Why do people actually hate anime?
Posted 4/16/12
They have no idea what it is; they think it's car-toons If they found a genre they liked and started watching their attitude would change.

I have a few friends that don't like anime, not exactly hate it. But I ask them why and they reply honestly because they haven't really seen much of it. I always find that a good comedy anime will draw new people in.

They aren't as thin as paper and technology.

because people cant stand things being different. if something is "different" or "not normal" most people tend to hate on it. its a fear thing. they think it might get addicting and to make sure they don't become addictive they try to hate it as much as they can.

Thinking back to my school days, I was wondering why people hate anime so much. I mean, really, they're pretty cool, so what's to hate?

My group of otaku tend to get teased about our likings, but I don't really understand why. What do you guys think?

Anime is a type of art form which is different and unique. Usually when someone or something is different, that gives people a reason to discriminate, stereotype, and create fear about it. When people refuse to give chance to understand the matter and its background, the matter is seen as fear and grotesque. I have not found an individual to give a punctual and solid reason why they dislike anime therefore their argument is currently invalid.

It is easy for people to dislike and reject something than to agree and say yes. In similar relations, if you have ever noticed why the majority of the news that the media shares and talks about are almost always about negative and bad happenings, and rarely, maybe 1% out of the news something happy and heroic happens but that is only talked about for a few seconds then back to the bad news.

It's different from their "Norm". And it kinda sucks since half the time they have probably watched something on TV that can be considered Anime.

:I And people with "Different" tastes and such are looked down upon.....assholes....

that's why college is better.

In my opinion, it's the fans. If consumed in large quantities, it can do very weird things to your brain.

I had a group of friends that all liked anime but it didn't run their life. But then one or two of them got really obsessed with it. And I mean really obsessed with it.
Instead of speaking English, they would constantly refer to Japanese phrases and tone (Hello, I'm so sorry, Good morning, use honorifics, so cute! etc), only talk about anime and refuse to change the subject, purposely go out with people that looked similar to their favourite male characters in anime and all that malarkey.

I know that the anime community are eccentric in nature but there's a fine line between eccentric and just plain crazy.

Who hates it exactly? I mean I mostly know people that like anime or just say they aren't into it or don't get it. That doesn't mean they hate it.

As for people that say things like "Anime is only for kids you giant baby" or "All anime is porn for pedophiles", well, those people are trolling you to get a reaction...and you probably fall for it

I'm fairly obsessed with anime. It's all I do, and it's all I really care about. Ever since I started being absorbed in it in 2nd grade, ive been met with my fair share of fanboy-bashing. What do I do to combat it? Nothing, really. I don't really care. I love anime. I love everything about it, and I know that I do. I know that trying not to like it is virtually impossible. So, I shred the criticism like a snake. I'm content with everything about me, therefor I don't get defensive when a "hater" bashes on the thing I love most.

Kinda like religion: if your firm in your beliefs, you won't be easily aggravated when people try to bash it (I've been met with much of this as well due to me being an atheist).

Along with that, it's typically the people who have this mindset: Jersey Shore is the best TV show, Call of Duty is the best game ever, and Lil Wayne is the greatest rapper alive. Their manfuctured, easily changeable, open to manipulation, pop-culture lifestyle is way easier to make fun of than an otaku lifestyle.

It's normally people who don't even give anime a chance. If they actually watch a series similar to one of their favorite tv shows they might find interest in it .I used to hate anime many moons ago and always made fun of my friend until he loaned me his VHS of Ninja Scroll based on my fondness of martial arts movies. The rest is history now I attend conventions, Cosplay, and own so many Gundam items it's ridiculous.

Sorry to single you out, but this right here, is why a lot of people have problems with anime. It's not so much anime itself but when a person who isn't really familiar with anime gets into a conversation with an otaku, anime is the only thing they are interested in talking about.

There is nothing wrong with liking anime, but no single thing should be the ONLY thing you have going on in your life. If it is, you seriously need to branch out into some other things, because focusing on one thing is only going to hurt you in the long run

I'd beg to disagree. In terms of hobbies/likes/ect., how many of them does a person need? I do other stuff as well, but at the end of the day, do I care about it? Nope, not really. I have friends who aren't that big into anime, yet we still can have long conversations about different topics. I don't think I said in that post that it's all I talk about. I have other interests, but I don't love them like I do anime. I'm quite the sociable person, but when it comes down to it, I don't really care about much other stuff.

Note: I'm not getting defensive, but I believe there's a pretty firm difference in what were talking about.
