Shonen Jump is what got me into manga in the first place. Up until then I had never heard of it.I really can't remember the first issue I bought but it was with Naruto Shippuden on the cover. It was also the first issue that featured Slam Dunk for the first time. Thanks to that I now own Naruto and Slam dunk manga on my shelf. Of course, I got curious about shojo so I now have some that too.

The discontinuation of the printed magazine was sad and disappointing but certainly not a shock. Everything is being sent to digital media more and more for various reasons these days. And that's okay its just there something to be said for having printed material in your hands.

Shonen Jump probably got me into reading manga (rather than just anime). It was so long ago, I have no idea what was on the cover when I bought it... maybe BLEACH? Anyway, I only had about 10 volumes and I gave them away maybe a year ago.

It kind of makes sense though since comic magazines aren't that popular (in North America at least) and kids/teens nowadays just download more than ever (instead of buying things). Not really a market for it to be that profitable.

I love the physical copy of Shounen Jump but I guess it was good for business to change to digital.

Wow no more Shonen Jump (physically)

Does that mean it'll be cheaper (since they don't use paper to print)??

The price is 25 dollars a year for a subscription, you get to keep each weekly digital issue for 52 weeks(1 year). Each weekly issue is about 120 pages( I believe so don't quote me ) so thats 480 pages a month (180 pages more then the average monthly shonen jump of 300 pages). The chapters for the manga series in shonen jump will, after they have caught up , will be released 1 or 2 weeks (can't remember) after the japanese counter-part has released in Japan's Shonen Jump.
You can also rent a single issue for 99 cents and that allows you to keep that issue for 4 weeks.

ALSO to clear up any confusion i added a note to the original post saying that shonen jump is still around but is just online

I just must be to old school, I love the feel and smell , of a book or thick magazine. Its the feeling you own or have a part of history and it's story in your hands, very tactile I guess, not just using it for 52 weeks. This is History or Good story telling and having it makes me apart of it. Silly I know, but sad to watch, just proves that we no longer make stuff to last only to sell.

Ohhh man, I'm a long time fan of Shonen Jump and I remember my first issue was all the way back to Issue #5. I think I have almost all the other issues from Issue #5 onward to the most current one. It was back in middle school when I saw a guy in my class with Issue #5 and I got curious about it, later bought it, and fell into Jump Mania! Those times were very fond as I remember how Yu-Gi-Oh! was so immensely popular (and it still is today with the card game) that it would show up on the Jump cover consecutively for multiple issues along with those free promo cards every so often. Jump has introduced me to so many series that I enjoy such as Black Cat, Gintama, Tegami Bachi, and Psyren to name a few.

It's a bummer though. I really like the physical copies of Shonen Jump because it's tangible and I appreciate the fact that I can hold a real book to read. I kinda already miss how the Jump regularly had like 300-400 pages an issue featuring like 5-7 series but with the most current issues to date, it can barely scratch almost to 300 pages despite having more manga pages (for the popular ones like Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece) with reduced advertisements and such. I'm not too sure if I will continue with the digital copies or just buy the graphic novels of the series I do like to read.

One part of me is kinda glad that the physical copies are done as I don't think I have enough space in my room to continue collecting more Jump issues.

Thank you for all the memories, (physical) Shonen Jump. You will never be forgotten.

Wow, I still remember the first time I walked past a rack and Jump stopped me dead in my tracks. I'd been watching what anime I could get on VHS from a friend and here was this big thick magazine full of the art I was quickly becoming addicted to. I loved it and still do, I'll miss feeling the paper and tearing the wrapper but I'm always happy to see manga move forward and become even more accessible. I just hope the digital version will still have the shorts and random fillery stuff.

Personally, I'm very sad that they've removed the print version of Shonen Jump. Me, I've never been a fan of digital when it comes to manga. As a collector though, I suppose that is something that comes with the territory; wanting to have something physical instead of digital. The final print issue of Shonen Jump will be something that will remain on my shelf.
