Since I don't know if either a: a person is just trying to take grammatical shortcuts or b: a person honestly has no idea how to spell, I won't concern myself with their (mis)use of the English language. I know how to write. So as long as I'm fine with what I've written, I'm good.

You should have put "Does grammar faults irk you?" as the title, to get their attention

No, it doesn't bother me at all

I understand the frustration with the shorthand stuff seeping its way into written communication, e.g., forums, blogs, and social networks. However, It's no different than creating outlines while you take notes. It's just streamlined efficiency.

I think the real issue is when people aren't willing to over look a typo or a missing comma and instead of focusing on the content of a message they focus on the formatting. Often I've seen someone post a comment where they're entirely correct, but get torn down because they used "their" instead of "they're" or "loose" instead of "lose" in a context were the intended meaning was evident. Take a moment and just relax! It's easy enough to tell from the context of the situation what the author's intended meaning is.

Not really. There are many different people all here on the internet, some don't speak English as their primary language. I can see politely correcting someone about a common grammatical error, but I personally think its utter crap when someone belittles another just because they can't spell as well as them.

I don't like the misuse of your & you're, than & then, their, there, & they're. I'm a bit of a grammar Nazi, but the internet is kind of overrun by poor spelling, punctuation, & grammar. I'm just saying it could make a big difference. "Let's eat Grandpa!" or "Let's eat, Grandpa!"...you could save a life, you never know.

Yes. It especially bugs me when I can't even understand what they were trying to convey.

Spring forum cleaning! Since it's a new month I'm closing all the old threads in room for the new ones. We close old threads from 6 months past with no activity. Please recreate if you wish to do so!
