Sometimes a series just takes a while to get up steam. Sad but true.

and you can't really expect people to sit it out on the vague promise that it might get good later, so I don't blame anyone who drops a series at it's start. But I do encourage people to keep in mind that the way a series starts isn't always the same as what it becomes.

For example, I couldn't stand Reborn when I started on it, the only reason I stuck with it was because I accidentally clicked on the most recent episode instead of the one I was going to watch next. I was fortunate enough to see where the series was going to go as opposed to a series about a kid who ends up in his underwear a lot. So I sat it out

It took 20 episodes of underwear jokes and bloody Lambo, before it got good but after that point I really enjoyed it.

you are perfectly within your rights to give up on a series, but should Medaka Box get another run of episodes I encourage you to give it another look, the nature of the series really dose change after Chapter 20 of the Manga (which will be about episode 9 or10 of the Anime)

Stating something like, "I gave up on shows in far less time like Code Geass 2 mins" makes it sound like you are simply unreasonable. I checked to confirm my memory, and 2 minutes would have barely gotten you past the narrated segment that set up the backstory.

The only reason I could see anyone giving up a series that quickly is if they simply couldn't tolerate the character designs and/or animation style, as those would be unlikely to change.

I only gave up so fast because I was never interested in Code Geass in the first place, animation styles doesn't really bother me much but I did find everyone a bit too much on the stringy side.

I agree with this.I tried getting into Reborn, but I found the 1st few chapters to be nothing more than gags,no story whatsoever.I found out the manga takes 60 chapters to get to what makes Reborn Reborn (in the anime they split the 1st arc up into 3 parts throughout the series).
And I might as well pull out the One Piece card.Look at how many people went from struggling through the 1st 50 episodes, after the Arlong arc you either hooked or wasting your time. Most people are hooked.

With Episode 9 we get our first glimpse of the real Medaka box series and it's just a glimpse really but it dose mark a significant change in the mood of the series.

They did clean up Unzen's first big scene a little though

We're finally here!

Though, it's a shame that they watered down the violence in the music room a bit, and overdramatized Medaka's running around the school..
Otherwise, they did good.

Episode 9

God damn, this episode was bloody amazing imo. For those who already dropped this series, I feel sorry for you now Why? Because Medaka does what she does best and that's kicking ass:

Chairman Unzen:

Yup, she earned my respect this episode with those inhuman moves.

Regardless though, this episode lies the smackdown and one at that with bloody action.

Still, though, my satisfaction was served.

yeah from here they just keep ramping the Action up. Class 13 is just full of monsters and every one of them wants a piece of Medaka.

I can't wait until arcs/seasons 2, and 3 are animated.

This, (which wasn't in the manga, but was in the anime), shows that they're itching to animate those arcs aswell.

Spoiler'd for size:

I just hope they continue this to its natural conclusion (chapter 140 of the manga).

I saw earlier in this thread that some people don't like the cliches and tropes that are present, which is fine, however this series has a point that they are aiming for, and it become apparent why the series needed all the tropes and cliches once it gets there, however it will be the fourth season (assuming 13 episodes per season) when the real series will show itself.

It does remain a battle series up to the end of season 3, at which point it becomes less about fighting and FAR FAR more psychological and analytical and uses much of what come before to create a tale that is better than (pretty much) anything in its genre.
I advise you (anybody) to read the manga from chapter 19 (where the anime is currently at) to chapter 140 and you will get exactly what the series is aiming for, you will also see the reason why things are running as they are in the anime.

As as aside, if anyone has read the manga and knows of any series that are similar to this I'd appreciate you making some suggestions.

yep, episode 9 is when things get real, or at least around where the manga makes the genre shift
so I'm excited to see what they do with the last 3 episodes of the possible first season
Here's to hoping that we get more seasons to cover more of this epic manga!

The stuff with Kumagawa sure does smack things around a bit, but my favorite character is Naze, so I can't wait to see her animated. (She'll technically be in the 12th episode, but barely.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just can't wait until a good portion of this series is animated, even if they slightly change a few things when adapting the manga into an anime.

I found the interaction between Medaka and Shiranui many many times more interesting than stereotypical senselessly evil endboss #74293874.

I wanna see more about *that* ><

Well that's because Shiranui is a much more interesting character (bless her black loli heart). Unzen is more to show That there is something wicked going on in this school and get the ball rolling on the main plot. The interesting villains happen later in the series (Kumagawa is a wonderful bad guy).

Shiranui remains a wonderful constant thorn in Medaka's side. She's hard to classify as a friend or enemy but when Medaka puts together a team of people she knows aren't going to get killed going into what she knows is going to be a blood bath, Shiranui is one of the ones she picks.
