New Spring Titles: Medaka Box, Queen's Blade Rebellion and Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

In the end, no more boxes = no more certain announcements. well it wouldn't be the first time them pick something up after a season begins. so I wouldn't be too surprised.if a few more get announced in a month or so. |

It's nice to see the big selection this season, but I'm a bit sad that some of the shows I previously enjoyed on CR won't receive their second seasons here as well. Since this is a business I understand why CR is never quick to say "We won't be airing (insert title here)" but it's tough to be left hanging. I'll just cross my fingers and hope that one or two of them have yet to be picked up.
Whatever happens, I'll just enjoy what I am getting to watch. Looks like a nice listing of shows. =) |

Catching up with everything I missed while on vacation~

Yeah ~ about 6/7 weeks would be about it, since they'll be getting busy negotiating for the new season by the 7th week. Hold off on dying just yet ~ the announcement season is normally not quite over when the last box is filled. The boxes are not series they are hoping to get, they are series that they have a contract for. So when they are still negotiating, they wait until the contract is signed to put a new box up. Either as a Crunchyroll simulcast or someone picking it up as a simulcast and Crunchyroll getting a delayed seasonal stream, there's still all of tomorrow for a Eureka 7 AO announcement to be made in advance of the Japanese broadcast time. kitsuneshoujo wrote: I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE!! You released all the "sleepers" that only some people would like, and then left the bigger titles for last! First they announce the ones that they have the main streaming license for, then they announce the ones that they are sublicensing. Pretty much always going to be mostly that way, the streaming only series that all the R1 distributors passed on first ... ... and then the series that were picked up by North American distributors. Because when they sublicense, first the main licensee has to finish the contract, and then Crunchyroll has to sign the contract with the main licensee, so it naturally takes longer before Crunchyroll has a contract in hand. |

Oh man, I'm pissed off! Just as I thought the anime industry and Crunchy Roll couldn't sink any lower. How on earth can they make anime like Medaka Box and Upotte...IT'S FRACKING UPOTTE?!?!?! What are they, insane?!
If the summer anime suck as much as this season does, I'm terminating my CR-account...if that's possible... |

Oh come on! Aside from Mysterious Girlfriend X and Space Brothers, none of the most promising shows reach Denmark. North America, you can keep Upotte!! and Saki for all I care, just give me Kids on the Slope, Medaka Box and Dusk Maiden of Amnesia! D:

He got some flack about it, but I think its spot on. Of course, Crunchyroll does not pass judgement or pick and choose ~ they license whatever broadcasts in Japan that they can get a license too, and let the audience decide which ones to watch. |

What the fuck are you talking about!? this season will probably be the best season of the year with Zetman(bot on cr but on vizanime.com),space brothers(on cr),kids on the slope(on cr),kukuro no basket(on cr),fate/zero 2(on cr),ozma(on cr),mysterious girlfriend x(on cr),dusk maiden of amnesia(on cr),Sankrea(funimation got it) and so many amazing series have been licensed. I personally am looking forward to medaka box, it is made by the creators of bakemonogatori and nisemonogatori and I heard in the later chapters it becomes a great shounen series, heard the first few episodes are comedical though. |

