I just try to joke. If somebody laughs, I get more confident. Like when I have to give a presentation in a class, just make a joke and loosen up.

LOL presentations are never important. Get a picture of a dick and start dancing to some funky music, if your teacher doesn't give you an A*, they suck.

Whenever I meet someone new, I always greet and talk to them like they are a good friend who you've never seen in a while.
I always breathe and try to be myself and get comfortable. Shyness always creeps up when there is a group of strangers around me (at this, I need a friend to tag along.) When this happens, I get quiet and observe....and intimidating-looking when I try not to be. :s

I am a really shy person socially, just not great at initiating conversation sometimes. Need to be around the right kind of people to feel comfortable.

Be confident in yourself, and what you're saying. The moment your confidence waivers, you're likely to begin stuttering, and then you'll go quiet. An easy way to go about doing things is pretty much like vis-a-vis said, talk like you're speaking to a friend, or a group of friends. People's judgement doesn't do very much to anyone, and you're more likely to receive positive reinforcement if you're speaking with confidence regardless.

Haha! Have you done that? Besides, I've been in enough trouble at school. I don't need another reason for my teachers to hate me!

Depends on your age. By the time you hit 25, you pretty much grow out of it and stop caring what other people think.

That only happens after I've known you for a week or so XD Yet somehow that gets turned around on me

Anywho, I don't neccissarily consider myself shy, it's more that I feel around to get a sense of what the person is like. Eventually I'll say things that involve more than one or two word responses.

When I'm shy I usually try to avoid eye contact with whom I'm being shy towards,
but to actually tackle shyness (Which I hardly am) I just tell myself that whoever I'm talking to is a potential friend, and that makes it a lot easier to counter your shyness on most cases.

I used to be very very shy, all the way up to my late 20s. Then, I begun putting myself in situations that force me to be social. I overcame a lot of shyness that way in my late 20s and early 30s. I now sit on a Board of Directors where I give reports in front of an audience once a month, teach a 100-level Computer Science course to ~ 30 students, and have a job that has me working with many different people. I no longer see myself as shy.
