I loved the episode today! It's such a nice combo with Kimi ni Todoke. We're seeing how misunderstandings affect potential special someones on two different sides of the spectrum.

I agree with you chrome_mist in regards to Yurika. Since she is now part of the opening of the series, she'll end up being also part of the band. Watch her be lead singer - ha!
I hate and love triangle romances. This seems to have started out with lots of angst.
However, the show itself is great. I love the artistry which is why I love anime compare to "cartoons". I love the music. I hope the couples get straighten out.
What I do not understand is how one can make an assumption that this show is yaoi when I have yet seen any indication that it is. My only wonder is what they had plan to do to the young man once they took off his pants. Other than taking his pants so he is pant less or hurting his private areas, how can that scene be taken as yaoi? I guess people see what they want to see.  |

I don't see this as yaoi at all. Sure, there was that scene in episode one, but that seemed more like an awkward introduction than anything else.
In any case, I love this show. Its great to watch a show aimed at the adult crowd. Where we are treated with some intelligence and patience. For example: when Kaoru catches Sentaro modeling for Yurika. As the viewer we are only shown what Kaoru sees. So, unless you've read the manga, the audience is free to take whatever implications they want from said scene. I really appreciate that. I get sick of anime that beats the viewer over the head with obvious plot points. Or that stoops to juvenile humor to make a scene like that funny. Now, I will say that it was pretty predictable that Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Ritsuko would be jealous of Yurika's developing relationship with Sentaro. However, when Kaoru confessed his feelings to Ritsuko by the end of episode 3, I was grinning, pumping my fist in the air. It's exciting to see a protagonist who has some guts. You go, boy! |

I was shock than I screamed Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide when Kaoru kissed Ritsuko! He has guts. I never would have expected Kaoru to be assertive.
I also cried then they Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide recalled Sentarou's upbringing. Sometimes I wish we were all color blind, I think the world would be a better place.
So I wonder are the Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide kids that are with Sentarou really his brothers and sister? It seems that there were no relations between his mother and father. I often wonder why in Japanese anime and movies, the parents just abandoned their children forcing the child to grow up fast or for the community to care for the child.

Great episode, it covered all the important aspects and delivering it well. I finally understand why Chrome thinks Yurika is a bitch. Uggh, hate her now as well.

i dropped this since the 2nd and 3rd episode,,,
it wasn't what i expected.
i expect more from the music, not the lovey dovey romance!
which is really SUCKS, when i heard someone said love pentagon in other forums.

of course its not just about JAZZ , its about Sakamichi no Apollon.
LIke anything about life Jazz is turbulent yet together, sweet and cool and crazy . with lots of different twist and turns and creativity. Jazz in this anime is a symbolism The characters are connected together because of JAZZ.
Whats a story without human connections , its boring. Its a documentary . Its a learning instructional video .
Thats why I like this title a lot because it created a balance between friendship, love and music. Kinda like sex,drugs and rock and roll.
Episode 4 But Not for Me . Was very good. Sentaro opening up himself more to Kaoru kun was very touching. And Suwabe san singing as Jun-nii was enchanting , but I cant tell if its really Suwabe san singing though he he he.
Its fun learning these Jazz legends which I have heard their music but never knew who played them , Chet Baker was really something. HIs music was considered COOL jazz, West coast JAzz. It was either hit or miss for him .And Dying on May 13 1988, from falling off from his hotel window while holding on to his horn .
The timeline of this title is different as well.
THis title can be made into a quality movie
Ginkou-san ... thank you for that image , I kinda have the same impression for Jun-nii but he was pretty blunt about thinking her as a you know what
Macht-gut , you know I wonder about that too.
My father had a Japanese woman during the Korean War almost the same year Sentaro was born ... well he wasnt white so the son looked like a normal Japanese but the mother did not gave him up . He actually caries my father's last name which sounds pretty Japanese anyway. Sentaro is not like my half way older Japanese brother though.
