Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I've never met someone that said they hated anime. Some just prefer other things or don't watch it.
A lot of people I know at least like DBZ and a few shows they watched on Toonami as a kid.

Group conformity.

If society frowns upon anime, then you'll have the urge to conform.

From my experience it is based on prejudice.

I had two roommates my freshman year in college. One loved anime and one not so much.
The reason he didn't like anime is because he thinks its childish but he learned to love it by the end of the second semester even though he will not admit it to you.

Its simple really.

Different people have different perception on how they see things. Some may like what they see or dislike it. You can't possibly expects everyone to like the same thing as you do.

Of course , some other points were mentioned by other forum members and yes i agreed to some of them ;D

I say that the fandom is to blame. Movies get treated as a work of art by a majority of people but the anime fan base will settle for a moe blob show because she does cute things. Anime also breaks every rule they teach art student on how to draw humans.

That's a fair point, but I think it's more of a reaction against fandom and the fans.

I don't view that as a problem. A non-realistic style can be an effective play off the story. Do you read many comics? You can apply your complaint there as well, but I think "Maus" would be a less effective story if it was drawn realistically.

They lump it in with cartoons as baby stuff, also it seems to be cool for so called normals to hate on anime, even without knowing what it is. Also the very concept of hating anime is ridiculous and nearly impossible. To hate anime means to hate virtually every form of entertainment, as anime covers every genre you can think of and often many of them at the same time. Try asking those haters if they hate movies and tv, they say no obviously which is in direct conflict with earlier statements of hating anime. Therefore they are oxymoron's and that probably renders their existence null and void.

I would say that they don't have enough of an open mind, or it wasn't presented to them correctly.

They just don't get the fun and weirdness of anime. I really don't watch much American TV anymore because all it is is stupid shows like Jersey Shore where people are just having sex all day and it is just stupid. And people ask why i dont like american shows

Probably more to do with the people who actually watch it than the shows themselves. AN image of a 'fat, unwashed, dorky teen boy watching hentai' probably pops into people's heads when they think about anime. As well as the toy collecting and dressing up people associate with viewers.

And to be fair, a lot of it would seem to be childish, especially to people here. Like scenes where characters turn chibi when giving out or whatever and the humour in anime is usually quite bad, random shite happening may be hilarious in Japan, but not here.(I've yet to find a funny one that isn't just cringey).

As I've gotten older, I find I barely watch any anime at all now.

The older the anime fan the worst you get chided. Adults don't like adults that like anime.
My 33yr old son asks me when I am going to grow up
.

Face it, just get a thick skin and pay them no min

I see those people as being immature just because they don't like something other people do. But who cares, I like it and that's all that matters xD

It's because it's animated and people think animated work belongs to children. And I would also agree that it gets harder the older you get. When you get older people automatically assume it's hentai. Most anime I watch is more adult than most live action stuff I watch. People hate that which they do not understand.

I've never met anyone who claimed to hate anime, but I really only bring up anime around people I'm familiar with or people who I know also watch anime. I also work in an environment where the majority of my immediate coworkers are also geeks of some form, Star Trek, Stargate, Nintendo, Lord of the Rings, etc., so we actually have some pretty fun geek conversations. lol.
