Watching Japanese television shows, you tend to wonder about how they regularly live life in Japan.. Unless you know about life in Japan.. I wonder myself a lot of the time.. Post questions that you may have about life in Japan that you're not sure about, and someone else answer the question. (don't forget to quote it)

Example:
Q. Why do the Japanese have such a crappy system of law and order?

A. Due to the result of America winning against Japan in World War II, Japan has become completely protected by the American government. Japan had also become forbidden to upgrade their military power. Military power reflects the power of police authority. In return for their lack of military power, their taxes go into education and technology.
(please correct me if I'm wrong)

My questions..

Q. I always see people in Japanese anime wearing towels around their bodies while in the process of taking a bath. Sometimes, they don't do this. I have also heard that they were required to keep their towels outside of the water. I don't know if it varies depending on whether it's a mixed, boy or girl bath.. Or if towels should be kept out of the water at all times. Can someone clarify this for me?

Q. When I watch anime, it's obvious that cars are all over the place in Tokyo. But it's rare to see an anime character that actually drives a car.. Is it rare for a teenager to drive cars in Japan or is there a different age limit?

Q. Rapes and gang bangs are quite common in anime, and I'm probably guessing it's also common in real life Japan due to it's lack of police force. What is the Rape and gang bang rate in Japan?

If its a mixed bath then you should wear the towels. if its not then you dont have to, but it actully depends on the spa place and the regulations i think. Some popele also prefer to not wrap there towels in non-mixed baths

Mass transit like trains or buses are most commonly used in Japan. Most students take the bus or train to school because it saves time and money. People also take the train to their jobs almost everyday. So I guess yes, it's rare for teens to drive cars in a sense.

what is the purpose of public baths? is it more of a hot tub thing. after showering you go sit in the jacuzzi to soak . they don't really wash in a tub with strangers do they. i know they have these public baths in other countries, not just asain ones, it's just somethig i never understood. i wouldn't shower in highschool gymclass unless they had individual shower stalls. i did that group shower one time, and then had my mom get a doctor's note excusing me from gym.

That's some question you got there.... But the Japan's law regarding sexual harrasment and such is extremely weak. They really don't care very much.

2. Their laws regarding sexual harrasment and such is extremely weak. Sometimes, even if people get raped, they don't even report it. Even if they do, they get a very weak punishment.

i've seen some crazy things happening in Japan.... You REALLY don't want to get near the Yakuza at all. It's pretty obvious, but here's what I found from Wikpedia awhile back.

This 16 year old girl, was kidnapped by 4 yakuza guys. and she was raped, and tortured with bottles, bats, and stuff like that. They tortured and raped her for like 4 weeks, and finally, she said she wanted to die. The yakuza guys oiled her, then burned her to death. She died due to shock. Lastly, they dumped her body in 40 gallons of cement. They got caught in the act, and the 4 guys have to pay about 1.9 mill in cash in total, and was sentence to jail for about 10 years.

What Japan law are really weak if it's my country those guys may be have a dead punishment or lifetime prison!

The public baths have been in japan from a long time back(they were at their popularity peak in the edo era)and they were mostly were constructed of wood in most places. but the modern baths in japan are not like those in ancient japan nor like the ones shown in anime.
Today in japan, there is a VERY limited number of mixed-public bath houses(called sentou or Sentō) or mixed jot springs(called Onsen in japan) as opposed in anime where there is a mixed Sentō , whenrever shown. the reason is due to the american impact after WWII and the commencement of the Heisei era. nearly all the Sentō in industrialised japan, i.e. the cities, have been made into either only for men or only for women, there are a few which run both sections in one complex but the bathing areas are not segregated by a weak wooden board (as shown in most animes)
The Mixed bath and mixed onsen are mostly found only in rural areas of modern japan .
Most sentou prohibit the towel from touching the water, since it is considered bad etiqutte from the customers' side, but they are allowed to keep a small towel over their head after the enter the pool area.
Gender does not have to do anything with 'wraping' the towel around one's body if it is a mixed bath or not. a lot of emphasis is given to etiqutte in japan, whether it is in the use of honorifics or bathouses.
