I love hardcover books because they just feel so nice and look smashing on a book shelf. I like the added weight and the overall feeling of quality. That being said, poor quality hardcovers are terrible!

However, I tend to buy more paperbacks because that way I can afford double the books!! So I like paperback for that reason.

So I guess I don't really have a preference. As long as it is not digital, it's all good with me. I don't think I could ever have a Kindle or Nook. I don't think there is anything wrong with digital books and have no issues with them, they just aren't my style.

Hardcover, if I can get it. They may weigh more, but they don't deteriorate because of sweat as easily, and can be read more than paperback. They also last way longer, and the dustjackets are always nice looking.
I do like paperbacks, though. I don't care for the mass market ones as much, though (they don't seem to last, and are often a lot more boring cover wise). But I'll still read them, though XD. A book is a book to me. As long as it's good, I like any form (well.. except ebooks on the computer. I get distracted too easily)

If the book is good then it doesn't matter but I love holding a big hardcover book in my hands

If it's a book I really love I will get it in hardcover. If it's something disposable that I'll read once I'd rather it be paperback because it's cheaper and takes up less space.

I've been slowly gathering up the Wheel of Time books from local thrift stores, so I own some of them in paperback and some in hardcover. Whenever I get around to reading them I'll decide if I want to replace the paperbacks with hardcover editions, based on how much I like the story.

Paper backs are cheap, but they're fragile-- that's not very good considering how clumsy I am. However, since I'm always broke, my mom buys my books and she doesn't like to spend too much money. Especially not on books. So, I'm gonna have to go with paperback.

For the beauty, hardcover. For reading comfortably, paperback.
