New Spring Titles: Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos

These series with episodes that are 1-3 minutes baffle me. A lot of them have interesting concepts and/or themes or what have you, so why not just make it a full 22-24 minute episode? I can't really get invested in a story or characters when each episode is so short and there is no time to develop anything other than just a one off gag.
I guess that might be the appeal for other people, a series where they don't have to worry about a complicated story with lots of plot and character development, so they can just turn off and be entertained. But darn it, this series like a good number of others, in my opinion, would be so much better if they were given a the full 22+ minutes. |

The first two "seasons" were net animations, done in Flash. The "third" series that premieres in April will be using traditional animation. If the animation style bothers you that much, I advise waiting until April. That is good to know. Does the upcoming season build upon the first two seasons or is it standalone? |

Yeah! Loved the flash shorts.
I'm sure the actual anime which is supposed to really have a story must be fun to watch . When I first watched the flash shorts I was hoping for the actual animation. Glad you guys got it |

And if it does use traditional animation, shouldn't it just be called season 1 of the actual series? >_> |

Khaltazar wrote: That is good to know. Does the upcoming season build upon the first two seasons or is it standalone? The first two seasons were sort of short comedic sketches and had small segments which seemed to have "plot" - alien invasion or something. So, I don't think it's necessary to watch them, it may help but you should wait till the new season comes out first to decide. Animation wise, the first two seasons where done by a different studio, DLE, this new season is being done by XEBEC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiyore!_Nyaruko-san Very little information in the Wikipedia page too, so you may want to watch the first two seasons for a taste what the new season is about or look at trailers/PVs. The first two seasons are relatively short anyways, ~45 seconds to 1 minute long - the songs themselves are most of the episodes anyways. |

The original net animations were no doubt short for the same reason they were in Flash: limited budget. As to whether is should be season 3 or not, that is why used the quotation marks in my earlier message, as I expect it will be essentially stand-alone. After all, even if they wanted to cover some of the content in the shorts, it could probably be handled in a single episode. CR probably got the Flash shorts thrown in for next to nothing with the license for the actual series. I also have a sneaking suspicion that CR makes out better on ad-supported views of these short series than they do on ad-supported viewing of standard length series. |

Probably but I would rather them use the money to getting Milky Homes second season instead. |

Kira0309 wrote: Probably but I would rather them use the money to getting Milky Homes second season instead. Milky Holmes didn't perform well on CR, but apparently did in Japan (enough to get a second series), so Crunchyroll was probably be asked for a higher minimum guarantee to get the second series than was financially feasible. In any case, it is academic now since Funico has the license for the second Milky Holmes series. |

I was suspecting that the flash seasons would be more of a precusor to this new anime series rather than true continuation, especially considering there is no real story or plot to be had in the 1 and a half minute shorts. And yeah, the ads for these episodes are probably very profitable for CR but I suspect that very few free members are going to watch more than the first episode as the ads will effectively double the length of the episode, and I know I wouldn't want to go through that with the animation being so bad (while the flash is better than most amateur projects, it is worse than nearly all professional made flash series if this was indeed made by a whole studio and not just a single person). |
