After watching episodes of Listen to me, girls, I'm your Father, it came across my mind that anime really hates parents. I see this cliche in nearly all of anime. They are either dead, missing, always at work, always at business trips or abroad. It's very contrived and it's very annoying. Can someone explain to me why?

Well I think they do it to give the Main character freedom to do whatever he or she wants eg: fight bad guys save the world and whatever, cus if their Parents were around they would say no to them and thne there would be several episodes for the main character to convince their Parent to let the fight evil. However I do see your point that Parents are hardly ever around in some anime's and those excuses as to why they're not present is used so much now that you could argue that it's a cliche in most anime nowadays, or this could maybe a reflection on their culture where kids who have their Parents work abroad and can live by themselves with their Parents paying for their living costs at home.

As for "Listen to me girls, I'm your Father!" I suppose their Parents had to be either dead or lost somewhere on Holiday lol in order for the plot to exist hence the title.

PS: Funiest bit about the episode when their Parents died was when the relatives said that Miu's mother was no good as she couldn't speak Japanese lmao, I was in stiches she's still Miu's mother lol at the discrimnation there.

at least they say they're "missing" instead of "dead" so they somehow acknowledge that they might be alive.
