Sentai Fireworks is going to re-release Fate/Stay Night on Blu-Ray but I'm not sure if they're redubbing it with the cast from Unlimited Blade Works or are keeping Geneon's dub. The prices aren't ridiculous, much much cheaper than anything released in Japan of the same thing. I would say Fate/Zero is reasonably priced in my opinion for everything it contains. Now, what gripes me a bit is Aniplex's Blu-Ray only release of Bakemonogatari from $150 which it essentially is the same thing as Nis America's DVD/Blu-Ray Combo release of AnoHana for $50. In that regard, I think Aniplex's DVD only release of Garden of Sinners for $150 is justified because it's so rare to find it outside of Japan. Even pirated. I agree about bakemonogatari. I would really like to own that but the price is unreasonable. Plus the fact that it took them around three years to release it. I can't wait for Nisemonogatari to be released [/sarcasm]. looked at your profile. apparently you are as psyched as me for eva 3.0. OMG ITS GONNA BE SO GOOD ^^ Hopefully Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo is released in a timely manner, I don't want them to rush it. I'm psyched for it, yes, but I read the script already and have seen parts of the movie. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not going to watch it, buy it, and re-watch it to death. |

![]() That's the only physical DVD set I own, but I'm 85% sure it's a fake. (I mean, the DVDs work and have what they're supposed to have on them, but the set itself is probably counterfeit. I don't think they ever released all five seasons like that.) |

You people have some nice coleections. I have a backlog of ordering. One reason to get DVD's is extras. Like commentary ,drawings and even glossaries of terms equipment etc.One example GAI-REI Zero where they actually shot real cool landscapes or historcial sites and used them in the animation.Another is the voice actor interviews I do like Dubs. Same thing with music cds you get artwork lyrics studio locations guest musicians as opposed to downloads.

If you don't like the answers, you should avoid asking the questions.

For those who have the collector's bug, DVDs (and I'm referring to legal ones in the U.S. where I live. The Japanese versions are very expensive!) are one of the more economical ways to own something from your favorite series. I collect figures too, but one of these can cost as much or more than a box set of the entire season of a show!
Incidentally, I'm guessing that Sailor Moon DVD depicted a few posts back is fake too! Simplified Chinese text (美少女战士) would seem to be a big clue (美少女戦士 in more typical Japanese kanji script). |

I still buy physical anime, yes.
I have some VHS linger around somewhere. I collect mostly DVD and Blu-Ray, though I tend to lean more towards DVDs only because of the subtitle issues Blu-Rays seem to have (no background for the wording which makes the words bleed "invisible" with certainly colors) |

I still collect and probably always will, I like physical owning anime instead of always streaming. I mainly collect blu rays now as I'm a junkie for HD and especially remastered HD because blu rays look so much better than what most streaming options provide you.

Yep, I believe you are correct. I too have a set with all five seasons and the movies, but I believe they never actually released Sailor Stars stateside. What can you do. Anyway, to stay on topic, I too enjoy buying anime DVDs. The same goes for books, music, and video games. I would much rather pay extra to own a physical copy of any form of media rather than buy it in a digital form. There's just something to be said about being able to touch it and see it. Sure, you can say you have a MP3 or anime collection on a hard drive, but after a point it simply comes down to filling up your hard drive so you can say you did it. All you're really looking at is pixels on a screen. I mean, if that's your thing, go for it, but it's so much more fun to discuss your physical collection rather than simply state the media you downloaded on your hard drive. For those you who have no physical anime dvds, try buying a few sometime - it sure is fun and addicting once you start! |

When I'm able to afford them, I definitely go for the physical DvD's. If for no other reason than to display them on my bookshelf.

I've bought my share of anime and just like the OP, I have plenty of out-of-print stuff. Former Tokyopop, Viz, Manga, CPM, Bandai, ADV, and Geneon shows pepper my collection. But I don't buy every single anime in existence. Just the shows I really like.

I buy physical material for anime that are more than 20 episodes as I find it more of a hassle to sit in my chair for long hours vs. being comfy on the couch :3
