Why do people actually hate anime?

Yep, as many have said, it's a matter of understanding. Plus kids in grade school tend to be very pliable to the opinions of others. In my experience, it's not so much they hate it as they think it's weird. Although that was just the case in high school for me. I've found that people that are around my age tend to not really care about anime, they've got the things that they like to do, so it doesn't really factor in. Although maybe if I hung out with the frats it might be a different story. hmm...

Because it make them look like geeks... from what I see...
Anime causes its viewers to somewhat act like them, whether they act quiet and unsociable or happy go lucky and annoying. I act like one most times and all I get from the people around me are glares that stab... But like hell I care though, I know I'm not alone!

From my experience, it's usually the fans, not the anime. And to be honest, I have to agree.
I've noticed that a lot of us anime fans tend to act like a bunch of raging dorks.

^ This, at least I think so as well from a few personal experiences during college. Not saying it's the only reason people might anime, but for me it's up there as a top reason.

Three (now good) friends of mine, were a little wary of me when they found out I liked watching anime because of past experiences they had. I won't go into details, but 2 of them were freaked out by some hardcore anime fans back at their high school, that they started assuming all or most fans were that crazy. Of course, with my charming personality, I managed to change their opinions about anime fans and even managed to get one watching again. LOL

Because those people aren't smart enough to understand what the Anime is telling them. Or there just ignorant and say oh it's a 'Cartoon' so it's for kids.

I don´t know that many people, but the very few of them don´t care

Just like Larliet explained very Honest and Mature :"Usually they don't appreciate the art or the story line. They few it as "childish"..." and so on. Childish is a pretty good explanation.

My group of otaku tend to get teased about our likings, but I don't really understand why. What do you guys think?

Are yall the Otaku kids that walk around wearing naruto headbands, making hand signs, running with yall hands behind yall back, meowing like cats saying rawr and trying to act like anime characters and shit?

Those people were always weird to me and the main reason I never joined anime clubs at school, plus their were no cute girls in it

It's a common thing they use to shrug any interest in it. 'Oh, this stuff, I grew out of it when I was 12.'

These same fellows have little qualm in seeing some poor live-action films. But due to associating anime with elementary kids they feel like they're taking a step backwards from being grown-up.

Status quo of a mature person: I watch not cartoons, good day sir.

That's terrible thinking and not very grown-up. It's just another visual medium which is in most cases used to relay things a lot more adultly than most live-action films.

Stigma and word of mouth. Due to incorrect nonpolitical ideas in society views.

Just like World of Warcraft, or people who build model trains or Gundams. People believe a person should live a certain way, but in reality who is it to say if a person life is boring or not?

I don't know exactly why people hate anime but I fine with it since I have my likes and they their dislikes. Although I don't like that my teacher pointed out that 90% of anime is porn, he said it because my friends and I were talking close to him. I just didn't like that comment, I just don't like people making prejudice accusations on anything especially if it's part of my life.

I assume they are similar reasons to why I had a hard time getting into anime at first. Those being the animated overreactions of characters that did not seem to be appropriate, and things I had heard about anime from friends who barely had a passing knowledge of the topic.
