Oh, I still buy DVDs (and I've started getting Blu-Rays for certain shows too). "Right Stuf.com knows my credit limit!" ^^;; In other words, most of my discretionary money goes toward fueling my habit. I don't even wanna think about how much money I've spent on my collection. And it's still growing. I much prefer having a physical copy over a digital copy any day.

HAHA, I am SO with you on that!!!!!!!!!! I dare NOT do the math estimations of how much I spent!!!!

The majority of anime that I have seen I also own on Blu-ray or DVD. Most of the time I won't even watch the anime before purchasing it, I look at the voice actors most of the time to see if my favorites are there. I do not regret buying a single one and if its available in blu-ray then I definitely spend the extra to get that. Plus, many of the blu-ray titles come with a dvd combo for no extra charge which is really cool. A few buddies of mine like anime as well, they do not have computers -- so I lend them some dvds. I'll have to take a picture of my collection-so-far sometime.

^ That's how we used to have to do it back in the day!!!!!!!! (At least I did!) You look for the English voice actors or the Japanese voice actors you like??

I have not seen these anime combo packs I've seen people mention!!! :O But I would like to!!! Haha! I always buy all our disney movies in combo pack now; Mommy does not want to watch Cars 2 in her living room every day (only blu-ray player) so now be a good little boy and take the Cars 2 DVD to bedroom, sweetie... ♥

I love seeing the pics of people's collections!!! ^_^ It's awesome to see how much the collections vary from person to person!!!

Yeah I have a handful of favorite english actors. Japanese voice actors, not so much, well except maybe guy voice actors. I can name a few blu-ray + dvd combo packs that sell at the same price as blu-ray only. I will note that some of these were a limited time offer.

Baka and test
Spice and wolf 2
Sekirei 2
The disappearance of haruhi suzumiya
B gata H kei: yamadas first time
Heaven's lost property
...and those are just the ones I can name off the top of my head. If you go to amazon and search anime then you should see some of those packs. I'll get a picture tomorrow if I can of the shelf.

I don't and most likely won't in the future. I want to be able to back up my anime instead of relying on the physical durability of a DVD or BD
I buy most of my anime on iTunes. The only downside to buying anime on iTunes is the lack of the original audio(japanese) with english subtitles version of the the series. I get most of them in HD 720p and/or 1080p.

My entire anime collection at the moment in my Living Room/Anime Viewing room.
Also some of the Wall Scrolls I have. I do have more Wall Scrolls throughout the house.
You can also see some of my Star Wars Lego collections in these photos.

Wow, that's a big, awesomely anime room!!!! That's an awesome anime collection, the only part that's sad is I can't read the titles very well!!! "^_^

Star Wars Legos, winning. My son has a lot of them--did you see the new small series 1 and 2 sets that are round shaped and come with like a round hook piece to hang it from!? It's like a tiny death star (he loves it!) with a loopy piece you put at the top--clearly they were thinking people were going to be hanging them!!

And the non-lego Star Wars ships... they're everywhere >.> I'm always cleaning up spare wings and blasters and Jedi.

I'm gonna have to see about getting a photo of my wall scroll... I still think it's probably THE single coolest wall scroll EVER... (I could be biased, mind you!!)

I'm pretty new to this. Maybe two years ago now, It started with one, then another... Now in my mini-collection, there's close to 30 series on DVD or BR, about as many PVC figures, plus some art books or guidebook from Japan.... And more stuff coming through the pre-order pipeline....

Like a number of others have already said, for me, it seems to boil down to the tangibility of owning a physical object (combined with relative availability and affordability, particularly as one grows up, gets established, and acquires more disposable income).

I recall a somewhat related thread here on CR about physical bound paper books. When I first saw that thread, I was expecting that the CR audience, which skews quite young (compared to me), might be quite gung ho on embracing virtual media and casting aside dusty paper books. However, the reality seemed to be very much the opposite. The oft-predicted death of physical media may indeed come one day, but it doesn't look like it'll be anytime really soon!

