Sword Art Online

The story of Sword Art Online follows Kirito, a solo player who had the luck-of-the-draw to play the beta version, and the many other players of Sword Art Online (SAO) are trapped inside of a game, unable to logout; the only way to live is to win. Death in-game means death in the real world, tampering or prolonged power outage with the Nerve Gear, the gear that simulates in-game character control by redirecting brain signals, also means death. To win means to defeat the final boss on the top floor, out of the original 10,000 players at the start, two years later 6,000 remain and 26 floors left to clear.

Personally I look forward to this simply because it is a fantasy setting, and a protagonists that is somewhat special. I've always been fond of anime where that one male lead is different or special yet he is discrete about it, and Kirito fits the bill.

I loved the novels so I'm looking forward to it. I just hope they can do the originals justice. Seems like it could be kind of tough to adapt while keeping the tension of the original.

It sounds like a cross between the .hack// series and Tower of God. I'll give it a try.

Novels? As in not manga? Because I first saw Sword Art Online as a manga and I can only find the first five chapters. Where did you find the novels?

Yes, it is a series of light novels.

The first few chapters of the manga didn't work for me, but I'm willing to give the anime a chance.

The novel has now piqued my interests. I'll give it a try

Yeah, they're being fan-translated on baka-tsuki which is where I read it, the first few arcs are fully translated and the first novel is really more than good enough to stand on its own.
