? Yes i know, but it was totally worth it.
The second volume is already being shipped to my favourite store where I get my anime, and should be there in about a week.
HOPEFULLY there will be a special edition box set, like the ones they have for Jigoku Shoujo or Death Note that includes artboards, acton figures, calendars, and much more.

WARNING:
the english dubbing is very ONE PIECE, POKEMON-esk, and will probably make you want to claw your throat out like me and some friends did the other night watching it.

on a better note...the quality is good, the show is amazing, and you just can't go wrong adding 'When They Cry' to your personal show collection.

O yeah, do you know if this is the international version? I would like to get it to add to part of my collection.

Hmm. Interesting. They're selling it in futureshop. It came out in June 6th, 2007.
Also, it's 28 and 36 dollars in Futureshop.

I thought they were selling the RAW version.. lol it said 'Audio: Japanese' and nothing else. I'd rather buy the DVD with the RAW and the dub which is usually just a few dollars more or a few less.

I think they're selling it for the same price at Chapters, lol.

I saw that a few months ago at a video rental store in Canada. I think there's only volumes 1-3 comming out though, since Geneon dropped in like a hot potato.

Not unexpected of Geneon

True, but a bunch of T.V. stations in Japan dropped Higurashi too.
There was an incident where a girl tried ot murder her father, who was a police officer, with a cleaver much like Rena has. Someone, somewhere on the internet (I heard a rumor it was 4chan) mentioned it seemed a lot like the anime Higurashi, and it exploded.
So two, or maybe even three, (I've heard it was all but one so...) stations in Japan that were airing Higurashi stopped airing it and Geneon stopped dubbing it.

Can't say I'm too displeased about that, the dubbing was god-awful. I didn't even get to hear all their vioces because I couldn't take it past Keiichi's and Rena's.

I've heard of that incident. In Japan, they only stopped airing Higurashi for one week, then resumed. Although, i'm not sure if the girl was influenced by the Higurashi anime to kill her father.

Okay, I hadn't heard they started airing it again, that's good to hear.

I don't think she was influanced by Higurashi, really. It's just like the people who blame Marylin Manson for Columbine. These people, if they were influanced at all by this media, clearly have a problem distinguishing reality from fiction/fantasy. If it wasn't Higurashi, it would have been something else. I'm glad the Japanese aren't as stupid as those of us in North America.
If that happened here there would be huge rallies and people wanting to burn the writers at the stake, or at least jail them.

I've actually seen that happen in Japan more than North America.

Usually if there's one small crime, they censor any anime that is similar to that or stop airing it. :/

I guess I just pay more attention to anime than stuff that happens in North America. -_-