I can't do figurines... >.> Screw dusting. I can barely get the dishes washed and the laundry folded, nvm dusting tiny figurines!!!! haha As for disposable income, I (we) actually had way more when we were younger (like 18-22, not like "the parents are paying so it's cheaper", lol!!) because our economy was BANGIN back in the late 1990s, 2000s. Now we have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country... >.> Although, having just checked, it would appear you live in one of the few places with higher unemployment rates than us!! O_O Okay, well, you're actually in THE highest... but I'm gonna say that from a quick peek at your profile, being a doctor probably comes with a lot more job security than most fields... Doesn't matter how bad the economy is, people still get sick!! That's why I'm leaning towards accounting, myself... Doesn't matter if the economy's bad, someone's still gotta balance the books! :)

I /feel/ quite a bit older than the general CR populace myself!!! hahaha I thought some photos of what I have/like might bring out a few of the... classic?... uh... wiser? ... uh.... aww, hell, I'm lookin for the old people!! >.< I don't /dislike/ young people... Cool people are cool people whether they're 17 or 71... and I can talk to most anyone... but I'd really like to see someone who's been collecting /steady/ since back when I started... O_O Some of these 2 - 6 year old collections I've seen are STUNNING, so the thought of someone with a 10+ years of collecting is just... just... *has to shake head back to reality* .... I can't even begin to think of it!!!!

As for physical media dying, newspapers haven't disappeared yet, and they will probably die long before books. As far as book printing is concerned nowadays, it's not really the /physical/ part of the book that's important, it's the content, the binding is cheaply produced paper and glue... I guess the same could be said for a DVD... but I dunno, I just think books are more delicate than discs or even tapes for that matter!

Unlike Ed from FMA; I knew approximately 45 seconds in the first episode of FMA it was Toushiro from Bleach... But what messed me up, for the win? Gendo Ikari is Zaracki Kenpachi O__O Who knew?!?! As Sloth (Sloss <--love it) in FMA, he sounds like Kenpachi... Didn't hear it in Gendo's voice though!!

As far as the durability of physical media, /all/ of my VHS tapes still work perfectly so I'm not too worried about the longevity of discs :)
So iTunes lacks in original language track animes; good to know! :)

It's not just you - I buy tons of DVDs. Part of the reason why is because I don't trust companies. At all. I also don't trust files to not go corrupt or get deleted, with the backup I thought I had nowhere to be found. My DVDs are here and, unless my apartment gets broken into or goes down in flames, will still be here years from now. I don't really care what the case or box art looks like. All I care about is that I have the series. My biggest concern is that one day the technology to play DVDs will no longer be available, but Bluray players can usually still play them, so I have no reason to cry yet. I haven't yet started buying Bluray, because I still only have a DVD player.

I laugh when I see people write comments like "Why buy [insert show name here] when you can watch it on Crunchyroll?" Simple. There is no guarantee that any show will have a permanent home on Crunchyroll. As an example, I was just going to watch Steins;Gate, which, according to my queue, should have still been up, and all that was left was a preview.

Old fashioned? Naw, not even I absolutely love buying the dvd's, since they're much easier to put in a DVD player than it is to find it online (especially if it's not on crunchyroll).

That, and even though I can read my manga on my iphone or ipad, I still love to get the physical copy if it regardless if i've already read it or not. Idk, I just love the feel and look of having a whole bookcase full of manga and anime.

If you are using iTunes, you can simply re-download, for free, your anime from there. I don't think a file can get corrupt from computer reading that file.

When a DVD and BD brokes(shatters, break in half, etc) that's it, if you want to get another copy of that anime you would have to re-purchase that anime

I don't have an iphone or an ipad (android ftw!), but that's not to say that if I had $700 lying around, I wouldn't get an ipad, because I TOTALLY would... Iphone... eh... not so much....

I didn't really get into the manga, the sticker shock for a book was always more than I could handle!! ^_^ And I don't want a kindle if I can't actually afford to /buy/ the ebooks...

But you should totally add a photo! ^_^ I love this, seeing what other people have, it kinda just shows what everyone else is like... I think the most amazing part is my own house is probably the messiest out of every photo I've seen!!! hahahaha I'm not gonna lie, I thought there was gonna be some photos that looked like the Japanese guy with the double Snuggie and bag on his face's house!!!! Bwahahahahahaha, my husband can't get enough of that video... (note, my house does NOT look half as bad as Bag-Face's does!)

I'm just not a super big fan of iTunes in general, I guess. I have an Ipod 2nd gen but the screen is like a fingernail for me, lol... And the one time I upgraded iTunes it erased every single piece of MY music on the entire computer--left my husband's crappy horrible stuff alone, disappeared mine!!!! *eye twitches*

That is good to know you can just re-download them though, I will keep that in mind!! ^_^

no point in selling it now, what i would get around 2 dollars used on amazon or .0000002 cents from game-stop.

