Name of Anime - Death Note

Comment/Review - A truly godly series. Amazing, though incredibly dark, story. Excellent music. Engaging characters. Masterful suspense that made me want more after each episode. And an ending that I didn't see coming. A perfect anime.

Rating - 10/10

Anime: Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin

I really enjoyed this show and am glad I got around to it. Had good story, great drama, good animation, great characters, good music (both the opening and ending were fricken awesome!) and there were times I got a little emotional. Am surprised by the fact that not a lot of people talk about this show. Easily one of the most underrated shows I have seen.

Name of Anime: The Pet Girl of Sakurasou

Comment / Review: It had an extremely light setting which I found pleasant to watch from start to finish, and wasn't consumed by a vying harem or anything. Very solid for the slice of life genre, and very unique from my experience with the genre. I definitely don't recommend it to people who only watch anime like Naruto or Bleach for action and the like, but I thought the pacing was great for a two-season show, and I wasn't left unsatisfied or bored at the end. Bear in mind that I'm not the kind of person who'll slap a 9 or 10 on anything I found remotely pleasing.

What impressed me the most was the light-hearted, playful interaction, the pacing, and the almost childish animation style that was exceedingly heart-warming.

Just finished Guin Saga:

I felt it was really good, had a lot of potential to be a long running anime but it since it was cut short I guess it was a little disappointing. It is really sad to hear the author of the series died so that might be why the anime stopped, hopefully they choose to continue it or remake it in the future even though the story is incomplete I hear that there are a lot more content to the story.

Name of Anime: Hakushaku to Yousei
Comment/ Review: I actually liked it! Being a fan of the supernatural and the fantasy genres of anime, this one was a great one to watch. It is unfortunate that they didn't make more seasons for it. They just left the story unfinished.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Season 1

Comment/Review: I finally finished another backlogged show!! After all these months!! Hopefully this starts a good trend. Let's make this review a thorough one.

Premise: (not spoilers, just lengthy)
Mainly, the show is about Setsuna F. Seiei and his teammates at Celestial Being (who have the only 4 Gundams in the world), as they intervene in the world's various wars. Along the way, they come to terms with their own personal problems and the extreme methods which they use to try and change the world. Is the eradication of war what Celestial Being is truly after, and are the main characters really playing the role they think they are?

Learn all about why war is absolute hell and what it means to be Gundam today!

Characters: What follows from the premise is what easily could have been a bogged down plot that trails off and goes nowhere fast, but the show stays remarkably coherent throughout. Despite the mass of characters and action scenes, Gundam 00 is surprisingly emotionally engaging. The series is character-driven, so where they are and what they are doing at all times is always important to consider. It's fun to try and decipher some foreshadowing from this as the plot moves forward. The characters themselves are also well done. They all have personality, and some have emotional depth to back it all up. Just don't expect them to live, or be happy, because that doesn't happen very often lol

Story/Themes: The story is amazing, but man it gets really dark sometimes >_> The main theme of this story is easily this: War is bad. Super deep, I know, but the series is all too good at bringing this point across. No matter what benefits may be gained, no matter what profits can be won or what ideals you may embody, war is bad. People will die and people will be sad. With that said, the show manages to be fun to watch. The unique characters and their interactions throughout the story save the viewer from being apathetic towards the plot events and the ideas expressed. There is also a fair share of twists and turns to keep you on your feet. There may be wild cards that you weren't suspecting, some hints of fantasy or a grander scale, etc. It all adds to the chaos and works in the series' favor.

Animation: The animation is good, for what it's worth (hard to find a good quality stream...). The style makes me happy. Lots of mechs and very little CG, just how it should be. The action scenes are plentiful and awesome, though some can be overly theatrical and sacrifice realism to force a plot point through, but it's all good otherwise.

Music: I liked the music. It's not very subtle, but it takes a lot for me to really notice a musical score, and this show succeeded. A couple of tracks I thought were extra creative.

Rating: 10/10 (<<< this is probably personal bias speaking, but Gundam 00 is always a highly recommended installment of the series. I'm glad I'm watching it.)

Recommend? Most definitely.

Starting Season 2 soon.

And I fuckin' loved it even if it's really short. It's one of the funniest anime I've ever seen and all the senseless violence was awesome.

Rating: 10 out of 10 if you're looking for a laugh.

I'd definitely recommend it.

Majutsushi Orphen:

Comment / Review: This was... quite good, actually. 24-episode fantasy shounen from 1998, but with its head on straight and not up its ass. There were a couple dedicated humor insert characters, which is something I'm not too much of a fan of, but it was the 90s. I liked Orphen, he came across as pretty adult and mature protagonist. There's also a great overarching story to the season that linked together mostly episodic adventures, which led to a great finish.

I also have a thing for femme fatales, so I LOVED Azalie's storyline. Which was also the overarching storyline, which was also concluded very well. This series also has a recurring transgender side character, which I can only give major props to. I didn't have any bones to pick with the animation, although some episodes were obviously better than others (especially the finale). In the end it's a well-executed shounen with solid characters and very nice development.

Rating: 6/10 (-2 if you can't bear the gag comedy, +1 if you're also a fan of femme fatales or fantasy settings).
Recommended: Sure. It's not a must-watch but it holds up just fine (if you can find it).

The Sequel: No comment as of yet, feels a bit tacked-on since the first season was so self-contained.
