I did not discover anything by myself, a friend practically shoved Inuyasha the anime right in front of my nose and forced me to watch it. So I suppose you could say my love for anime/manga/Japan started ever since.

I think my first titles were Voltron (Golion) and Robotech (Macross Plus / Southern Cross) only to later be followed by Teknoman (Tekkaman Blade) and Vampire Hunter D.

Anime. Did not know it was anime though, I was just really excited that there was animation on tv that told a serious, adult story instead of a comedy like the Simpsons or Family Guy.

Anime. I remember seeing Galaxy Express 999 on one of the cable pay channels. Suckered my parents into buying some anime VHS tapes from the commercials and watched it ever since. I still watch some anime but mostly I read the manga now to get the better story.

Man, didn't even know Pokemon and Sailor Moon at the time were Anime, haha.
But yes, Anime came first.
I read manga of any series before the anime. As long as the artwork is nice. =)

Definitely Anime with Pokemon, Sailor Moon (I have two sisters ._.), and Digimon. I didn't even know the name of the... style until I was like 8 or 9 when I first saw Inuyasha when I was watching tv late at night at my relative's house. Forgot about it for a few years and then one day I watched Spirited Away with my cousin and he showed me Inuyasha again. And that's my discovery of anime (shortened).
