So as many of you know this months issue was the last physical print of Shonen Jump Monthly by Viz. So i thought a thread talking about shonen jump over the years, its impact on you, your favorite issue, and your opinion on this goodbye issue would be appropriate.

So to begin how has shonen jump impacted you ?

NOTE: Shonen Jump is still around, Viz is no longer making physical monthly issue but instead is releasing a weekly online version called Shonen Jump Alpha (thought I'd clear that up for anyone that was confused)

I haven't read Shonen Jump in years but I owe Shonen Jump for getting me into the world of manga. I had the very first issue twice in my life, and the second time I purchased it, it was $25 dollars.

I used to really only watch Sailor Moon and the other Toonami animes. But I will never forget the first time I read manga. I prefer reading over watching tv, so manga was like the best of both worlds. There were images and words!! That may seem silly but it was a big deal to me. I used to go crazy every month buying the new Archie, Betty and Veronica comics, and manga was something else. It wan't random. It had plot, connecting stories, interesting characters, and everything else that makes a manga unique.

I don't remember my favorite issue, but I remember how awesome it was when Naruto premiered and reading Yugioh. I haven't had an issue since maybe when I was 18 right after I finished high school I think. But I'm glad you posted this because otherwise I never would have known, and I will definitely be getting the last issue for nostalgia...and collector's sake.

I remember back when I was like 14 I picked up a shonen jump and saw Gaara. ^_^ And that's what made me watch Naruto, and got me into anime. I really owe Shonen Jump for showing me what the Eastern community had to offer!

I havent read it in so long but i loved every second of it. I bought the first issue and i was so pumped about it. I stopped buying them frequently due to the store i bought them from didnt sell them anymore. It really got me hooked on some of my favorite anime like naruto and shaman king.

Well I had my last Shounen Jump years ago. There was once upon a time a publisher that published Shounen Jump here in Norway, as well as Sweden and maybe Denmark as well. Well they stopped publishing it awhile ago.

Either way Shounen Jump haven´t had any deep impact on me, as I had bought the series in volume and not per chapter like in Shounen jump, years before I knew what Shounen Jump was.
I did like the extra bit of content beside the manga chapters that was in Shounen Jump, I kinda miss those.

Wow. really? why did they stop printing it? was it because less people wanted to buy the printed version because digital versions are easier to access?

Considering this is basically -the- most long-running manga magazine in the US, and the last one to exist in print....this is sad. It's the end of an era, I suppose, heh.

I remember picking up an issue of SJ in the grocery store when I was a little girl. It had Yu-Gi-Oh on it, lol, so I was drawn to it like a moth to a lightbulb. Imagine my shock when I realized it was one of the manga-only arcs, the Kaiba Death Trap tower one IIRC! Hahaha. I remember not being sure of how to read the thing at first, but I told my mom after I finished "I want to know what happens next. I think I'm doing it right!!" And thus my journey into manga collecting began.

I don't read SJ much anymore, so this doesn't concern me, but it still is so shocking. I wonder if we'll ever see a print manga magazine in the US again..? o:
