Daily Lives of High School Boys

Comment / Review: This is a pretty short (one cour) comedy anime kind of similar to Minami-ke except a bit more outrageous. The cast is pretty large but each character is differentiated well. You've got the three main guys (Yoshitake, Tadakuni, and Hidenori) and their families, their classmates from an all-boys school, girls from a nearby all-girls school, and a handful of more extended of characters they just run into a lot during their daily lives (usually on river banks).

This isn't a "boy anime" much either; I think it'd be hilarious for anyone and the girls are around a lot and they get their own mini-episodes within the series. Habara especially was awesome and her elementary school past was great.

Rating: 10 out of 10 (-1 for personal bias, and -4 if you don't like the humor, although I can't imagine that).
Recommended: Yes; I loved every minute of this anime.

Name: Nisemonogatari
Comment/Review: If you enjoyed the first series (Bakemonogatari) then you'll probably enjoy this one with the only difference being that it has way more ecchi in it. The series focuses on Araragi's sisters than the usual harem from the first series. Although personally it wasn't as good as the first one it was still worth watching.

Okay I'm finally done with it! Last bump I promise.

Fate/stay night

Comment / Review: Okay, I'd rather not explain the premise of this one too heavily. A lot of primary plot points of this show rest on the events that transpired in Fate/Zero, so if you plan on watching that one first, then I've got you covered lol. Let's just say it has the same basic premise that Fate/Zero does, but 10 years later and with different characters. Also, forgive me if I constantly compare stay night with Zero. I think it's only natural.

Story: I have a general appreciation for the story of the Fate franchise thanks to watching both of the shows. You can tell that Fate/Zero was a good prequel to the original, and you can tell that Fate/stay night was a good sequel to the prequel and so on. The story as a whole plays out in a much more lighthearted manner than Fate/Zero does, so it's not super serious all the time. I think this works in its favor, as it makes the whole situation a bit more relateable. This pays off big time in the ending, or for any serious or emotional part of the show. The only complaint I have is where perhaps there was some retconning between installments, but I think that's okay.

Art: This was produced by Studio Deen rather than ufotable, and on a significantly lower budget (not that we can hold it against them for being lower than ufotable lol). Still, the aesthetics are surprisingly similar in both shows, with less CG used in Fate/stay night, which I personally like.

Characters: Much of the driving force of the story is finding out who the individual masters and servants are, rather than having it all spelled out to you. I think this makes for a better sense of tension and story progression. The characters themselves are also pretty well-written and mysterious, and likable or unlikable when they need to be. I really like the main character too. He's kinda dumb, but I still like him lol. The biggest triumph would probably be Saber and Shirou and their character development, whereas I didn't find the cast of side characters to be quite as good as Fate/Zero.

Music: So, I listened to the music intently after being disappointed in myself that I never noticed what was apparently an incredible score in Fate/Zero. The score stands out in Fate/stay night, which I first thought of as a good thing, but then eventually I started subconsciously criticizing it in my mind as the show went on. I still think it's an acceptable score, but it sounds rather outdated (like even for the time that the show was made). Also, I didn't like any of the OP's, and the only real song I liked was the one at the end. But it's completely secondary to the story, so I can't bring myself to take off any points.

Rating: 10/10 (better than Fate/Zero in my opinion)

Highschool DxD

Comment: Boobs, demons and angels, highschool, wanna-be harem king. That sums up the show. Saying that though, this is a good series, the plot is actually enjoyable when you consider the amount of ecchi that this show brings to the table. The story of a struggle between demons, fallen angels, and heavenly angels is pretty well done and along with the ecchi will keep you coming back for more. The male lead is a big time pervert and continues to be the whole length of the show but he does have a fair amount of serious character progression in the last few episodes of the 1st season. His character largely reverts to his old self in the two OVAs that followed the end of the season though and for that reason, while the OVAs were kind of fun, they weren't something that I personally will consider canon.

Rating: 6.5/10 This wasn't the most amazing show ever by far, but it was a decent watch.

Recommendation: Yes, for those that love loads of ecchi, comedy, and a light sprinkling of serious action/drama and a story that revolves around demons and/or angels.

Name: Spirited Away
Comment: Still a really good movie, just as I remember it from when I first saw it years ago on Cartoon Network.
Rating: 9.5/10 great anime movie to watch, falls short of a 10 due to small and forgivable short comings.
Recommendation: Totally! Like many other people say, this movie is definitely a classic and is something you should definitely watch some time during the course of your anime career

My Teenage Romantic Comedy SNAFU
Comment/Review: Adeptly inverts many of the tropes and conventions of high school anime, and remains a joy to watch despite always going against the standard. Surprisingly deep and thoughtful. Will drag you into thinking about its themes against your will, but refrains from telling you what it thinks is the 'right' argument.
Rating: 8/10
