I think however long it takes to get over the person (like actually get over and not just say you are) and to find a new one. That being said, getting in a new relationship one week after a one year relationship just seems WAY too quick for me. I mean, one years worth of memories to think over AND find someone you like? I just don't see it.

Hold off until as much as you can. There will be a person along the way no matter how hard you are holding off, you end up introducing yourself to them because you're crazy for them.

After you break up with someone how long do you normally wait to start dating again?

I am kinda asking this b/c my cousin was dating his now ex gf for 1 year and about 1 week ago they broke up and he is now dating again with a new gf after he just broke up with his ex gf a week ago

So how long would you wait before getting a new bf/gf?

This last time, probably not long enough.

I don't feel that starting a bf/gf relationship is healthy I feel that its better to pursue friends, and then let what happens, happen. People should be friends before being boyfriends/girlfriends, friendship draws people into intimacy through what you already share and know with your friend. A stranger called boyfriend/girlfriend is a dangerous person, who we too often give too much authority to hurt us, or to do with us what they will. Relationships like this are like seeing a pretty mushroom on the side of the road and eating it. Eating the mushroom is a gamble, worst results ending in death and best in a tasty meal, with any possibility in between as well.

My suggestion, focus on friendship and let further intimacy develop from your male/female friends. These relationships, if they don't go too quickly, will be more than likely be more a benefit than a detriment. Even if such a relationship doesn't work out, often people who were friends, who respected each other during their bf/gf relationship, and who didn't commit physically, are able to remain happy and closer friends.

It's been close to 2 years since my last relationship, and I have yet to find a new partner. I guess it's individual.

I learned the easy way it's best to just wait for a decent girl to come along,at some point. Anyone can enter into and out of relationships practically at will, if they're persistent.

But why would you want to?

Relationships don't have a starting and ending period. They are timeless so we will never know.

It would take me years to begin a new relationship. I'm not the type of guy that would move on so quickly.
