VHS long gone now as transferred what I still had to DVD-Rs. Still have some laser discs (CIty Hunter) though.
DVDs still the builk of what buy but Blu-ray (Unless t's a title where can't watch with the subtitles off (always on)) is becoming part of the collection as well (especially if the price between the BLu-ray and DVD set isn't too high). Single volumes releases have pretty much stopped for North American releases. Sets take up less space but at same time get nothing besides the discs in the case it seems these days. No reversible covers, no episode list or guides, etc. Japanese Blu-ray is great since don't need a region coded player (as do with the DVDs). CR great so can see series ahead of having to need to buy them and can try out many more series that may never have thought to. |

But i was wondering, does anyone know where to find cheap and legitimate copies of Eureka 7, i don't want bootlegs and the ones on Amazon are fucking expensive. The individual volumes of Eureka Seven go for around $6-$8 new on Amazon, as far as I saw. The ones I saw were Vol 3, Vol 4, Vol 6, Vol 7, Vol 8, Vol 9, Vol 10, and Vol 12. I couldn't find Vol 11 but Vol 1, 2, 5, and 13 are all in the $15-$90 range new. Used all of them are in the $1-$3 range, from the top offers. That took like two minutes of searching. I may actually get them myself now that I think about it. |

I buy a lot of full sets as long as they are the complete series I may have to wait a while but when an anniversary rolls around I get beautiful art boxes key chains posters and other things lol, I also love buying movie collections as well I love having something that physically proves how much I love to support and own something I love.

Oh and Little Busters BD 1 arrived so I can finally watch episodes 1-3! Kokoro Connect Kizu Random 2, Sukitte 2, Tonari 3, BTOOOM 3 all BD are on the way, should be here this week, soon if all goes well. I also have a rather large collection of HK martial arts films. the infernal affairs set i have was not released in states. i probably should have mentioned that part of film collection. yes i am one that finds films from all countries enjoyable. No dubs just subs. i apologize if this comes off angry or mean. i just woke up and have not had enough coffee. |

I used to feel I had to buy everything I liked... now I have less money for it, and also since there's streaming and stuff... I only buy the things I'm going to rewatch a lot.
So I guess it does actually make sense then, that I have 3 copies of my favorite series (First release - DVD only, then a BD/DVD combo pack.) I guess the thing is, streaming is nice, but like... let's say you watch an anime now and you really like it, then in 5 years you want to go back and watch it again. There's no guarantee it'll still be streaming anywhere. Even if it got licensed and dubbed and whatever... Just look at most of Bandai's catalog. Also, things from Geneon. Even some of the stuff Funimation picked up to complete (like Story of Saiunkoku), are now out of print. It makes me sad... after watching Sword Art Online, I wanted to go back and revisit .hack//SIGN, but I don't know if I have the DVDs of it and, well... |

I buy Anime DVDs and Manga! I used to think it was a waste of money but then i bought my Evangelion Platinum collection and was just like "oh ya, i need more." I just started collecting about a 2 months ago but i hope that in 5 years or so i'll have a sexy collection.

I'm aiming on getting a full complete set of the Studio Ghibli films because they have the numbering on the side of the DVD box so I'd have to get them all D:, got a few atm, but need MORE, they're not too expensive either, only like £6 or something.

I do, but it's really only my favorite series. If I can watch it on netflix, here, or youtube then meh don't need it.

The only real reason I still get anime on DVD/Blu-Ray is because I rip them into .mp4 files so I can play them via DLNA from our Ubuntu Linux media server (with 28TB of storage) on our 55" LED TV with our PS3, and our computers in our bedrooms.

Yes. I do.
My collection is nowhere near as extensive as the ones I've seen on here, because I only recently started buying things in earnest, but it'll grow over time. Right now I have Dragonball, NGE, Eva Rebuilds 1 and 2, Redline, and Astro Boy. Streaming is fine, but if I can help it, I really like to feel that I physically possess a copy of what I'm watching, be it on DVD or in a torrented file. So if I like a show, and want to support the companies involved, I'll put the series on my shopping list. DVDs are pretty clunky compared to files though, so I hope studios can someday find a profitable way to make files themselves available for download. That way your experience wouldn't depend on a fast connection (like streaming), and you could access the anime right from your hard drive as much as you want. On a side note, does anybody own a copy of End of Evangelion, or Gurren Lagann? I searched for both on Amazon recently. I bought EoE, even though it was out of print and the price was way up, but returned it because the disc kept freezing up my computer. And I got scared away from Gurren Lagann because of all the complaints of skipping and freezing on the discs. Is this your experience? Does the video have decent quality? Aspect ratios all preserved? No black bars on screens that match the videos' dimensions? Etc? http://www.amazon.com/Gurren-Lagann-Complete-Collection-Legends/product-reviews/B003P3PQNA/ref=cm_cr_dp_see_all_btm?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending |
