I watched all the dvd versions, right up through the original episode 26, and then immediately watched The End of Evangelion right after. With all of that in mind, of all the people that died, I was hoping Shinji would be one of them. I hated him as a character from episode 1 and nothing in the series changed that. I laughed at the original anime ending. You could really tell they had run out of money. It was so bad. The movie was better, and actually enjoyable, up until the latter half. Then all of that rapid fire bullshit started up again with abstract scenes, a mix of real-life shots with everything else, and so on. Some people may like this, but personally I was simply annoyed. I'm also surprised I didn't have a seizure. I liked the series up until around episode 20, but it just went downhill from there. Definitely won't watch again.

These are amazingly the EXACT feelings I have about Evangelion. I went through the entire series (which includes watching the original ending). I did this thinking: "Hey, I'll go back and watch End of Evangelion after this anyways. May as well see how sucky the original ending was and then compare the two different endings." But after finishing the series I had no interest in seeing the End of Evangelion.
