No one asks to be raped. Ever. Let's get that out of the way.

BUT Women could afford to recognize that what they wear does have an impact on how they are perceived. For example, if you walk into a job interview with cut off shorts and a tank top people will think that you are irresponsible. Society sees us for how we dress. If you see a man walking down the street in a suit you're going to assume he has some kind of office job. That being said, if you walk around with all your lady parts hanging out, people will think that you are "easy." Is it fair? Absolutely not! Does that mean you deserve to be raped? Of course not.

What I am trying to say is that wearing scant clothing can evoke sexual thoughts in men. You can't blame them for it either because it's a biological response. If your boobs are hanging out and your under-butt can be seen under your skirt, that's going to get you a lot of negative attention. I'm not saying that women need to walk around in burlap sacks, but KNOW that how you dress has an impact. If you don't care about guys oogling you like a piece of meat, then do what you want.

The thing i CAN'T stand is the women who dress very revealing and then complain that people look. My mother (God rest her soul) always used to say, "If you don't want someone looking at it, put it away." I have a big scar on my back, for example. I don't go around showing it to everyone because I don't want it to be looked at. You don't want people looking at your boobs? Don't have them out there.

The girl above me is absolutely right about everything she just said.
When I feel like I want to turn heads I do dress a little revealing, and when I don't I cover up.
When i wear skirts it's because I want to show off my legs that I work so hard to get them in shape, but I don't have my ass hanging out. That's just asking for trouble...

Some people enjoy being raped or the opposite. It all comes down to what type of person they are.

Girls need to understand that they are physically weaker than men. If you are attacked you 'will' get hurt.
Sometimes it's good to be a little cautious, no?

Hmmmm....

Okay, let's put aside out bias because everyone in this thread probably wears miniskirts on a daily basis. (I, for one, don't). Obviously, this is why

Now, let's think.

Who'd be more likely to get raped? A woman in underwear....err...a miniskirt, or a woman in slacks? How, in any fucking was is a mini-skirt 'just showing a little bit of leg'.

Are you fucking stupid? Of course you'd be less likely to get raped when you're not wearing something that barely covers up your ass. Of course you're less likely to get raped if you don't let your cleavage hang out. The way women dress to day can hardly be called 'just showing a little bit of skin'

Please take note that I do not support this, I simply find the video quite stupid and one sided. Of course no one ever asks to get raped. That's silly. But you know, you might as well be more cautious. It's not a bad thing. Would you rather wear pants or get raped? I know it's not always like that, but sometimes it's as simple as that. So take precautions as stop having these stupid double standards. Jesus, that woman. I want to skin her alive.

It's not a question of whether or not the men are weak enough to not be able to control themselves. If they can't, yes, they are weak. So what can you do about it? It very well could happen, would it kill you to take precautions? Yes, there are scum like this out there. So? While know this, you still dress like a hooker?

The simple logic is: YOU CANNOT CONTROL OTHERS BEING WEAK AND STUPID. SO DO WHAT YOU CAN TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM SCUM.

Well, if you wanna go around naked, go ahead. None of my business. Just don't try to blame it all on the man when you get raped. If I were a man, I'd much rather marry a woman who understands that you can't just do what ever the fuck you want.

Basically you're saying that you don't have to teach your daughters not to act like whores, all you have to do is teach your sons not to be a rapist. How stupid are you?

This is life. The government isn't completely stupid. The fact that they need to point this out to you shows how stupid and doubled standard-riddled the female population has become. Why is old-fashioned bad, again?

'Wear bikinis in the streets to protest!'

Grow up. Just because you own something, does not mean you should disrespect it, just because you can.

dat accent XD. OT: Changing the outfit may make a woman less likely to get raped, but it probably wont bring down the rape rate in the country. The best way to handle it would be to increase the police presence and have the women take self defence courses. This law probably has a lot to do with religion though as Indonesia is borderline sharia law.

First off, I support the principal that you should be able to wear what you like. I hate the idea that you should blame the victim. In my hometown however there is now an annual 'slut walk' protest aimed at some poor police constable who while trying to relay safety information got tagged as sexist who blames victims by suggesting that for safety purposes woman should consider what they wear.

In a perfect world we shouldn't have to worry about getting raped or mugged or murdered. however...

If I mouth off to a bunch of guys in gang colours and biker leathers I would be doing nothing wrong, I would not have anything coming. do you think that would save me?

If I flash a large roll of bills and brand new bling while getting very drunk at a less than reputable bar.... would you think me wise?

So why was that police officer sexist for counseling caution?

This is just a poor reflection of jealousy and personal insecurity manifesting itself though constant bombardment in the media and a changing fashion scene.

A woman does not deserve to be harassed or raped simply because she wears short shorts/skirts or revealing clothing. It may mean she lacks better judgment depending on where she wears aforementioned attire, but it doesn't mean she 'gets what she deserves'.

I hate this mentality. Not only does it put the blame entirely on women, which is utter crap, it also assumes that men can't keep it in their pants . That somehow a man is 100% incapable of functioning normally or with any sense of moral judgment when it comes to a woman wearing clothing that enhances her assets (or might just be damn comfortable for all you know).

Seriously, it's an insult to you men. It's demeaning to women.

We shouldn't be told what we can and can't wear simply because some guys (or girls) don't like what we wear. We don't live in the Middle East where women are required in many places to cover up and we don't live in ancient times where debauchery and 'fun' went hand in hand, more often than not at the expense of women (or animals).

Nothing against the OP (because you said nothing wrong and you asked a good question), but I am really getting sick and tired of this crap in the United States. Stop telling people what to do (generally speaking to the populace, not the OP) and go about your lives. It's my body (or his or hers) and I will do what I want with it. If I want an abortion.. well shove off. It's my choice until that fetus pops out as a baby. If I want to wear skimpy clothing because it is a hot day and I think I can get away with it? Well, too bad! My body, my mind.

Seriously, people need to stop sticking their noses into the business of everyone else and live their freakin' lives instead of telling everyone else in the country how to live theirs or spreading false messages like "Youse gonna get raped wearin' that stuff!"

While I agree with you on many points, I disagree on the front that wearing more clothing will keep you from being harmed.

Why, you might ask? Experience.

Sometimes, it doesn't matter what you wear, you will still be assaulted. I have a friend, for example, who has been assaulted more times than anyone I know (or have even heard of). She doesn't particularly hang around bars or wear revealing clothing. She has a normal job and she lives in a normal (albeit unsafe) city.

She was assaulted numerous times when we were in college together (despite what she was wearing). She has been assaulted in another city on the East Coast a couple of times (one with a baseball bat that was aimed at her poor car) and she's been assaulted in the city she lives in now (also on the East Coast).

My point is, it doesn't matter what she wears, she is still the subject of potential assault. However, despite the fact that she has been assaulted many times, she has never, to my knowledge, been raped. Why? Because she takes the precautions though self defense training or carrying mace/pepper spray.

Why is she the subject of so much negative attention?? It's because she is extremely attractive and weighs about 135 lbs. I imagine she looks like an easy target to overtake.. but man, are they always wrong.
