I'm writing now because there's something I want to tell you, Ritsuko-chan. A friend of mine from back home got married at a church, and in a photo of the ceremony that she sent me, there's a priest who resembles Sentaro-san. I'm not sure of it, but thought it would be worth looking into. The church is on a small island, so it should be easy to find. I just wrote this postcard to let you know. If you find anything out, please write back. Yours truly, Yukari Fukahori Thanks! It's great to see what it actually said. It's not subtitled here on CR, so I had to go with what I could figure out. |

That's odd. I just watched it on CR, and that's where I saw the subtitled version. But I was watching via Roku, so I just went back to check by watching on my computer, and now I see what you're saying. The translation really is in the subtitle position when watched that way, and you can only see the first line. That's a bummer. |

deadpanditto thanks for that man.
Final Episode It was wonderful ,sad and I love the ending. I will have to finish reading the manga. But thank goodness they didnt show how low Kaoru has gotten. It was hurting me when I saw him did to what he did to all hid Jazz records and transcritions in the maga. It was pretty painful as a musician. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide I love to see how Sentaro looks so mature and I love Kaoru's long hair of the seventies. He looks pretty cool with long hair ha haha. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Eight years. Kaoru became a medical resident physician and Sentaro became a priest in training, the chatholic seminary takes a long time too. He must have finished his high school somehow. Well I got my Art Blakey Moanin vinyl record this afternoon as I watched the anime. I am excited !!!Now I can really cosplay as Kauro at Anme Expo |

I decided to put my comments into spoiler blocks, just in case...
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide The ending was both good and slightly disappointing. I realize that the primary "relationship" in the show was Karou and Sen, and I applaud the show for daring to have a story that shows what usually happens to high school sweethearts, but I would have preferred a little bit more closure with Ri-chan and Karou than just a smile and blush! (Like an ending montage with the ED showing Sen officiating their wedding, baptizing their first born, and the two guys playing Jazz on open stage nights at clubs while continuing their respective careers.) As it is, it was a bit of a letdown compared to the earlier episodes. In addition, the fact that Karou fails to deal with Sens departure, messes up what could have been a great relationship with Ri-chan, and ends up graduating high school with no more social graces or self confidence than he had coming in as a transfer student is disappointing. Slice-of-life character drama needs to have character development in order to fully succeed. Ri-chan developed, but Sen and Karou didn't until the "8 years later" crap! In the middle, they seemed to have grown as friends and as men, but by the last episode all of that character growth was shown to be just illusion and they both were the same immature little boys that started out the story. In a way, the ending took what could have been one of my favorite shows of all time and turned it into merely a solidly entertaining series that with a mediocre ending, at least in my opinion. (Don't get me wrong, I will buy the dang thing on BluRay if I get the chance, for the music if nothing else, but it may be a year or two down the road if there is something else coming out around the same time that I want more. I agree with Zensunni.
This is the second anime to actually make me cry. I don't know why but I felt so attatched to the characters, and it seriously hurt when they all went their seperate ways. I cannot wait for this to come out on Blu-Ray. |

Exactly what a slice-of-life should be. A little something to make you sad, a little something to make you happy.

Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide YokuramaTalks wrote: The final episode was perfectly done for it being a 12 episode series. There is nothing that they could have done better except extending this series to 24 episodes but they worked with what they had and they did an amazing job! Sen and Karou are just great friends that even after 8 years of not seeing each other they can still have their regular conversations through their jam sessions... best anime of 2012 so far - masterpiece! Boy I thought I was going to one of the only ones (judging from the comments on this page and the episode 12 comments). I mean I had no idea how things were going to play out but I knew it was going to be 12 episodes so I thought for the amount of time they were given it was excellently done! All around I'd give it 9.5 out of 10 (avoiding my own personal score) and with a re-watch down the line I can see that number going up. The way I knew it was good is that I was speaking to my laptop (almost yelling) and making gestures with my hands and arms. I don't think many people understand that they were practically speaking to each other with their music. Ohh well. I loved it. |

I finally finished reading the manga. The anime changed a lot of the ending from the manga , skipped a few chapters. Although I liked the perspective of Kaoru as he looked for Sen back in town and the reunioun. The anime went to part of chapter 44 and 45 .
I like the manga though because its went on detail about Kaoru's life after high school , how he ended back with jazz and how it ended and the decision he made ,and it all ties up to the sakamichi. Cant wait to collect this series. |

I just ran across this great analysis comparing Kids on The Slope to Watanabe's other works, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.
http://madelineashby.com/?p=1253 Obviously there are spoilers for all 3 series. |