Now on topic i have 3 anime sets that could easily make me 1000 dollars pre-owned because they are out of print. Higurashi complete box set, Karin Complete set and Familiar of Zero. Each one is selling over 200 dollars pre-owned on amazon and since genon USA is out of business and funimatino no longer produces these titles...being a collector of dvd's is great. Now on to something else that I own anime/game sound tracks

I can see why you dislike some english actors. Actually my two favorites male voices are greg ayers and David matranga. David fits a lot of roles perfectly, maybe you should look him up. As for female voice actors, well I do have favorites. There's one or two actresses that make the character sound a bit squeeky but I've seen enough of their work to know they can drastically change how they sound (Hilary haag & Monica rial). In my opinion the Japanese female voices seem to fit better and the english male voices seem to fit better as well.

I have the first DVD of SuperS, that I happened to come across at my dollar store when I was in high school. I would have loved to have the whole series, but I didn't have much money back then to buy much. ^^;; (that's also why I have a bunch of random DVDs now. XDD )
I looked up Ryo-ohki on Amazon to see if they had the keychain... Is this the one you had? http://www.amazon.com/Tenchi-Muyo-Ryo-Ohki-Keychain-GE3220/dp/B004FO3SRO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1331674963&sr=8-6 It's pretty cheap. I may have to get me one for ol' times sake. =^__^=

Hahha, DBZ battles really did last forever. XD I wonder how I had so much patience when I was a kid since I was in middle school when I got into it. ^^; I was watching DBZ kai whenever I had the chance a few months ago and when they stopped the episodes around one of my favorite parts, I grabbed one of my VHS tapes that took place around that time, I was surprised just how long it took to power up and even start a fight. XD It was my first time touching the original series in years!
lol I recorded some of the Sailor Moon episodes from the Toonami days, too. XD Maybe I should revisit them. ^^;; Ah~Nostalgia. lol Just wish they would license rescue Sailor Moon and bring over Stars... Though I do know Funimation IS trying to get Sailor Moon. Hope they do eventually.

Hahha, I was in middle school and had too much time on my hands. XD Fox Kids used to air Monster Rancher, Digimon and even a little bit of Escaflowne. Those were some of the shows I was most into when I was younger, and I'd still like to own a physical copy of Monster Rancher and Digimon.

I should take some quick pics of my DVD collection and post them. I do need to update "My Geeky Stuff" album on facebook. ^^;

Dollar store?!?! WOW what a find!!! And OMGholyblastfromthepast, Batman!!! That //IS// my old keychain!!!!! omg!!!! I had that keychain... ... ... ... like 12 years ago??? When is a keychain worth $8??? When it makes you feel like you're 18 again OMG!!! O__O I am both shocked AND awed!! Thank you so much, this TOTALLY makes my day!!! ^_^

I, too, checked out DBZ Kai for a quick minute!!! I was impressed at how fast it moved--that was pretty cool!!!!! I think I saw the first episode of Stars??? I think it's one of the passed on ancient VHSs...

I love seeing pictures of other people's collections!!! I don't know a SINGLE other person in RL with an anime collection, so this makes me totally feel so much less alone!!!!! ^_^ I mean I might know a person or two with a Miyazaki, and while I love his films having only Princess Mononoke and Ponyo doesn't exactly count as having an "anime collection", lol!

Yeah, they had a few good disk back when I was in High school. I even started my Tenchi collection because of the Dollar Store. XD
Hahah, you're welcome? XD I definitely have to add it to my cart next time I make an amazon purchase. :3

Stars was never released in the US. The reason they didn't was that it was too mature to tame down for the kiddies. ^^;; Which is sad... TT__TT

Ah, really? Guess I was always lucky because a good bit of my friends through high school and college collected anime and manga. We lended and borrowed things from one another quite a bit... Though in college, one of my suite mates was an avid collector. One weekend when we were alone, she kept knocking on my door, asking me to watch anime with her. XDD
After a while, it was pretty funny:
Suite mate: *Knocks*
Me: *Opens door*
Suite mate: I take it you know what I'm here for?
Me: ...Yes...
Suite mate: Do you accept?
Me: Yes.

------------
Here's the pics from my collection. Sorry that they're not very good pictures... I literally have almost no lighting in my room, so I had to use the flash on my camera.

I don't really watch too much in English "^_^ so even though I've actually seen a lot of the animes they voice, I wouldn't recognize the American voices LOL that your girl Monica is Pen-Pen in Eva 2.0 though!!! That's just plain cool.

I know a lot of people like the dubs, and I like them because it exposes more people who would never watch something subtitled to anime, but I wouldn't want to watch a dub of a Kurosawa film no sooner than I'd want a Japanese person to watch a dub of Gone With The Wind... It's just not the same...

I'm a huge fan of classic films and I will NOT watch Pan and Scan versions of them either... I care about the people on the sides of the screen! >.<
