I keep seeing comments that this is "Yaoi" . As of yet I haven't any hard evidence(subtle hints yes), so until then this is not yaoi so please stop saying it.

If it does turn into yaoi, I will forever reject this series and cry in a corner.

I have seen those comments too , .

Although the manga was targeted toward or categorized as Josei , The manga won the Shogakukan Manga Award for the General category , so I it is safe to say that it is not a BL anime whatsoever ha ha ha.

Indeed the two has a very strong bond now that is much like brothers. And the mangaka has drawn very emotional moments between the two. and since the mangaka is female, they tend to put their own emotions into the character whether be male or female.Same as BL mangaka are mainly female,

I don't know any of the genres you just mentioned. I'll go look them up though. But seriously, I have a friend who's like a brother to me and we never give each other those looks lol. But if it's geared towards women like you say than I guess I can understand... >.>

ah sumanai ...Josei is meant for the ladies ha ha

also Kaoru is drawn in very soft angles, quiet feminine for my taste

Even if it does turn into BL for whatever reason, I think this show could still pull it off. I really hope they divulge more into the jazz and what it means to all of the characters.

It is a little sad that they cut out a lot of stuff from the manga. Like's Kauro's mother's side of the story on why she left and didn't take Kauro with her. Not to mention Sentaro full background, including his mentor. But that's a minor gripe. This series honestly works better as a anime because you can hear the music and its more alive.

About those cut stories.

well I find the one about Kaoru's mother pretty important because he was wondering about that and I wonder too why would a mother just leave his son since we know a little about Sentaro's mother too .

REgarding Sentaro musical backgroupnd , that can be made into an anime on its own too without connecting it to the present story.line You just wonder how he learned how to drum and about those drums.

SPOILER: :: Back to the jazz music in the anime, basing on the soundtract there are 2 more Jazz pieces for their jam sessions will be featured , it will be Four in trumpet and Milestone in piano which are both Miles Davis pieces .Since I don't have the other manga so I don't know when in the story it will come out, we got 5 more episodes to go. So Jun-nii will be in Four therefore it will be a quartet again while Milestone is only a trio

Now according to the soundtract info when you rip the CD, Matsunaga Takashi name is only on the credit of 3 songs Maonin,Easy Waltz and the Bunkasai Duo, although his name is written on the top part of the booklet " starring Mastunaga Takashi as Kaoru piano" while Kanno san name is on the credit of the other pieces.Somehow ,I can tell Matsunaga's style in comparison to Kanno san but i am not 100 % sure but my guess Kanno san played the other pieces however for Milesstone , i can feel its Matsunaga playing it.

.

So far these are the jazz classic they used

1. Moanin
by Bobby Timmons from ArtBlakey and the Jazz Messenger

2.Bag Groove
by Milt Jackson

3.Blowin the Blues Away

4.But not For Me

5. Someday My Prince Will come

6. My Favorite Thing
by John Coltrane
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UbszI-ju5w&feature=related
i believe the anime or mangaka jazz inspiration of this Rogers and Hammerstein song is from Coltrane.

So far we havent seen the jam sessions for this 2

1. Four
by Miles Davis

2. Milestone
by Miles Davis

Spoilers ok...
Episode 7
Is definitely my favorite episode because the resolution but I keep thinking about the details they omit from the manga.
For Example.
After Sentaro punched Jun-nii and seeing him that way, he was really torn becuase he really look up to Jun-nii. He was like his big brother to him and respected him.SEntaro was thinking about that during the practise with Seiji's band .
If I was not mistaken, Yurika was also remembering the moment Jun-nii actually kissed her at that time Rik-chan invited her down in the basement during the winter break when everyone else wasnt there.

During the duet , there is a part just before the transistion to the next song, Sentaro was actually drumming a bit strong as if he was apologyzing loudly with a smirk and Kauro noticed it . They were already fighting at that moment , so he responded by playing louder and with changing to the next song as if to say "Is that so ? OH Yeah ? Take this..." which caught Sentaro off guard which is why he made that face at around 18:31 and then they started quarelling like kids or prince as Rit-chan puts it...i think they want the least lines during the duo so the audience aka
" us" can concentrate on the performance.

I am also though about the time , we knew it was around the begining of school when Kaoru got angry at the clamming, then July during John Coltranes death and bunkasai is around Sep,Oct, but they are alreadty wearing their gakuran uniform but some are not so the second term is just starting , my guess its got to be around September.

@iashakezula I've fallen even more in love with this anime after finding out Yoko Kanno is involved with the music. She's a living legend. I love her music.

Thanks for listing that site.

Welcome welcome...I am just very excited about this anime so much and since I havent read the rest of the manga , I am a little afraid what the ending will be. Its too much drama.

Apisode 8
ha ha ha.. all the parts in the manga that I thought they skipped are actually in this episode ha ha ha.

But there us actually a scene on top of the roof after they ran away.... where Sentaro actually confides to Kauro about his rejection ... dang that scene would have been funny ... Oh well.

I got also excited when I saw the Miles Davis album !!!! wohoo.. they will be playing that soon !!

This is the only other show besides NANA where I've seen so much realistic tension and yearning in the relationships of its main characters.

One of my favorite aspects of the show is seeing the dynamic of Junichi's and Sentaro's relationship change and the affects it has on everyone else (Yurika, Ritsuko and Tsutomu (Ritsuko's father)). Seeing someone you look up to have their own problems and be hesitant about their choices can be one of the most confusing and gut-wrenching things you go through when growing up and seeing how those two are going to resolve their differences is going to be special.

Obviously, don't know where the series will go from here but you can be sure that it's going to be touching and rewarding when all is said and done.

I've honestly been waiting for that moment. It makes me want to scream and yell at my computer knowing what it feels like to have so much bottled up inside and having someone want to talk to you.

This anime should definitely be nominated for best animated show of 2012. Or whatever the relevant title is.
