Latest two were Neon Genesis Evangelion and Serial Experiments Lain.

Both were exceptional. Great stuff. Eva in particular was a masterpiece.

(Almost) Everything Evangelion starting with the first 2 rebuild movies in late August, to the original series and End of Evangelion in October. I watched 3.0 this past Saturday/Sunday. It's definitely one of the best things I've watched all year right behind the final season of Breaking Bad.

I'm gonna get back to watching Lain today. I've been procrastinating on continuing the series for over a week and it's making me mad.

Sket Dance: 77 episodes long

Comment/Review: It was hilarious. It is a comedy/gag anime akin to the well known Gintama. It has many "silly" moments.

I liked it because it had a good mixture of comedy, drama, and romance. But it is mostly comedy. Its not all fun and games though. When the show gets serious it hits you over the head with a hammer. I even teared up in some parts. But these moments are pretty rare.

Anyways, I enjoyed the episodic structure. The characters are really well done because they have good and strong development. A great anime to watch if your looking for a laugh. Plus it makes you want to help the people around you.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

Recommended: Yes. But this anime is episodic in structure. There are a few arcs that are two to three episodes long but not that many. So if you want to watch something with a strong overarching plot then this may not be a good pick.

Name of Anime: Hell Girl / Hell Girl 2 Mirrors

Comment / Review: Captivating. Not so much on the animation, but that's
because it dates a couple years back. However if you're really into dark stories, it won't
hurt to take a look at this series. There are three seasons, I've just started the third and
my opinion on it is a little shaky.

Natsume Yuujinchou

Comment/Review: If you like slice of life, then you'll surely like Natsume Yuujinchou. Even though it's slow-paced, the characters, every episode leaves a lasting impression

The Twelve Kingdoms:

Length: 45 episodes.

Comment / Review: When a tall blonde stranger shows up at Yoko's school and pledges his allegiance to the frightened class president, she and two of her classmates are transported to another world of mythical beasts and magic. I had dropped on this series once before; it had a fairly cliche intro, and Yoko had a BAD case of Shinji Syndrome in the beginning. But she grows out of it within 10 episodes, and quickly becomes the highlight of the series.

Without spoilers, I can tell you this anime is a little bit old (from 2002) and is fairly methodically paced, which were both big draws for me. Lately I feel like anime has been stealing too many pages out of Michael Bay's notebooks, so going back to something that offered longer, less-flamboyant character arcs with deeper, more thoughtful themes was a nice experience. I found episodes 23-24 (of the A Thousand Miles of Wind, The Sky at Dawn arc) particularly challenging.

While there are battles, I found the culminations of the various character and story arcs to be the most rewarding scenes from this series. I also loved the mythology and the mythical beasts, especially the Kirin - of whom Kouri was my favorite. You really feel the weight of responsibility being shouldered by many of these characters, and several times I found myself wondering what I would do if I were in their shoes, because there really wasn't a readily obvious answer.

The drawback to this series is that it doesn't nearly cover all the source material contained in the novels, so while it does end at the conclusion of a story arc, there were plot threads introduced which were never tied off within the anime (the most notable of which is probably Kouri and the Kingdom of Tai). The anime is also divided into four story arcs, two of which are unrelated to Yoko's story (which was only one of several contained within the novels). But I enjoyed them all.

Rating: 8 out of 10 (-1 for personal bias, -3 if you prefer faster pacing and more action).
Recommended: Yes, if you're looking for a Chinese-themed high fantasy epic with political elements.

Oreimo... I wish the last OVA never existed or was committed to the entire concept presented in the show...COMPLETELY ruined the show for me because of this.
