I have nothing against fillers, but it can be frustrating trying to keep up with what is canon and what is not. To be honest I didn't watch Naruto after Season 5 (or 6) because until the end of series it was just filler after filler. I watched some here and there but I wasn't going to waste my consecutive time on something that had nothing to contribute or relate to the plot. Maybe once Shippuden ends I can start watching it.

An episode or 2 is fine. But I don't even watch many sitcoms because I hate random plot that is barely connected. Fillers are annoying just like that.

I don't mind filler if the stories are well written and consistent with previous events. ie. The main characters are not all of a sudden weaker to justify a challenge vs new minor enemies. I also don't like to use the term filler quickly, as some anime simply don't follow the manga on purpose. Some writers like to change it up to keep it fresh. That being said, I think that filler is better, since it keeps the series in people's minds, rather than risking viewers forgetting it and less returning to it later. Plus, you can always skip filler stories, if you want, putting your own viewing on hiatus, you might say. With filler episodes, you at least have the choice of watching or not. With hiatus, you simply can't see it at all.

That I completely agree with and do ^_^ I mainly skip them, but since some people love them and can't live without their shows it's fair. And some fillers like the Kakashi mask episode are funny and I enjoy. But more enjoy watching apart from the show then with it.

Bleach filler ... isn't that bad actually. I've enjoyed some of it, surprisingly. I just hope they bring Bleach back after the final arc is completed in the manga so they can just shoot through that, instead of starting it and putting filler in the middle.

Screw that dude I want season 2 of dead man wonderland love the avatar now lol

Ew, no. I loved Deadman Wonderland but the ending was bitter sweet as i don't know what. So, feeling empty, i read the manga. I'm a Anime fanboy, i hate manga, so when i say this it's true. The manga is 100x better than the Anime. The anime left so many details and characters out that it's almost a different story completely. Deadman Wonderland needs a re-make if anything, not a season 2.

That to me is one of the worst parts of filler, they did 100 episodes of nothing in Naruto But they rushed through dead man wonderland like their pants were on fire. IMO DMW should have been 2 seasons or about the same length as FMA which did really good with their story.

The only reason to end a good show too soon is that you run out of ideas but DMA started slow and could have gone on a lot longer, and Bleach was perfect about always raising more question than it answered, as long as you don't box yourself in, by either answering all the questions or making your character more powerful than god, I'm looking at you DBZ, than you can go on almost indefinitely.

I thought bleach jumped the shark with the Aizen fight but the last arc did a good job at resting everything to the way it was in the first or secound season.

I hope if Fairy Tail has fillers soon that it will be good. I much prefer good fillers than for it to be gone.

I vote for hiatus.

Take Major(sports anime) as an example, it is a 152 episode anime with little or no drop of production quality. Why? Because it is divided by 6 seasons with 26 episode each. Each season has a gap of 6 months to almost a year. With that amount of hiatus, the animators could plan more carefully and they have more time to make the anime as perfect as possible..

If Anime could have "good filler" on a regular basis, I'd be fine with filler, but most filler is usually REALLY bad, so I'd say I'd rather have a hiatus.

It depends.

As some people said, no one's forcing you to watch fillers and yes, some are terrible, especially the Naruto Shippuden episodes involving Naruto's (SPOILER AHEAD) journey to the Island Turtle. (You could sense the desperation and lacking of ideas).

As for the one chapter per episode, that's near impossible, considering Weekly Shonen chapters are about 16-20 pages (unless you're Hiro Mashima) and it takes about 5 minutes to read compared to a 20-minute episode.

This really depends on the quality of the filler. Some filler can be worth watching while other filler makes you want to rip your hair out. In the latter case I'd prefer hiatus.

I would say hiatus, but how Japan announces new seasons I'm not sure it will ever come back once it stops.

This.

Major was FLAWLESS.
I wish they had made a full anime for the World Series though.

I have to second the sentiment even though I haven't seen Major.

I much prefer quality over filler. There's so much great entertainment out there that there is no need to put up with sub-par material.

!!!!!!!
I mean...

Who's doing the fillers anyway?
Are the animators just coming up with random storylines or are they getting them from the mangaka?

Well, I know in a number of cases the mangaka may be involved, but they don't have much control over things. The stories come from the writers with input from the director, I believe. Mangakas tend not to interfere, for various reasons. Usually, they are just happy for the boost in manga sales that an anime will cause.

For filler specifically: I don't think the mangakas care too much. They are busy with the manga. It usually falls on the anime writers to fix any inconsistencies.

I don't have anything against filler or if a series goes on hiatus
but sometimes, a hiatus just becomes a code word for "we'll make another season...soon...eventually...if we care enough...maybe"

and then like the other posters said above, some fillers are just nonsensical and hair pulling inducing

its a really iffy choice for me

i'll take the risk for hiatus though, as long as it doesn't stretch beyond a year

mmm I would prefer them to go on a not so long break until they have enough material to make 2 season at a time.

I understand why they dont want to go on a break because the production company risk in the fans loosing interest in their merchandize therefore loosing a profit. Its all about the money man. which is why One Piece is still going , they learned the hard way with DBZ and I got this info first hand
