Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199

This is a reboot of the 1974 TV Series Uchuu Senkan Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato). It's also known in English as Space Cruiser Yamato. In 1978, this was Americanized as Star Blazers.

Show Description:Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199

10 minutes of the opening episode, the famous Battle of Pluto, has been posted to YouTube.

Mostly I'm curious what people think of the new reboot that is hitting theaters this week. I'm really looking forward to it.

Weird. I was trying something out, but I never clicked on post.

Anyway, I was going to share this Youtube video of the first 10 minutes of the reboot:

It's choppy, but has the Battle of Pluto in it. The update is looking great, imo.

Same here. This show is still near and dear to my heart. After nearly 40 years, it holds up surprisingly well--yes, I'm biased. :D

The reboot looks great. It keeps a lot from the original, including music! Everything looks more modern and realistic.

I'm hoping this classic will get new life since a lot of the younger audience avoids older shows, with good reason.

Agreed Me too! A lot of my enthusiasm goes back to when I would run home from school to see what day they were on and if they were going to make it. Having seen other Japanese stuff and how it was almost honorable to kill everyone off.. there was a literal tension hoping they made it.. as opposed to the whole mission going bad and one person coming back and everyone crying at their funeral.. LOL I kept saying "omg they better not kill (x person)".. and was happy when they didn't. I'd be counting down how many days they had left..

I actually watched "Star Blazers" recently on Netflix (they only have season 1 which I assume is the basis of this movie) since my VHS collection is collecting dust somewhere.. LOL and I couldn't help but laugh at a lot of the bad dub.. but still.. I loved it when I was a kid. I have since seen a lot of the original (Youtube) to see what they cut out. I'm still not used to the name changes. I didn't see the Live action simply because so much of the story was changed. This seems to be a real tribute to the original without changing the core components.

I'm still partial to Comet Empire (Season 2) as "Tralayna" was my favorite character

This reboot is based on the 1st season, Quest For Iscandar. I've seen a post that indicates they plan to reboot the 2nd season, Comet Empire as well.

The Star Blazers version of both seasons, as well as half of the 3rd, The Bolar Wars, are available on Hulu.

Oh man.. if they are planning on doing Comet Empire.. my sister and I are going to lose our marbles..

Thanks for the links. Out of all of three series.. I watched Comet Empire substantially more than Iscandar. I only watched Bolar when it first premiered back in the early 1980's. Philly area was one of the rare areas they even showed it. I remember watching it and not liking it that much. Haven't seen it since.

You're welcome. I agree about Comet Empire. I hope that if it is done and dubbed they do a better job with Treylana's voice.

And you can skip The Bolar Wars. It still isn't very good. It is easily the worst of the entire franchise. On the plus side, the movie version is much better, but those aren't available for streaming anymore.

LOL Part of the mystique with Tralayna's voice was that it sounded so eerie.. or as if she's speaking on top of a washing machine on spin cycle.. Stil though.. everything about her was so damn cool when I was a kid Especially her death line "I'm going to return you to the cosmos"..

I'll watch Bolar at some point just for completionist sake I did watch most of the movies on Netflix before they were pulled. I remember being a little confused since they were all in Japanese with names I didn't recognize. That said I have no issues with the changes to what I remember just still getting used to it

I nearly cried seeing that trailer. Silly, I know. But it was such a nostalgia trip. I cant count the number of times I skipped sunday school to watch Starblazers. lol

I will wet myself with happiness if they remake all three seasons. :D

Like everyone else in this thread, I am totally biased towards this show. Even though Starblazers sucked ass compared to the original, it was such a big part of my early childhood and the... ignition point, of my love for Anime.

So question. This is only a movie of the first 2 episodes? Are they gauging interest to see if they are going to do a series? or is a Series greenlit? I'm a bit confused as to how this is going to work out.
