heh, I had them engrave iPad 3 on the back of mine. Not sure about the superstition thing. I thought it was a little odd that they didn't call it iPad 3. I call mine iPad 3 anyway.

it's the 3rd generation but i wonder why they didn't say ipad 3....isn't 3rd gen saying it's ipad 3?

oh if i had the cash i'd buy it...I like apple

They intentionally didn't call the 3rd generation of Macintosh the "Mac 3" explicitly because of the Apple 3's failure. I have no idea if the current management is continuing the tradition or not, but it is funny that they aren't printing '3' on it, or using that number on their ads.

Not enough reason to spend the bucks. Lots of other options coming out over the course of the year (maybe better, maybe not). I'll let the next round of android tablets, ultrabooks and Win8 tablets/ultrabooks come out and then make a decision about upgrading. My current slew of devices is more than enough.

As a side note, I am a huge tech geek and am easy to convince when it comes to buying new tech I don't really need. I wanted the new ipad to be more revolutionary and it turned out more evolutionary. I am sure there are PLENTY of folks it will be perfect for. Just not enough to get me onboard. Maybe the next generation.

I think another reason for the naming could be the "S" dilemma with the iPhones. The HD branding would have been stupid, I think we could all agree on that. Perhaps Apple didn't want a backlash by having S models all the time (frankly I love it, it just means its more powerful).

I'm not buying a iPad 3 because mostly I have no money, but even if I did, I would not buy it, cuz basically it's the same crap, and everytime they come out they are overpriced as hell, Apple has become such a money-eating company, they know there is people who will buy their overpriced products everytime they release them, I guess that is why they release products so frequently :S but I guess I will get the iPad 5 when it comes out...

heh I think the majority of CrunchyRoll viewers are not Apple fans. I don't think this thread is going to motivate Crunchy to make their iPad app HD capable any time soon =(.

I am wondering why people stand for hours to get a single product like the iPad. It isn´t even a limited product, and if you wait just a little bit, you will easily get one at your local stores.

Read an article that one did it because it makes other people envy him for being one of the 1st to get the product. In my eyes it makes him kinda sad to me.

Well at least I understand the ones that wait in line to get some easy money by selling the iPad overpriced in other countries. Although I can´t understand the buyers of those iPads :p

Well maybe if it didn´t always rain and was cold here, and waiting in line was actually fun, I might understand. Although I am pretty certain there won´t be any lines, or at least any problem in getting and iPad here when it releases here next week. Only product from Apple that I actually know people have stood in line for, was with iPhones.

Nope. I have a laptop and a PC and a smartphone. Why should I waste money on an overpriced device that'll be outdated in 6-8 months, when Apple announces the iPad 4?

I'm not getting defensive, but it's hard to be mad about a new iPad release every year (the first one was in June, the following have been in march) whenever there's a new android tablet practically every single month. I'm currently in college, so portability is one of my biggest concerns. I quit carrying a laptop around once I got the iPad, and I don't miss the laptop at all. The price, I think is a bit exspensive, but it truly is a premium product. It feels like nothing else out there. The biggest change on the new iPad is the retina display by far. When held at a normal distance, or even up lose, the human eye cannot detect the pixels, and there's math to prove it.

Also I'm a game designer, and I'm studying it in college, and my ultimate goal is to become a legitimate iOS developer, so it's more of a tool rather than a product for fun for me. It's also confirmed that it's the most powerful mobile device on the market, so there's something for tablet users who want the performance.

To answer the concerns about its naming, it's because Apple wants to get rid of e numbers, such as what they've done with the MacBooks. They're simple MacBook pro and MacBook air, as well with the iPod touch. Eventually, all Apple products will just be the name of the device itself, no numbers. It's for a more "universal" experience.

Now, don't get me wrong, I completely respect your guys' opinions. I don't want to sound l
Ike I'm shoving my views on products down your throat, but I have to admit I'm super stocked about this thing. ^_^. (also, Crunchyroll looks incredible on the retina display)

Im going to correct you on the "most powerful mobile device on the market." I mean who "confirmed" it? Apple? Hardly the right judge to say who has the most powerful mobile device. My answer for power mobile? It's called a PC tablet/slate: Samsung Series 7.

i5 processor (2nd generation with sandy bridge)
128 GB of SOLD STATE DRIVE. (fucking a 128!)
4 GB OF RAM
Shared graphics card, 3,000 series.
USB ports
HDMI ports
Ether net cable hook up

Satistically, it blows the "new ipad" out of the water. AXD dual core processors? 2 gb of ram? I believe a "lol" is in order.

And Im just talking hardware, not software capabilities.

It runs Windows 7, the FULL Windows 7. Not a watered down version. It runs an entire operating system. It has the abilities to run Windows 8, in fact it was designed with Windows 8 in mind. Because its running on a true, full, operating system you can run programs like Office. Do an excel spread sheet, make a power point presentation. Hell, Ive seen people load PC games on the damn thing. (WoW is really hard to play on a touch screen -_-)

Applications? Angry Birds? Sure, all done on Intel's website: appup.com

Click link above if you dont believe me. Yeah, its bit of price shock, but thats what you pay for for the "most powerful mobile device on the market."

If you want to get actual work done, you grab one of these. What I'll give to Apple, is their application market. Thats the only reason why I have their product, because I enjoy the living hell out of their app store.

I would click on the link, but it's not working lol. Also, I believe that that "tablet" you mention should be out of the equation. I'm not much for PC-style tablets, because of their rather cluncky "port" of an operating system. The iPad is easy to use, tons of features, and in fact, there is a benchmark to prove it.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/251947/new_ipad_vs_android_tablets_is_it_game_over.html

Also, allow me to elaborate a bit more on the "mobile device" I was mentioning. By "mobile", when they say that, they mean running a mobile operating system - such as Android and iOS.
