"It's not that bad..." WHY is this important? Because any internet able Joe can do this:

"Is there anyway to prevent stalk... people from getting my information?"
Of course, I suggest using any variation or combination of:

(For normal users or People that can't/don't want to learn about how to use a new program, but want to be secure) Abine's:

http://www.abine.com/dntdetail.php

//Personally I feel DoNotTrack+ is a very easy way to start protecting oneself //and it shows you the nice big number of prevented information collecting //agencies that seems to steadily not go down...

(For Advanced or Patient users who want to best protect themselves from information collecting agencies, ex's, stalkers, that guy next door, Cartman, Mcdonalds, and/or Team Rocket) Ghostery's:

www.ghostery.com

Additional Apps?

1) noscript ! (App) --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/
2) Click&Clean ! (App) --> suggest enabling remove LSO's in preferences and using everything time frame for this app--> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/clickclean/
3) betterPrivacy ! (App) --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/betterprivacy/
4) A FireWall ! (Programs) --> depends on Operating System use DuckDuckgo to find one (Look below for explanation)

-Alpha) Linux (Secure @$$ Operating system) --> For new users I recommend Mint Linux, Ubuntu(TM), or Fedora

-Beta) Change your search provider. I'd say Bookmark and USE:
https://duckduckgo.com/html/
or
http://seeks-project.info/search_exp.php/search?q=Search+the+Web

Links to add provider for Firefox --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/duckduckgo-html/
--> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/seeks-fr/

PS: You are welcome! (^O^)
Be wary of SOPA's and PIPA's; And of course:

Please spread the word, even copy this guide! For the Love of *PEEP*! (=.=)

And please keep comments clean and informative. For example, if you don't like Linux distributions say why; "it doesn't look like Windows" or "I only like mac" or "Photoshop(TM) doesn't play nice with Ubuntu" or "It gives me too much free time because I used to spend 8 hours+ cleaning my Windows computer of viruses, Trojans, and Trolls." Stuff like that...

And I am not affiliated with any company stated above, except for Linux. Tinkering with GNU/Linux is a personal hobby.

The internet is definitely not a safe place at all. You should act as if everyone you speak to on the internet as a stranger. People on the internet are easily able to make a persona of being a 'good' person and manipulate you into thinking that you are close to them. Do not make that mistake because you will be the only one in pain, that 'stranger' doesn't care. It was his/her motive along the line.

People aren't who they seem to really be when you look at their online profile, it's just a cover up to make themselves look good. Internet friends aren't actual friends until you know them in real life. Don't even trust me.

Or is this all too excessive?
