Oh, I still buy DVDs (and I've started getting Blu-Rays for certain shows too). "Right Stuf.com knows my credit limit!" ^^;; In other words, most of my discretionary money goes toward fueling my habit. I don't even wanna think about how much money I've spent on my collection. And it's still growing. I much prefer having a physical copy over a digital copy any day.

The majority of anime that I have seen I also own on Blu-ray or DVD. Most of the time I won't even watch the anime before purchasing it, I look at the voice actors most of the time to see if my favorites are there. I do not regret buying a single one and if its available in blu-ray then I definitely spend the extra to get that. Plus, many of the blu-ray titles come with a dvd combo for no extra charge which is really cool. A few buddies of mine like anime as well, they do not have computers -- so I lend them some dvds. I'll have to take a picture of my collection-so-far sometime.

I have the first DVD of SuperS, that I happened to come across at my dollar store when I was in high school. I would have loved to have the whole series, but I didn't have much money back then to buy much. ^^;; (that's also why I have a bunch of random DVDs now. XDD )
I looked up Ryo-ohki on Amazon to see if they had the keychain... Is this the one you had? http://www.amazon.com/Tenchi-Muyo-Ryo-Ohki-Keychain-GE3220/dp/B004FO3SRO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1331674963&sr=8-6 It's pretty cheap. I may have to get me one for ol' times sake. =^__^=

Hahha, DBZ battles really did last forever. XD I wonder how I had so much patience when I was a kid since I was in middle school when I got into it. ^^; I was watching DBZ kai whenever I had the chance a few months ago and when they stopped the episodes around one of my favorite parts, I grabbed one of my VHS tapes that took place around that time, I was surprised just how long it took to power up and even start a fight. XD It was my first time touching the original series in years!
lol I recorded some of the Sailor Moon episodes from the Toonami days, too. XD Maybe I should revisit them. ^^;; Ah~Nostalgia. lol Just wish they would license rescue Sailor Moon and bring over Stars... Though I do know Funimation IS trying to get Sailor Moon. Hope they do eventually.

Hahha, I was in middle school and had too much time on my hands. XD Fox Kids used to air Monster Rancher, Digimon and even a little bit of Escaflowne. Those were some of the shows I was most into when I was younger, and I'd still like to own a physical copy of Monster Rancher and Digimon.

I should take some quick pics of my DVD collection and post them. I do need to update "My Geeky Stuff" album on facebook. ^^;

Dollar store?!?! WOW what a find!!! And OMGholyblastfromthepast, Batman!!! That //IS// my old keychain!!!!! omg!!!! I had that keychain... ... ... ... like 12 years ago??? When is a keychain worth $8??? When it makes you feel like you're 18 again OMG!!! O__O I am both shocked AND awed!! Thank you so much, this TOTALLY makes my day!!! ^_^

I, too, checked out DBZ Kai for a quick minute!!! I was impressed at how fast it moved--that was pretty cool!!!!! I think I saw the first episode of Stars??? I think it's one of the passed on ancient VHSs...

I love seeing pictures of other people's collections!!! I don't know a SINGLE other person in RL with an anime collection, so this makes me totally feel so much less alone!!!!! ^_^ I mean I might know a person or two with a Miyazaki, and while I love his films having only Princess Mononoke and Ponyo doesn't exactly count as having an "anime collection", lol!

well thank you yeah i do try to keep things in order for what I like. I have a rule however for series that I like if i watched them fan-subbed i try to support the legal versions if i really like the series. Now with legal streams that's no longer a big issue for me I can be more cautious about my purchases.

Sorry for the late reply to your question well lets see I do re-watch Azumanga Daioh, Higurashi, Eva/End of Eva and Flcl every year no matter what.

I haven't had to resort to looking for a fan sub in a while now; there's just so much available legally to stream, I haven't had to hunt down anything in almost a year now! (which is awesome!!!) I can only purchase rarely, so I always get something I know is going to have huge re-watch value for me!!

I have to rebuy Eva, I seriously can't live without it... >.< I had all the discs sent to me via Netflix because I couldn't wait til I purchased another copy to watch it again, and I had to show the husband for the first time!!!!!!!

They actually hired some kid fresh out of high school at husband's job (metal construction company) and the kid applied for the job because "he was on the robotics team in high school" so my husband says to him "Alright naw boy, I wantcha to get on buildin me one of them there Evangelions... you know what I'm talkin about, don'tcha boy?!?" and the kid got this kinda funny look on his face and was like "Actually... yes I do..." "Alright, good boy, get started on that!!" Bwahahahahahaha sorry, makes me laugh every time I think about it--- leave it to a nerd from the robotics team to come through on the Evangelion reference!!!!!!

