Just finished this today and thought was decent so I decided to post this. This anime imo is heartwarming, tragic, emotional, and explores what us humans can do to help each other during a real earthquake and its aftermath to overcome that feeling of hopelessness.

Synopsis:

After a massive earthquake in Tokyo 25 km under the sea at a magnitude of 8.0, siblings Mirai and Yūki, who were visiting a robot exhibition in Odaiba at the beginning of their summer vacation, struggle to reach their parents in their house in Setagaya, assisted by a female motorcycle courier named Mari, who is striving to reach her own daughter and mother in Sangenjaya. Together, the three brave the ruined city and try their best to make it home safely.

What began as a robot exhibition in Odaiba between a sister and her brother turned into a special story told in the eyes of a young girl. It sparked emotional connection, something that few recent animes in my estimation has yet to achieve. The realism and overall theme of the story is performed very well and I feel that such an anime deserves praise.

I don't think it was being released back in 09 i don't think threads stated until 2010 on impressions

yes, yes it does..very decent gem in the raft. it also deserve some praise for
1.Produced by studio bones
2. Being completely orignal "no source material"
3. Staying realistic with it's goal "expect for some minor spoilers..."

Pretty sure there wasn't as I did a quick search before I created the thread. Nothing came up. Even if it did, it would probably be in 2009s which would of locked and this thread would be reformed anyways.

Isnt it ironic that a earthquake of the exact magnitude hit japan?

I've wanted to see this, but haven't got around to it yet.

I'm not sure if this is covered in the show, but the Japanese measure earthquakes differently than we do. Their shindo scale indicates intensity at a spot as opposed to the Richter scale which measures the overall energy/magnitude of an earthquake for an area.

Seen it, quite sad.
Even though the end might be obvious, it`s still sad.

the anime was produced 2 years prior to last years earth quake. It was set up as a counter measure with countless studies from the Japanese government to prepare for such an event and well it proves that it worked on some level. This is why that I stated it has no source material such as manga, light novel or visual novel. It is a completely original anime with things that can and did happen.

Watched it not long ago. A great story with poignant drama and some of the best character development ever, especially considering it's only 11 episodes. Seeing the show's scope range from the panoramic to the extremely personal is it's best attribute, forcing you to bring out the tissues in the end. Highly recommended.

This was good. It really felt an impression on me, which it why I still remember it now. It's sad how there aren't a lot of people who talk about this anime.

oh my god this anime is marvelous.
my heart broke into pieces.
expect annoyance in early episodes from the main girl character.

It's anybody's guess now at this late stage. It's been nearly 3 years since it's broadcast. So if for some reasons a US/UK distributor thinks they can make enough money on DVD sales, they might just release it, but that looks less and less likely as time goes on BUT you never know...
