Ooh, haven't noticed this. It looks pretty fun. Once you say what more you intend to, I too will give my input on what I think of the title's spelling.

I was excited at first another new show to join crunchyroll, but was sad how short they were. Semmed it took longer to load shows then show lasted, I'm hoping episodes are longer in later shows. 1-30 minutes is great but anything less then 8-9 min and not having an idea what's goin on kinda makes me sad.

On my iPhone some of the episodes tell me to become a premium member to watch even though I already am.

These series with episodes that are 1-3 minutes baffle me. A lot of them have interesting concepts and/or themes or what have you, so why not just make it a full 22-24 minute episode? I can't really get invested in a story or characters when each episode is so short and there is no time to develop anything other than just a one off gag.

If their source material is a 4koma manga, then they are like US comic strips ~ four panels (stacked vertically) tell one gag.

The chapters are normally fairly short, and sometimes there is a running story in a chapter, but sometimes they are only loosely connected in a single chapter. A single 4koma chapter is rarely something that actually fleshes out to 22 minutes worth of material in a single "arc".

The way Squid Girl handled that was by doing three stories a week ~ the "gag every minute or two" pacing clues you in that its a set of 4koma strung together.

The Flash anime are just one or a few 4koma strips, and since they are cheap to make, they can make money as web-only productions.

Thank you for the explanation , I thought it was something like that. Guess it's all entertainment in the end and that's what matters ^^

One 8-minute episode would be just about right for a lot of 4koma, but that would cost to much for web-only webisodes and wouldn't fit into the way Japanese TV programming normally works.

I think the TV networks like the short anime because they can slot it in between two longer anime, and the break before and after the short anime gives an extra ad slot.

I prefer how Squid Girl handled it, but if its material I like, like Moritasan wa Mukuchi, I just wait a month and "marathon" four or five shorts at once.

When I am counting how many series different regions get, I count the short anime as 1/10 of a series.

It is actually based on a light novel series, which is why I am confident the TV series this spring will be standard length episodes.

There was also a 4-panel manga (Haiyore! Super Nyaruko-chan Time), however, which may have been the basis of the short ONAs.

Could well be. OTOH, since I'm not like to ever check those manga out, I'll never know for sure.
