Why do antifans exist?

I'll list a couple reasons that I have noticed as primary causes for the anti-fan.

Some people just can't come to terms with the fact that not all other people think like them, and like the same things. So they get mad that others do not share the same opinion as them since they believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong. They end up bashing the fans and whatever the fans are fans of for this reason.

Some people are anti-fans of something because they were expecting something they would like due to over-exposure through media and/or other people. Annnnd, it turns out that all the hype just wasn't deserved in the end, so that can leave one bitter.

One reason might be is because it's fun to hate popular people.

Oh and I might as well add something 'on topic.'

The saying 'Haters gonna hate' has become so over-used as to be ridiculous...

...but sometimes it is right on the money.

Some folks just need to make themselves upset about something.

Because some famous people flat out don't deserve their fame. Anime characters that are annoying and stupid and hypocritical and screw up the main character's plans also tend to generate hate.

Yep you are pretty much preaching to the choir. The only interesting debate I have had with someone who doesn't believe in gay marriage is that, if you allow it no matter what the majority of people think then it is no longer a democracy. I countered with slavery. He called me an ass for comparing the two. end of discussion. I'm curious what you would say when confronted with it. Is granting gay- marriage when a majority of people in a state oppose it a democratic thing to do? To keep somewhat on topic, maybe some anti-gay marriage people are simply responding to liberals that piss them off.

I don't know your country of origin, so I'm just going to say that I'm coming from an American political perspective.

You're illustrating why democracy is one of the most moronic, self-destructive political systems in existence. You're also illustrating a great reason why the United States is not and never has been a democracy.

The whole point of having a constitution that insures the protection of a certain basic set of acknowledged rights*, and to have a government that exists by a set of specific principles, is designed to protect people against the insanity of democracy. If the whim of the majority were enough to take away your own life, liberty, and property, then we would all be at continuous risk. Why? Because while most people tend to side with the majority most of the time, nearly everyone holds a less than popular opinion about >something<.

Democracy is a favorite tool of tyrants because of its ease of manipulation and the appearance of authority granted by a leader 'simply following the will of the people.' You look at some of the most insane regimes of the 20th century, and they all at least pay lip service to democracy -- even if they ignore the people later, the popular mandate is almost needed to really get atrocities off the ground.

Everything about (for example) the American Bill of Rights is only meaningful because it protects minority opinions. It recognizes that while the will of the majority of people is important, it should not -- it cannot -- in and of itself be enough justification to oppress a minority.

Now, whether gay marriage is part of this 'right' is still worthy of debate, but democracy should never be part of the equation.

* -- I just want to add that the Constitution, and the government, does not 'give' or 'grant' rights. The Constitution recognizes the preexistence of certain rights, and is a document that acts as a contract by which the government promises to protect those rights in exchange for the government's continued right to exist. Yeah, it may seem like a minor point, and sure, a powerful government can try to take whatever it wants...but I feel that it is a philosophically superior position for people to always remember that there is no big brother or quasi-divine government who 'gives' them the right to exist. My apologies for the side-rant :)

Also, my apologies for taking part in the sidelining of this thread. I'd be happy to also discuss this in PM

Well Churchill said it best. "Democracy is the worst way to run a country... except for all the other ways."

but you're right off topic and taking it to PMs.

Because the fans get too annoying. If a popular character didn't have annoying fans, they wouldn't have anti-fans. Sure people still dislike that particular character, but when lots of fans goes all "NarUto is the bestest character in da world!", it makes things escalate and then someone gets too fed up with it and becomes an anti-fan.

In shorter words:

Hysterical fans creates anti-fans.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Because we all have the right to having our own opinion and we all perceive other differently? I could turn the tables and ask why some people go apeshit crazy and obsessed over some characters, but I don't because I know that it's just their opinion.
