Ok, now that it is over, and we all tried to avoid spoilers, what did you think of the series and the ending?

Did you like that it was the assistant teacher/aunt?

How did you like Mei's actions throughout even though she knew who it was?

Did you like the execution of everything...what are your thoughts??

Full spoilers!

I actually thought this was a great series - most of its horror was psychological and not simply a bloodbath...until the last (2) episodes of course!

I thought it was decent idea to make it the assistant teacher...but I wonder if the novel/manga ever revealed that she was the also Reiko, his aunt. I mean, I always wondered what her job was and why the teacher's assistant was so weird and why she looked like Reiko.

Also, when Reiko got smacked in the head in the mansion, why did Sakahirbara not scream out AUNT REIKO! or something like that!...I just felt the last (2) episodes a lot of people were acting weird (not running when there was a fire going on...)

Also, I wish the Librarian was the one to kill Reiko, because maybe him killing the dead one might actually end it since he was the one who started it???

I felt it was kind of a cheat. Yes they did provide a few hints like the grandfather lament. Here is the problem, they had someone say there was always an extra student (and one less desk) then the room was set up for. This year there was not BUT they still decided to choose a student to shun restoring a balance that was never unbalanced to the best of their knowledge. If you had an extra student you know records are changed so it is a 1 in 20+ who the extra is, now other faculty know about this “unique” class feature, so in a year when there is no extra student (by desk count) BUT there is an extra teacher connected to the cursed class (and a desk shortage in the faculty room) no one thinks this is suspicious? They did not say no other class has an assistant but they do specifically say it is an extra student each year; that’s way more than a red herring. Don't get me wrong I liked the series but the ending was kind of a cheat and introduced serious plot holes. As a humorous aside unlike students teachers are paid and taxes are withheld. The "extra" has no power outside of the city (note the student killed at the beach actually began dying in the city) so how are they going to reconcile the tax forms and the budgets next year, a person who never cashes their checks would also be suspect of being odd.

The series was good until the last four episodes. If Mei knew she could have done something about it a long time ago and nobody would have to die, especially in the last two episodes. No concrete reason was given of why she did not disclose the extra person She should have declared that the teacher was the extra. All that random killing .. people just die in the old hotel.... weak weak ending.
I will not be watching the live action.

Very funny about the tax forms! - The government I'm sure expects dead people to pay their taxes as well!

I agree with everything you said. Up until the last 2 episodes I was loving every aspect of this show...including the beach episode as it provided some additional character development and progressed into the solution of finding the tape.

However, the entire time, we are going off of what we are "told" so we always have to believe what is being said...in this case that it was a dead "student." - with no mention of it being a teacher...was this the first time that an extra desk was brought in for the faculty??? probably since I think Mei said that there was never an assistant before???? and why did the librarian who seems to be on the up and up not spot this out as suspicious? - I still think he needed to do the killing as he was the one who started it.

Also, I had a feeling at one point that it was the assistant homeroom teacher (Reiko) but when the librarian/Mei kept pointing us in the direction of the students, I forced myself to dismiss it. I also have to say that I thought the assistant teacher always acted weird and Reiko would come home and look like she got the weight of the world off her shoulders.

Finally, the thing that got me was when Miss Mikami (Reiko) was seemingly assaulted by the student and we all thought she was dead...however why did Kouichi not scream "Aunt Reiko!" or "Don't die Reiko!" - instead...he just grabs Mei and runs away from what I remember. That would have been a good time for him to reveal the truth and have Mei say...."you mean that's your aunt?" - or did everyone just know that...so I guess he just left his aunt there to die??? what a nice nephew...

Loved this series, but I agree, there were some holes that needed to be filled and the last (2) episodes kinda soured it a little

You're right about that...if she would have went to to Sakahibara-kun...or hell even the librarian with the fact of there being an extra teacher...she did not even have to say that she could see dead people...

There were many people that died...and I love Mei, but she simply acted unintelligent during some of the later episodes.

The ending, especially the last 2 episodes were the weakest in the series - although I still loved the series...

I actually liked it. It was good. It had that nice suspense but I kind of thought that they should have had more people die. I thought that if they had the year that most of the people died which only 5 make it out alive. I also thought they should have had a surpise ending in which and explosion kills off everyone or a truck kills off someone that says that it isn't over for that year... :(

I'm just sad that some people that got hit by the chandeliers survived, liked that ugly girl with the glasses (I can't believed she still had her glasses, while that other boy lost his...). I was surpised that Maejima was saved and survived. I'm sad that Akazawa died but they have to kill off a popular character so they can have suspense. But I was laughing that after she died, when Koichi was leaving her, that explosion made a beamer fall on her... I was like awe it's a puppy but it was Reiko trying to get out of the lumber... I thought the clues that proved Reiko was the dead one was weak... But I like how it's the stuff that aren't noticed... :P

I was trying to calculate who died by print screening a picture of the people of the class and rewatching episode 11 and 12 to see who died... A lot of the people died...

I feel pretty satisfied overall-- maybe I'm just not taking it all too seriously. This was one of the shows I most looked forward to watching each week. However, I do feel it was never well explained why Mei, given that she could see the Another and knew all along who it was, never disclosed the Another's identity nor even hinted at it until the very end. Merely to avoid hurting Sakakibara's feelings or something like that? Given the huge human toll, that doesn't compute.

Of course, they've presumably only halted the curse for the year. Next year it'll re-start and continue on as usual with a new crop of victims. I'm a bit disappointed nothing was done towards possibly ending the curse for good-- though maybe that's in a sequel or subsequent novel?

Actually she didn't disclose the dead one because she knew it was his Aunt and thought that him finding out would only hurt him, and she didn't want to hurt her friend. (It was kinda hinted when she said she couldn't have told him)

Don't get me wrong, I did love this anime...one of the better 12 episode arcs I have seen...except for those last 2 episodes.

However, the whole Reiko being the dead one with all the other unnecessary deaths, and Mei not telling him to "hurt" his feelings just does not compute - maybe they were going with the "how horrible it is to lose family" route since Mei lost her sister and did not want him to go through the same feelings?

But, one thing that made no sense and I found on a Another wiki to back me up (I thought I was crazy but actually I thought this was the reality) - "Reiko and Mikami-sensei is the same person whilst having different hair color and voice actresses [in the anime]" -

That right there is just pure weird...I thought her hair looked darker when she was a teacher and lighter when she was at home...same thing with her voice...that was a cheat in my opinion.

I agree with JediPrime. While an explanation for Mei's silence was indeed given, that reason struck me as rather unconvincing, given Mei's character. She's a sympathetic character-- even one of the "heros" of the series. She would be conscienscious enough to set aside Sakakibara's personal feelings, even despite her own perhaps budding personal feelings for him, in order to save the class (including herself and Sakakibara) from the all-powerful, brutal, and otherwise seemingly unstoppable death curse.

Very well said sushipath. Allowing the amount of children/families to die...especially coming from a sympathetic character just seemed out of character for Mei.

Even when she was confronting Izumi...not saying a word...staying stoic; she could have saved her life.

I just don't understand why the old hotel lady was killing everybody. Were we supposed to assume that she was just crazy or did I miss something?

I think she went crazy because of the curse...but I have to go back and see if the crazy glasses girl who made the announcement to kill Mei called her "Grandma?"

So maybe she decided to start killing everyone to stop the curse with her Granddaughter, or the curse just possessed her? Honestly, that made no sense to me.

They said the owners of the house were the grandparents of one of the student's that died (don't remember who they said) and they were taking it really hard. So, I think she was going crazy and trying to kill everybody to end the curse.
