What does everyone think of Crunchyrolls choices of anime to stream for this Spring? I, for one, am a bit disappointed. After all, how are you going to stream the first half of Fate/Zero and not the 2nd half? Same with Kore wa Zombie desu ka. These were 2 anime I was looking forward to watching on Crunchyroll this season. Guess I'll have to watch them elsewhere.

Look at the spring lineup page and you'll see they are streaming the second half of Fate/Zero.

Too disappointing. CR must be kidding about this. I was really hoping for the second season of Kore wa Zombe desu ka and it never came although the first season streamed here once. CR really needs to fire the person who negotiates the licensing deals with the publishers.

I'm very pleased with the lineup. I watch everything and have always been a quantity over quality person, so this lineup suits me perfectly. I'm also glad that CR has picked up multiple long ongoing series, including ones that would have otherwise gone unsubbed (Folktales from Japan, Polar Bear Cafe etc).

Out of the 27 series that have been announced I'll be watching 23 of them here. The remaining 4 are delaycasts, so I'll be watching them elsewhere.

The only things I'm disappointed about are no Cardfight Vanguard S2 and Ginga e Kickoff, namely because both series will struggle to get subs...

^Yes, I'm disappointed no one has been subbing Ginga e Kickoff!

I think CR got a relatively good number even if it's not the animes I wanted. Well, that doesn't matter since I watch from a different site. (CR doesn't stream most simulcasts in my region sadly)

While some of the announcements are disappointing, there are still plenty of good shows. Just try watching some of them and maybe you'll find some you like. Plus there are still 2 announcements left.

Also, Crunchyroll doesn't choose what they get. They try to get everything. This is just what they were able to get. Japanese licensors aren't always cooperative or reasonable you know.

CR can't do anything if Funimation take the rights. Funimation is a DVD company so they get first dibs most of the time. Funimation and Kadokawa (Japanese license holder) are to blame for CR not getting Zombie.

I knew this topic was going to be trouble as soon as I saw choices in the title.

Crunchyroll doesn't waltz into the office of the licensor, look over a list of anime with price tags next to them and then say, "I'll take this one and these two, but not that one". They make an offer on all series, and the licensor either accepts it, makes a counter-offer, refuses it, or simply says they aren't interested in licensing the series for simulcast.

The reason CR gets series that make some people ask, "Why did CR pick this", is because they didn't pick it, they got it. When you cast a net trying to catch everything, you may get some creatures that don't look particularly edible, although some may turn out to be surprisingly tasty, while others are indeed as bad as they appear.

Apparently CR needs to put up a big banner for the second half of Fate/Zero (and probably will, once it actually starts), as there are apparently a lot of people that have reading comprehension issues. It is listed as a continuing anime on the lineup page, and was announced as continuing anime in the Site News.

KoreZom was always in doubt, since it is a Kadokawa series (given their relationship with Nico Nico).

The fact that Funimation had licensed the first series was just icing on the cake, but prior to Summer 2011, wouldn't have prevented CR from getting the license.

About the only hope at this point (especially for international viewers), is that CR was actually able to get it, but it will be on a delay from the Funico simulcast. If that had happened, however, I would expect an announcement soon after the one Funimation made.

Yeah, I understand that there is a ton of red tape to go through for a legit site like CR to go through to get us anime we can watch. It sucks. CR tries hard to get us what we want and is why I'm still with them. Guess I woke up a little cranky this morning. Thanks to Ztype0, Ancient One, and everyone else for responding on my first forum. I'll continue to support CR for all their hard work.

so they bid on every series? Don't they have a budget? What happens if they end up having more than their budget accept? Wouldn't they have to choose some over others?

I know CR announced they'd have the second part of F/Z, but it hasn't been shown yet and I haven't seen any information on when it will be. I don't know much about the industry, but if they were simulcasting it, shouldn't the first episode been shown by now? Even if they are delaying showing it it'd be nice to know that. I dropped my membership for now because it was the only thing I felt worth having a membership for this season (though tbh I don't like these ads and low quality, I'll probably cave and get it again).

And I'm reserving my thoughts about the overall season until I've watched a few of these. At first glance it seems a bit boring, but I'll probably get interested in a lot of shows once I start watching them.

Crunchyroll will probably update the simulcast timing this week. Since it is in the top half of the Spring lineup under continuing series, that means that it will stream under the same conditions as Fall: Nico Nico Douga streams it "worldwide" for a week, then Crunchyroll gets it that episode exactly a week after Nico Nico streamed it.

I suppose CR should announce an update with Fate/Zero saying that for Spring, episodes come out a week after they air in Japan.

I rather like some of the choices they made. Yeah I'm disappointed they didn't get all the ones I was most looking forward to (still got a few of them) but they have also gotten a lot of unexpected shows that I am now looking forward to. Main stream stuff is going to be seen by everyone regardless but the nitch shows you might not otherwise see can sometimes become your favorites with out you even realizing it.

Like any company, CR doesn't have an unlimited amount of funds, but as the number of series doesn't change drastically from one season to the next, that shouldn't be much of a factor. In the end, the more series CR gets, the more likely their revenue will rise in response.

The most important factor is how much revenue CR believes a show will contribute to their bottom line, vs. the minimum guarantee the licensor demands + the contract costs. Some of the "why did CR get that?" series probably had a very small MG, or perhaps none at all. Likewise, the licensor expects (whether rightly or wrongly) the show will do well, they could demand a high MG (despite the fact that if it did do well, they would get paid the same), and CR has to make the call on whether they will have enough of an audience to cover that.

Crunchyroll's simulcast of the first half of Fate/Zero was one week after niconico.jp, so there is little reason to expect that to change. So no, the first episode shouldn't have been shown by now. It should be shown this coming Saturday (April 14).

I wish they simulcasted Accel World, KoreZom, Hyouka and Sankarea. Because first episode wise except for Hyouka it is pretty great. Love Ayumu from KoreZom of the Dead, Kuroyukihime and Sanka Rea from Sankarea. Nonetheless, they have some shows that they are simulcasting that I like such as Kuroko no Basket, Upotte and Kimi to Boku 2. In addition, why would someone watch Polar Bear Cafe. Let me guess its about a polar bear owning a cafe. Kind of disappointed with CR.
