The discussion here seems to focus on the network (TV Tokyo, Tokyo MX, etc.) in terms of predicting simulcasts. I assume that means the network is the company responsible for negotiating and licensing simulcasts? Between ANN’s economy and licensing features, it was not clear to me which company in the production committee would handle licensing negotiations. Also, would the same company, the network, handle licensing the full distribution rights to an international distributor?

There are two types of TV stations - Self producing ones (TV Tokyo, TBS, NTV, Fuji, NHK etc) and ones that don't produce series themself (Tokyo MX, TV Kanagawa etc).

From what I've seen self producing TV stations often hold the international distribution rights, while the ones that don't produce series themself don't. It also depends on the other members of the production committee - a few major producers like to hold the distribution rights themself (Aniplex, Kadokawa, Mediafactory etc).

Just to be clear, these are on NicoNico.jp, not NicoNico.com, which has pretty much dropped the ball for the past season at least. So it has no relation to the Funico agreement.

Correct. The niconico.jp list is primarily of interest because it is a good indication of what shows will be will definitely be available for streaming in the U.S. (although typically there is one exception), and for information on what company is handling each show. The company handling the show can sometimes give an indication of the most likely U.S. company to stream said show).

If NicoNico.com offers nothing this time around, I believe we can officially consider them as having left the anime simulcast business.

It should be noted that for the past 3 seasons, Aniplex has offered a show via NicoNico.jp for world wide streaming (Fate/Zero in Fall 2011 and Spring 2012, Black Rock Shooter in Winter 2012), so it stands to reason they may do so again this season. We can only hope if they do that it will be available on CR a week later, for better and/or more predictable video quality.

If Aniplex does it again this season, I'd imagine it'll be Sword Art Online. It seems like the biggest title they got this season.

It will be SAO if they do it again since its the only aniplex title that will be on nico.

Bummer. CR only have 8 unannounced simulcasts.

Expect Horizon II

Also, my speculation for the remaining would be:

(?) jinrui --> Marvelous Entertainment, unless FUNi will be a dick and will snag this
(?) chitose get you --> Takeshobo
(?) utakoi --> TV Tokyo (though I wonder why this wasn't announced along with the other TV Tokyo titles like Oda Nobuna)
(?) bimbougami ga --> same as Utakoi
(?) natsuyuki rendezvous --> noitaminA (might be Sentai-sublicensed)

Not sure:
* Dog Days ---> Aniplex (if CR gets it, then it might have been sublicensed from Sentai)
* Joshiraku ---> (King Records ?)
* Kokoro Connect ---> (King Records ?)
* Hagure Yuusha ---> (Media Factory, if not Sentai, then Funi)
* Nakaimo ---> (Also a Media Factory title)
* Koi Choco ---> Aniplex (same as Dog Days)

There are 14 continuing, though which gives us 25, and they tend to add more boxes.

It's strange that Poyopoyo isn't on that list too, assuming that the information that says it's continuing is true (I've been following this site for years and haven't seen it off by an entire cour before).

Keep in mind that CR typically adds a few boxes as time goes on. I suspect those 8 boxes are for what they will announce at AX this afternoon. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 9th appear when they finish (unless they only announce 7).

It is summer, and we shouldn't expect as many pick-ups as would happen in Fall or Spring.

However, when Crunchyroll first started the boxes thing, it seemed like they put up boxes for series that they "expected" they would be getting but didn't have a signed contract for yet ... which worked one season but then blew up in their faces the next. I'm guessing that they've switched to waiting until the contract is signed to put up a box.

Since they are at the big convention this weekend, and so are the major US distributors, it wouldn't be surprising if they are signing one or more sub-licenses this weekend, which would lead to some more boxes getting put up early next week.
