funny you should ask I just went though my collection and counted 820 DVD's 97 where anime or american cartoons. 40 where computer animation and the rest everything from TV to classics and a lot of sci fi All the bang bang shoot 'em up belonged to my son. ??

I threw away almost all of the hard plastic cases from my son's dvds so I would have enough space to never have to do that to my anime!!! haha

Claymore was one of the animes I was grappling between Blu-ray and DVD!!! I watched it in English (no choice) on another streaming site that does mostly english (blah, it's really only good for a preview, can't stand dubs!!) and the husband and I enjoyed it so much, I definitely want to get it on blu-ray or dvd... probably blu-ray Even better would be a second season!!!

I watched Death Note recently, I enjoyed the series but the end kinda didn't do it for me... :/ I also saw Witchblade in English (again, only option available) and I would like to see it in Japanese, but much like Death Note, the ending was just "ehh" for me... I'm willing to forgive a crappy ending for an awesome show, (hence I'm more forgiving with Death Note than Witchblade) but I'm getting a little irritated over bad endings lately!!! >.<

I'm guessing you watched both of those at Netflix, since Funimation's own site has subs available for both.

OH GOOD, I wasn't sure if we were allowed to mention Netflix, some sites are very... finicky... when it comes to mentioning competitor's services... Yes, I watched them on Netflix, I could only stand that for so long though (2 months, tops) before I just upped the dvd's out a time to 3 and started having the whole seasons sent to me instead!!! ^_^ So much better that way!!!!

I don't watch on the computer... don't ask me why, but when it comes to watching shows on the computer, somehow the chair starts to become uncomfortable!!! That's also the reason I call it "Hulu Minus" because they don't tell when you sign up that if you want to watch the subtitled version you have to watch it on the computer!!!! But I kept it because I wanted to watch Fruits Basket subtitled, and I'm currently watching Mushishi subtitled on the Hulu Minus.

Nice collections!

Yes, I still collect myself - have all of DBZ, FMA and FMA Brotherhood, Suzumiya Haruhi and others...I'll have to take some pictures.

But I use Crunchyroll to preview before I buy and stay up to date.

There are some people who have some really great collections out there, I'm way impressed/awed.

I think if I get the money I will invest in FMA and FMA:B, the story goes all higgledy-piggledy towards the end of FMA, but they really killed Scar-san's face in FMA:B... so the only solution is to buy both!! ^_^ That, and if my son was drawn into an anime character, he'd be Al. ♥ I have Sacred Star of Milos saved in my Netflix queue so whenever it comes out I can finally check it out; I rather enjoyed the first movie, I think I watched it 4 or 5 times!

Now that I know there's an option that lies between just going and buying the unknown and going the illegal route, I'm quite happy to be here!!!!! ^_^

I am firmly against obtaining anime through any kind of illegal means. So much work is put into creating all this great material (way more than the music industry), anime deserves to be a multi-billion dollar industry.

My DVD player died on me, so I took that as an opportunity to go for a blu-ray player as its replacement. :3 I've been really happy with it, too, since it can play my large DVD collection as well as let me stream Netflix, allowing me to sample even more series. :D~

Yeah, the original Muyo series is kinda hard to find now-a-days, sadly. I think it really deserves a remastered re-release(in which I'd totally double dip and buy again. ). The first disk is still really cheap online, though. You can purchase it around $7, I think. It's just disk 3, and I think 4 that's really overpriced. >.< I'd love to have a Ryo-ohki keychain! A guy that was in my Karate class in college had one, too. So jealous. lol
Toonami was definitely my era. I first became obsessed with anime around that time, starting with Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon. I also watched that "Made in Japan" timeslot on Fox. There's a lot of shows I miss from my childhood that I wish I would have bought back when they weren't so rare. ;__; (I'm looking at you Sailor Moon)

I definitely want to get the last 3 discs of SM SuperS because I only have half of them and that just doesn't cut it!! At the time those were actively being released (monthly, bimonthly?!) for the first time on DVD, that's why I only have half a season! Ryo-ohki... yeah, that sounds right!!! ^_^ I had that keychain for a long time, I was heartbroken when it finally met its end (it was a rubber one) ;_:

DBZ and the battle that lasted for, I swear, like 6 months, for real... How the hell could they cut every 4th frame out of a show and STILL make one powerup for one battle last 4 months?!?! Sailor Moon, if you look carefully, I have a hand recorded tape at the top of the VHS photo from the Toonami days :3... the rest of those SM tapes were given to me (by the anime nerd Queen, amazing how you can be socially cooler than someone and still get snubbed by them, but I digress >.>) and they were the FIRST thing anime I ever REALLY saw in Japanese---as my 6 year old would say (in the /most/ declarative statement voice EVER) "I was shocked."