Spring 2012 on Crunchy for these who don't live in US or other english speaking country:
Name: Hiiro No Kakera Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos OZMA Space Brothers Folktales from Japan You and Me 2 Saint Seiya Omega Yurumate3Dei NARUTO: Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals Sengoku Collection Polar Bear Cafe Saki Episode of Side A Upotte!! Kuroko's Basketball Phi Brain Kids on the Slope Mysterious Girlfriend X Tsuritama Dusk Maiden of Amnesia Queen's Blade Rebellion Medaka Box Availability: Scan Yes Yes Scan Yes Yes No Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Scan Scan No No Scan No No No No Points 6 3 4 6 1 6 3 2 2 3 3 4 5 5 2 5 7 4 7 2 10 Scan means that anime is available in same Scandinavian countries. Yes means it's available in Poland (read worldwide except Japan/Asia) with premium membership. NARUTO: Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals is unavailable in same European countries. Points are my attempt to simply define value of new show. There are calculated by adding how many people put that anime on their watching or wish list on MAL database and then divided by 1000 and rounded. It not entirely right but should give same idea what shows are most anticipated. So 9/21 shows are available for me, it gives 42%. For Vikings there is 14/21 shows (66%) There is maximum of 90 points. Poland (and worldwide licences) got 28 points(31%). Vikings got 57 points(63%). It's worth to be noted that, despite worldwide licences make 42% of number of new show, most of it are low-pointers nobody with many shows nearly nobody wanted to watch.Within shows over 5 points only "You and Me 2" are available worldwide (1/9= 11%). Vikings have it better with 6/9 high pointers (67%). This season is not the best as crunchy don't have the most anticipated series like Sankarea (14p); Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead (13p); Accel World (12p) or Zetman (9p). Crunchy has only Medaka Box with 10p. Well if Fate/Zero is treated as second, it's worth 15 points, but as crunchy listed it as ongoing, i don't count it. Fairy Tail is not really ongoing series. It's actually unavailable to anyone who, didn't started watching it at the beginning. Unless you want to start from middle. I didn't count ongoing anime as Naruto would get 93 point(so it's worth more then whole season) or make 56% of all available points. Well valuing series only on number of watchers on single website is wrong :P Ongoing series Naruto Shippuden Fate Zero Fairy Tail SKET Dance Hunter x Hunter Bodacious Space Pirates The Knight in the Area Recorder and Randsell Poyopoyo Yes No Theoretically Yes but practically No Yes No Scan No Yes Yes Ps. There could be same mistakes. I tried to correct all numbers after adding Medaka Box. Pps. As for me, I decide overnight after watching first episode of nyarko. There are same series I want to watch (namely You and Me2, Nyarko, Polar Bear Cafe, OZMA and from ongoing Sket Dance). Still, should i pay full price for 1/3 of hamburger? And it's ham it's missing! |

Kinda wonder if they are going to catch up on Box like they did with Maiden... would be nice, otherwise it's a week behind... but certainly one I was hoping they would pick up.
Maybe we'll get another mystery announcement later on in the month as things come out... but I would imagine this is it for the absoloutely certain pickups, but they might hit us with another one or two. Either way though... I'm watching 26/30 current simulcasts that CR has... this also is probably the best season for legal licensing so far... literally I think there are less than 5 non kids titles that didn't get picked up this season. I think the season will soon be coming where we see 100% licensed between CR, NN/Funi, VIZ and AN. |

So far behind on anime... need to catch up

mapokl wrote: Ps. There could be same mistakes. I tried to correct all numbers after adding Medaka Box. (1) Space Brothers is not limited to English Speaking Countries Plus Scandinavian Countries ~ it also includes Portugal and South America and the Middle East. It doesn't really fit in your "Yes / Scan / No" framework. Similarly Tsuritama is available in South America and Hiro no Kakera is available in Brazil and Portugal. (2) Folk Tales from Japan is worldwide outside Japan to subscribing members (anime or premium) As far as whether you should pay the same price ~ if a streaming site was trying to get the Continental European rights to streaming anime, it would have to charge a lot more than $8/month subscription to deliver 8.1 anime series, so counting spreading of the contract costs over much fewer people, you'd be paying well over 10 euro a month to get that many series. Whether to subscribe at all at the number of anime that Continental Europe got in Winter 2011? I wouldn't have done. I need three series I am specifically going to the site to see ~ not just watching to pass the time ~ to justify the subscription for myself. If I lived in Continental Europe, I would subscribe 3 months at a time, and with the anime available in Continental Europe in Winter 2011, I would have taken a pass last season. But with the current line-up, I'd be just hovering on the edge. With the lineup available in South America, I'd be signing up, for sure ~ Space Bros. would definitely tilt it over the edge. |

Yeah so I guess some of you reacted to my post. All I'm saying is that there are so many manga and animes which deserves an adaptation or a second season more. What happened to Mushishi? Kino's Journey? Nichijou? Deadman Wonderland? Arakawa Under the Bridge? Michiko to Hatchin? Are we just gonna sweep these quality shows under the rug and make anime with fan service? We already have tons of anime with ecchi and fan service. Sure, there are Dusk maiden of amnesia and Sankrea and they're okay but I expected more out of this year and it feels like ever since the abrupt ending of Deadman Wonderland, 80% of all anime since then have been either brainless comedy or anime with pretty generic plots.
I expected more...that's all... |
