At this point in life, not too much surprises me anymore. No matter how weird, insane, or outrageous it is, someone else has already done it, is doing it right now, or is seriously thinking about doing it. I've never heard of a drool fetish, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that such a thing has real-life practitioners somewhere out there. I don't particularly care to know any more about it either. As it is, I'm watching this show thinking the drool is meant to be somehow symbolic of something deeper (of what, it remains to be seen). I hope so, anyway.

To be fair, I wouldn't say the MC has a drool fetish. Maybe the author does, but the MC doesn't. On an urge/whim he tries Urabe's drool and things kind of go from there. You can say he made a dumb choice--we've all made those--but it isn't like he seeks out drool.

He did have his own kind of Freak out moment when he realized what he had just done

but plenty of Teenage boys have bouts of "WTF was I just doing?" when it comes to cute girls.

I've seen worse in RL

Teen age boys are crazy, stupid and can be turned on by a pair of Apples

Ain't that the truth! I mentioned somewhere along the line on one of these many forums I have been posting about* that one of the things this show makes me think about is the lengths and depths of weirdness teenage boys will go to when they are attracted to a pretty girl. Almost every man that is on the hairy side of puberty has had at least one serious "WTF did I just do?" moment that relates to the raging hormones of those teenage years. Either that or they are termanally boring or, more likely, in denial. Sure, it might not be as extreem as licking a girl's drool off her desk at school, but I bet most of us can identify one or two times that they did something approaching that weird, at least if viewed from another person's perspective!

*[and yes, frankly advocating for people to watch MGX since there are so many "Ewwwww Gross! What kind of sicko would watch this $#!%!!!!" posts. I feel that there is a need to put out the positive vibes as well. Let the people that haven't watched yet see that not everyone lacks the intestinal fortitude to watch the show!]

Agreed, though I don't think, in the long run, his choice was so dumb. Mikoto Urabe is one heck of a catch, if he can hold on for the ride! Its gonna be a bumpy one!

I though Water Balloons were a sure fire way to get my first Crush to notice me.

Did not work out as well as I had hoped.

Looking back on it, had I only used 1 it might have worked out better.

Using the entire pack of 25 was probably coming on too strong

LOL! yep, that is probably a bit "excessive'! I don't know if I can say some of the stuff I did... statute of limitations and all that... LOL! ;)

Suffice it to say that MGX is a seinen show, and as an "advanced seinen genre citizen" I find it absolutely wonderful!

I still vaguely remember an ass kicking and being somewhat resentful that she didn't recognize how cool I was.

My nephew just turned 11 today.... Within the next few years I am going to hear about him doing something stupid to get a Girl's attention and I am going to laugh so hard.

A mysterious drooling girlfriend. What could be better? I'm loving this series so far. Urabe is a very compelling and intriguing character and Tsubaki is believable as an MC.

EDIT: For those of you that are grossed out by the drool licking, a certain Night Shift Nurses quote comes to mind.

Episode 3

So, episode begins with this:

Next:

It seems there will be some rivals in this story:

Ukabe gives him a little test and the result is:

The glorious bloody nose scene and there's a good reason for it. The test that Ukabe creates a "bond" between people so now,

they understand each others' feelings.

Cute ending and great episode.

It's really odd. My friend keeps recommending it so I have no choice, but to watch. Don't get me wrong I always watch at least 2-3 episodes before I call quits on the anime.

I read the manga awhile ago, I was really looking forward to the anime.
It turned out to be really good, I like that they've stuck really close to the style (even though I don't like the style all that much) but I love the way they did the whole panty scissors thing XD but for some reason, in the anime the drool seems a lot more weird?

EDIT: Urabe's voice is nothing as I was expecting, I was expecting her voice to be drawling, but I actually quite like the voice they chose.

Urabe understands boundary (look it up in a psych book if you're unsure about the term) and has developed some interesting stratagems to determine if a guy is really interested in her or a waste of time. Tsubaki, you lucky bastard, is slowly learning the technique. Sado-masochism, that's what I remember the early stages of dating as (regardless of subject age and enlightenment)`. This story writer wonderfully illustrates the cognitive aspects of those fears, illusions, delusions we experience trying to gauge where we fit in the other person's world.

I can't read Japanese so I'll have to be content with an episode a week watching this "enchanting" (and it is just that) tale drip, drip, drip all its pearls of wisdom in the telling. It's been fun to watch.

Signals: Tsubaki, good thing you accepted the candy this time. That action was very significant. Nose bleed....LOL, so funny.

Yes! Exactly!

[What follows is entirely hearsay, but if true, it is a) awesome and b) explains a lot about the direction the story is taking]
I read somewhere that Ueshiba-sensei's initial idea was to have Urabe be some sort of descendant of a mystic sect of some sort, with a complicated back story, but his editor nixed the idea, saying something to the effect of: "Why have such a complicated story. The teenage girl is always a mystery to the teenage boy!"

Looking at it that way, the story is quite simple. The supernatural/psychometric drool part of the story just adds to the mystery, but even without it, she would still be mysterious to our poor, hapless protagonist...

There are places to read the manga, if you really want to... I'm starting to wish I hadn't though. It takes some of the thrill out of it...

the who spit swap thing is the selling point but a repulsing point none the less makes the anime awkward
