Matsunaga Takashi is one of the pianist Youko Kanno got to play some of the jazz piano pieces in the anime for example Moanin , Easy Wltz and the bunkasai duo piece.Well he is not just a jazz pianist ...ha ha ha

Here is Matsunaga san or sensei

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPfp1kbwL4E&feature=related

Furakawa Masayoshi did the vocals of the Chet Baker rendition of the song " But not for Me". I only find this other song by him

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuaJlK6qUNU

In the soundtract they changed the tempo of the song . It doesn't sound like the "cool Jazz" of that time but in the anime was actually better.

And here is Ruike Shinpei on trumpet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R0qoUryK-M&feature=relmfu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzjEw6klwI8

Also for Lullaby of Birdland , the Japanese singer singing it is Teshima Aoi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIvZGc7mxhc

but her rendition of the song is too whispery and I have a problem with that since I know female jazz singers, like my singing teacher.
Oh well..

I like this gal better

I cant wait to see the next part animated , more heart achy moments between Sentaro and Kaoru

Sentai, take my money. Just give me the DVDs.

Even if the rest of the series gets botched, that's OK. I've seen enough that I love it.

Episode 7 Now's the Time
This contain spoiler if you havent seen the episode yet.

I am so stoked !!!
Even though they cut some parts from the manga and modified some parts , the flow was still pretty good. I cant beleive they reached the bunkasai volume already and I was hoping , since this past weekend that they would use the entire 3 min 39 seconds of the duo'd performance. And they did !!!

I started cracking up when Nobuhiko's character was singing the Spider's song Hey Boy dang , he sounded so dang cute....even though i hate his character he he he he

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch2q3e43W8k

and they picked that song and to cut it off... the you know what ... ha ha ha ha. The animation was awesome. I knew they cant animated the entire 3 min 39 minutes of the duet , but it was stilll pretty good and I am satisfied...

Also its not Yokko who is playing that piece it is Matsunaga Takashi :), it looks like they also even copied his movement for Kaoru.
The interpretation of the songs was based on how it was written in the manga and I can feel it from his performance. This anime has got to be one of the best music an anime ever had.
The animation of the drumming is awesome. They have YAMAHA label on it so I assume they must gotten approval and funding from them .Its an promotion. I remembered when K-ON got one of the KORG organ sales up the roof.

This episode filled with so much emotional tension that yhe build up and the release in the end was amazing,

KImura's work as Kaoru is amazing that I hope he wins an award for this .

i have watched it so many times now

and Yes..... I want the BluRay NOW !!!!!!![/blu

Ah, the things we do to our friends simply because we don't talk. Still, that conflict was essential for Sentarou's and Kaoru's performance to come together like that. You could feel their emotions in that duet. And Ritsuko's comment about the two princes arguing emphasized the point.

This show is shaping up to be a masterpiece. This episode was the culmination of great character building. The resolution put a huge smile on my face. Great jazz can do that, and this show has it in spades.

Agreed, I think all the different aspects brought to in the series, not just the music (but I've always been a jazz fan) have been brought together to give it real depth. It is a masterpiece and I can't wait to see where the story goes next.

It's a shame we are only getting 12 episodes. On the other hand, I'd prefer to have a 12 episode masterpiece than a longer running series that runs out of ideas.

I haven't read any of the manga, so I don't know how much has been adapted so far. Perhaps if the anime sells well we will get another season.

There are 9 volumes released, the last one was in April in Japan.

Episode 7 covered about less than 2/3 of Volume 5.

They skipped some details like about Kaoru's Mom reason why she left him in volume 4 he actually wanted to ask her why and how Sentaro learn and got the drums.

So I hope they somehow add those in the story somewha

Yeah the soundtract it is pretty good, if you are in the US , I see some seller via Amazon.

But I sure I want to collect this anime, so tthe BluRay would be great. Dang, now I want to make the uniform. Must work on it today so I can cosplay as Kaoru ,even though its summer ha ha ha.

Shun Ishikawa is the drummer and there no video of him drumming but since Matsunaga Takashi is a pretty well known in the music world, so there are videos of him in his concert.
I am a drumming enthusiast too so I really want to see those skills man... of Shun.

Also i wondered why my Favorite Things was chosen and then I looked it up , and its actually John Coltrane who made a jazz interpretation of that Rogers and Hammerstein song in an album released in 1961 titled My Favorite Things .

Aside from the music, I think the seiyuu has done an awesome job . Kimura's work as Kaoru is just amazing and I hope he wins for this role. He is pretty busy this season , taking on 4 anime. His delivery are not forced at all.

SEntaro is Yoshimasa Hosoya , he is also a newer seiyuu he has been taking a lead role since 2011 with No.6 , a role in Chihayafuru but his performance here is better with this Kyushu accent.. Some of my friends didn't like his delivery with a Kansai accent there because he sounded asif he is thinking how to delivers his line but here he is better and it flows more naturally. .He is from Hiroshima.

Suwabe san is very sexy as Jun-nii and he has the same first name as the character .. but not over the top either , the most senpai in the group; I think he seem to able pull off the accent well and some voice actors can and some cant .I know that for a fact

But the one that gave me the strongest impression the most is Zenki Kitajima , ,the Mukae shop owner. His delivery seem to be very different and I believe he is an actor and not a seiyuu and he is from Nagasaki which one of the is in the southern most part of Japan , I find his delivery very natural. I actually like listening to his lines.

Yuuka Nanri who is Rit-chan is also from Nagasaki , so they seem to have picked seiyuu from the Kyushu region. Her accent is as strong as as Kitajima.

ps when I woke up this morning I had a dream and Morita san was in it and we were chatting at his booth in a hotel and I was cosplaying and no one seem to notice him.

I keep seeing comments that this is "Yaoi" . As of yet I haven't any hard evidence(subtle hints yes), so until then this is not yaoi so please stop saying it.

If it does turn into yaoi, I will forever reject this series and cry in a corner.

I have seen those comments too , .

Although the manga was targeted toward or categorized as Josei , The manga won the Shogakukan Manga Award for the General category , so I it is safe to say that it is not a BL anime whatsoever ha ha ha.

Indeed the two has a very strong bond now that is much like brothers. And the mangaka has drawn very emotional moments between the two. and since the mangaka is female, they tend to put their own emotions into the character whether be male or female.Same as BL mangaka are mainly female,
