It really depends on the genre. If it's action with a deep plot, I'd prefer hiatus. If it's slice-of-life, there's really no point of it going into hiatus, because it's slice-of-life. It'd take like twenty seconds to come up with a story for the episode. (Note: Slice-of-life is my favorite genre, so don't think I'm making fun of it)

If a filler equals fan service episode in a show that eschews that type of entertainment, then I gladly welcome it. Beach, hot spring, or swim meet are always welcome if it's done in moderation. Now if it is about a side character that will not be integral to the plot, I'd rather not have that kind of filler. Lastly, recap episodes are the most shameful kind of filler and need to go away even if I understand why they exist. To be honest, filler is the main reason I gave up on Bleach (well, I got bored with The Bount Arc, to be honest....)

Honestly I don't mind filler. The more anime the better in my mind. So i'd choose filler over hiatus

I'll always prefer a hiatus over making crap just to pass the time.

I think a Hiatus is good for some series but bad for others for example when it came to Gintama(Gintama has no real storyline) filler would be better than hiatus especially since I've never not liked a filler episode of Gintama. But for series that have an actual storyline (like Naruto) a hiatus would be better.

Depends on how long for me. If you just need 1 season, I'd rather have filler, since it keeps things going. But if you're going to be like Naruto and go on for a year (or more), I'd rather see the hiatus. Some shows, like Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi took a small break between seasons 1 and 2, so... I guess a hiatus is better if you don't know how long it'll be.

I agree with that. More than likely, if the person made it that far in the series, they're watched all the episodes anyway and should remember the important parts. I understand reminding the viewer of some things he/she may have forgotten but its so annoying to see an entire show of stuff you've already seen. I don't even watch episodes like that, because I've already seen it before.

As explained by Gin-san

I feel that is more likely to happen to hiatus anime. Some anime just aren't as popular as others there is no guarantee your sponsors will return

This has probably already been said, but depends on the anime.

Bleach, for example, most of the time essentially creates an alternate timeline for their fillers. In my mind, the only exception to this is the Bount arc, which would have fit in very well, and they even carried some of the characters into the standard anime storyline. This doesn't mean the other fillers were bad, I personally liked the Shusuke Amagai arc.

Naruto, though I haven't seen much of it, doesn't really make sense with filler. I mean, you have this designated enemy you're fighting, even if you do get a break from this ongoing war, you're not going to spend that time doing what is done in a filler.

I'm not sure if it has any because I haven't watched much of it yet, but Gintama could totally get away with fillers, just because it's that kind of anime. Whereas the main points of Naruto and Bleach are action, with a good bit of comedy, Gintama has comedy for the main point, though at some parts has some nice fights. Actually, I'm not even sure Gintama has a designated plot.

Hiatus, definitely.
That way you also have more time to focus on other anime ^.^
