Synopsis
The Achiga Girls' Academy in Nara once defeated regional mahjong powerhouse Bansei High School. It advanced into the national team semifinals but lost to the eventual champion, and the mahjong club was later disbanded.

Six years later, elementary school student Shizuno Takakamo befriends transfer student Nodoka Haramura. The two eventually enter Achiga Girls', but Nodoka transfers out of the school in the second year.

When Shizuno sees Nodoka on television the following year as the national middle school individual mahjong champion, she decides to revive Achiga's mahjong club.

Seems like I`m first?

I liked ep 1, looks like I`ll be able to forgive them for not making a sequel to the original series instead, since the original characthers(at least main) will appear in it.

I really enjoyed the first episode, too. So far it's really following the manga. If it continues like that, you'll also see Toka, Koromo, Momo, Mihoko, etc. as well. :3 Achiga has practice matches against some familiar schools. ;P

I loved the first series of Saki, so I'll definitely be watching this new one. I was starting to get emotional during the first episode when the club reunited.

Does really just nobody watch this series? Thats sad.
The show is actually pretty good, if one enjoy cute chacters doing cute things, plus playing not-so-cute serious-mahjong with over-the-top powers. Due the fact that its limited to 12 episodes and beeing not about the mainteam, the pacing is much faster then the first Saki-Season and the team seems to be much weaker.

The dont really have on of the monsters and insanely good players from Saki. The Dragon Road and the Seeker of Warmth are pretty good, but still not so overhelming like Kuromo, Saki or even Hisa. While we havent seen much of the others ability, they seem not be stronger than the two sisters.

But that aside, its very enjoyable show, with fun, cute times and hopefully rough and awesome mahjong in future episodes.

I just hope that Saki's team wins and the Achiga school gets a "try again next year." I would be angry for a new team blow away 25 episodes of Saki. They can get second place but Saki's team must win the nationals. They just have to for this series to end well.

I haven't seen the original series, and I didn't think I'd like a show revolving around Mahjong, but despite that, I'm enjoying it. It's not great, but it is entertaining.

I might go back and watch the original after I'm done with this.

Oh, please do. But when you do, please be patient. Saki is much slower paced then its spin-off. And the beginning is a bit slow. When they go the first tournament, its getting really interesting.

Achiga have no chance of beating Kiyosumi. They couldnt even beat Ryuumonbuchi at half of their power. Saki is too much of a monster to be beat by the rather normal girls of Achiga. So dont worry, Saki will win (at least over Achiga).
I am not even really sure if Achiga survive Sakis Sister.

It doesn't seem to match world-wise for them to get to the final (and beat Teru), but it would work perfectly storywise.

Achiga could play Kiyosumi in the teams and Saki could play Teru in the individuals.

Still, the way they present Teru, its hard to picture them beating her team.

~~~
PS: Do the Achiga players aside from the sisters have any 'powers', or are they just good players? I'm kind of trying to keep a feel for that, but its hard because we've only really seen Kuro play any.
Saki sounds quite diffrent then what she did in Saki.
Though she is played by the same girl.
From what I've gathered from the manga so far, only the sisters seem to have any known powers. I think the other three are just good players. But who knows? Maybe they have something that we haven't been shown yet since even the manga zips through the matches.
Also, Achiga could lose to Teru and still play in the finals. After all, four schools can make it. They just have to at least be in 2nd place from their bracket in order to move on, with Teru's team, and face Kiyosumi.
... Thinking about it now... I hope Teru doesn't 'break' Kuro. O--O
Oh damn you're right, I hadn't thought of that for some reason ><
I haven't read the manga at all, but since you have, has it revealed how Teru plays? I know from the anime that she's overwhelming to the 'shut teams out in the first round' level, but whats her gimmick?
I think Kuro will be okay though, they handled getting seriously bitchslapped by Koromo (sp) just fine ><
Yeah, its just started the match with Teru recently.
lol That is true, but Koromo wasn't even playing at full strength, so it may not have been as crazy as we're used to. lol
