I don't know if someone asked this question or not but since I looked for a forum and could not find any related, I'll ask anyway.

What anime movie or series would you like Hollywood to turn into a live action if it could be done with the same quality or better as Transformers or the recent Marvel movies out?
(I am only using them as a reference the main point is a live action done in the greatest way possible for a live version)

I would personally like the following.

Armitage
Appleseed
Macross
Devilman or Devilman Lady
Vampire Knight
Moretsu Pirates
Elfen Lied
You're under Arrest! or Burn Up!
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Guilty Crown
Black Lagoon
Hellsing
Mission E
The Daughter of Twenty Faces
Detective Conan
Valkyria Chronicles
FMP and ROD
Mai Hime and Otome
Birdy the Mighty
12 kingdoms (if Peter Jackson Directed it)
Freezing

These are just a few I can think of right now There is more but can't think of them.

This.

Anything US made is usually raped to all hell and back by corporations having free reign over the license content.

Kind of like I'm expecting to happen to Akira. If it ever comes out.

Though I doubt anyone could find proper funding and it would be Americanized so badly,
Neon Genesis or Steamboy might be cool with a live action adaptation.

Micheal Bay would love adding all the explosions.

Okay I agree with everyone on DB and Speed Racer sucked even worse, however Blood was decent and if we look at video game to movie transitions Super Mario Bros. DOA , SF and Double Dragon sucked but as then came Mortal Kombat , Resident Evil Prince of Persia and a few other pretty good if not awesome movies So they can make a good movie if they get worthy actors and great special effects. As long as the company actually wants to make a good film instead of just throwing in a bunch of characters from the anime together and calling it a "Movie" they could do it. Imagine Macross done with the same special effects as "Transformers" and "Star Wars"

Bleach is being made by W B so will see then whether or not they can make a movie that can at least not provoke the fans.

I would rather see something anime-inspired than a direct live-action anime interpretation. There are a whole bunch of reasons...

For one...there's the same problem that you have with the Manga to anime translations -- there is always some manga geek who is going to start whining that it isn't exactly the way he imagined it...or another one who will start blabbering about the next plot twist before you get to see it.

Second, and for me the most important -- there are certain things you can allow yourself to believe in an animation that are INCREDIBLY difficult to manage in 'real' life/live action, even with fantastic special effects. Not just amazing feats of athleticism or technology, but even many plot points/narrative elements. I just tend to have a different form of 'suspension of disbelief' flexibility with animation that is very different than what is acceptable in live action.

Third, considering the track record for this type of interpretation in the past, I'm just going to be looking for disappointment. And this isn't just with American interpretations of live action from anime -- I think that the overwhelming majority of live-action anime inspired films or TV series' made in Japan also tend to suck. At best they are 'kinda cool,' but not memorable.

I'm sure people can find some examples that are interesting, and I'm not saying it's impossible (not at all) -- just extremely difficult in a market with far more failures than memorable successes.

But who knows, if someone is willing to shell the money out on the production, I'd probably make the effort to see it...plenty of folks have become successful by defying the odds. But in general, that kind of success is only once every few years, with maybe one or two 'good enough for now' productions in any given year.

I thought about Index as well, but then this came to mind:

Unless they toned down all the violence and cursing (and the "unlucky" moments Touma has with the female characters/Accelerator & Last Order in general), I think it'd be headed towards an R rating.

It would be interesting (for better or for worse) how it would be adapted, though.

I watch anime not anime turned live action. If they did become live action I will ignore it completely. I come to CR to watch anime not the drama.