I haven't seen any of the other animes you mentioned, but I will add them to my list of things to watch if they're so good it requires a yearly ritual!!!

I owned a larger collection at one time but decided to pare it down due to space issues. However, I'm once again building up my collection again. The thing I like so much about dvd collections is that the artwork done on the boxes are so good most of the time and are original. I say this all the time but there's something to be said for having a physical copy of anime in your hands. Anyhow, here's my list(sorry , no picture)
8th MS Team ( Gundam)
Gundam Seed/Destiny
Full Metal Panic
Avatar: The Last Airbender
S.T.R.A.I.N
Naruto ( 1st series)
And then I have the Clone Wars of course that isn't anime though.
I have a few others that I'm working on and I would really like to get Eureka Seven too.

Are you kidding me?? At nearly $40 a season, Clone Wars is ABSOLUTELY worth including on that list, in my opinion!!! We'd totally have them if 1. They weren't quite so expensive (George Lucas, I'm lookin at you here) and 2. My son wasn't such a big chicken "^_^ heh heh... The first season was okay-ish for him (he's 6)-- we have the movie and he LOVES it (he's a sucker for babies)... but somewhere around the second season it started to take a considerably darker turn (I know where it culminates so I can't see it getting happier towards the end haha!!!) and it was just too scary for him... :/ He's afraid of Winnie The Pooh (albeit only Franken-Pooh, but still!)... He's more like a Hamtaro style kid hahaha!!!

I have not seen these anime combo packs I've seen people mention!!! :O But I would like to!!! Haha! I always buy all our disney movies in combo pack now; Mommy does not want to watch Cars 2 in her living room every day (only blu-ray player) so now be a good little boy and take the Cars 2 DVD to bedroom, sweetie... ♥

I love seeing the pics of people's collections!!! ^_^ It's awesome to see how much the collections vary from person to person!!!

^ I /would/ buy the blu-ray over DVD if anything I was buying was actually available on blu-ray The only thing I've seen on Blu-ray that's must-have for me is Eva 1.0 & 2.0... Oh yeah, and Claymore, but that's not on my "can't live without" list... I just really enjoyed it and would love to watch it Japanese.

I assume you mean the NGE box set--technically, I would be buying it for a SECOND time, the first one got stolen. :/

I evaluate my purchases very carefully before I make them, I rarely ever have second thoughts And why /wouldn't/ I want to actually buy them? If I enjoy something so much I would watch it again and again, why don't I want the person responsible for creating it to get paid?

v I'm totally with what this person said!!! v v v

People like me (and many others, I'm sure they're around here somewhere!) who paid a small fortune to have what little we could get 10, 12, 15 years ago is why today we are able to /legally/ watch, see, buy and enjoy as much anime as we are able to now...

I like having tangible copies in my hand so I enjoy buying DVDs and Blu-ray disc when I can and have the money to. I pay the company money, I get the product, they keep producing more things that i like. My Japanese could use some retouching and they were so kind to translate it for me and even dubbed it in a language I could understand.

Man, what am I the only person without a blu-ray anime?!! >.< Okay, well I see where my priorities must lie in my next purchase!!!

I'm pretty new to this. Maybe two years ago now, It started with one, then another... Now in my mini-collection, there's close to 30 series on DVD or BR, about as many PVC figures, plus some art books or guidebook from Japan.... And more stuff coming through the pre-order pipeline....

Like a number of others have already said, for me, it seems to boil down to the tangibility of owning a physical object (combined with relative availability and affordability, particularly as one grows up, gets established, and acquires more disposable income).

I recall a somewhat related thread here on CR about physical bound paper books. When I first saw that thread, I was expecting that the CR audience, which skews quite young (compared to me), might be quite gung ho on embracing virtual media and casting aside dusty paper books. However, the reality seemed to be very much the opposite. The oft-predicted death of physical media may indeed come one day, but it doesn't look like it'll be anytime really soon!

To answer the original thread topic, I have a large collection of anime DVDs. I never watch licensed anime illegally...I always buy or find the legal, official streams. It took me a LONG time to be able to do this, but if I find an unlicensed series, I watch it through fansubs and then make sure to buy it when it gets licensed.