I don't necessarily remember the other time slot you mentioned... I was kinda like in high school at that point, so I didn't really have too much time to spend watching tv. Or it could be there was just something about Fox I didn't like, even then!! bwahahahahalol, sorry, I couldn't resist!! >.<

I have the first DVD of SuperS, that I happened to come across at my dollar store when I was in high school. I would have loved to have the whole series, but I didn't have much money back then to buy much. ^^;; (that's also why I have a bunch of random DVDs now. XDD )
I looked up Ryo-ohki on Amazon to see if they had the keychain... Is this the one you had? http://www.amazon.com/Tenchi-Muyo-Ryo-Ohki-Keychain-GE3220/dp/B004FO3SRO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1331674963&sr=8-6 It's pretty cheap. I may have to get me one for ol' times sake. =^__^=

Hahha, DBZ battles really did last forever. XD I wonder how I had so much patience when I was a kid since I was in middle school when I got into it. ^^; I was watching DBZ kai whenever I had the chance a few months ago and when they stopped the episodes around one of my favorite parts, I grabbed one of my VHS tapes that took place around that time, I was surprised just how long it took to power up and even start a fight. XD It was my first time touching the original series in years!
lol I recorded some of the Sailor Moon episodes from the Toonami days, too. XD Maybe I should revisit them. ^^;; Ah~Nostalgia. lol Just wish they would license rescue Sailor Moon and bring over Stars... Though I do know Funimation IS trying to get Sailor Moon. Hope they do eventually.

Hahha, I was in middle school and had too much time on my hands. XD Fox Kids used to air Monster Rancher, Digimon and even a little bit of Escaflowne. Those were some of the shows I was most into when I was younger, and I'd still like to own a physical copy of Monster Rancher and Digimon.

I should take some quick pics of my DVD collection and post them. I do need to update "My Geeky Stuff" album on facebook. ^^;

^ Good stuff man. I like the neatness and organization of your shelves!!! But I still hate dust!!! >.< My dresser has a wooden swing shut door set to the left of the cabinets, I think the part I love most is I never have to dust inside of it... But it does get very messy and abyss-like because I usually don't see inside of it!!! haha

See this is making me feel so much better-- I don't even know another person with an anime collection in real life!!

Large anime collection holders: What's the one go-to anime you will watch over and over again??

Gotta be Lodoss War #1 for me, NGE would easily be second, except it was pilfered many a moon ago.

well thank you yeah i do try to keep things in order for what I like. I have a rule however for series that I like if i watched them fan-subbed i try to support the legal versions if i really like the series. Now with legal streams that's no longer a big issue for me I can be more cautious about my purchases.

Sorry for the late reply to your question well lets see I do re-watch Azumanga Daioh, Higurashi, Eva/End of Eva and Flcl every year no matter what.

I owned a larger collection at one time but decided to pare it down due to space issues. However, I'm once again building up my collection again. The thing I like so much about dvd collections is that the artwork done on the boxes are so good most of the time and are original. I say this all the time but there's something to be said for having a physical copy of anime in your hands. Anyhow, here's my list(sorry , no picture)
8th MS Team ( Gundam)
Gundam Seed/Destiny
Full Metal Panic
Avatar: The Last Airbender
S.T.R.A.I.N
Naruto ( 1st series)
And then I have the Clone Wars of course that isn't anime though.
I have a few others that I'm working on and I would really like to get Eureka Seven too.

I used to be able to brag about my 200+ DVD collection, but not any more... Reason is I already added a crapload more DVDs to that collection! Physical DVDs and blu-rays all the way for me!

If I want an anime series and I know I'll watch it more than once then I will go out and buy a physical copy of it in some form. I don't like to download everything, especially since it's not only illegal in most cases but risky as well. For legal download I don't like paying $2 or something for a file of an episode. :/ Plus with physical copies I can try to get something on sale or buy it used.

Am I just old fashioned that I don't like downloading stuff off the internet?

I think there's still something to be said for having a physical copy of a DVD, Blu-ray, or VHS in my hot little hand over other methods of viewing...

DVDs and Blu-rays [nearly] always come with the original language version with subtitles which is one of the number one draws for me... The higher quality and availability to just pop them in any player in my house and watch them instead of being tied to a computer is also important for me, not to mention when you get a box set that's well-made and/or has extra goodies included inside!!

I think streaming sites like Crunchyroll are brilliant and amazing in that they allow you to legally watch something /before/ you buy it... Back in my day (pass ol' Momma her slippers and her pipe, you're getting dragged back into the 19s), most of the time you just had to go out on a limb and buy something on VHS or DVD to find out if it was worth buying... which got really, really expensive with the advent of DVDs, $35 dollars a disc... A DVD box set would run you around $200. O___O

Before that, all we had were the re-re-re-re-recorded passed on tapes that someone got from a friend who got from a cousin who got from a guy at a comic book shop somewhere once in a state that they're not even sure is in the Union, which I still have and I'd bet dollars to donuts (I like chocolate glazed) they still work!

I'm wondering because I just started to pull out all of anime to see what I have... and it's a wee bit more than I remembered it being...
VHS

I had more but a jerk took about half of my collection (still mad over my NGE box set, by far the biggest loss!!!) about 8 years back. A lot of these are so old and I haven't seen them in so long I don't even remember what they are about. (Re-watch time!!!)

So are there any others out there who still enjoy and collect animes?? Particularly anyone with an older collection that possibly even includes this this old lady has heard of??
buy?

Even more importantly, tell me something new I might enjoy.

oh god please stop youor gonna give me a heart attack
