Cardfight Vanguard has such a huge fanbase on CR, bigger then most their other series, they just assume no one watches it on here? look at all the comments on the last episode of Season 1. I don't watch cardfight vanguard, but so many people liked it on here and now they have to resort to pirating it, cause CR is so fucking lazy.

CR would know better than anyone how many people watched the series, as they actually have access to the metrics that show the number of views. The fact that Bushiroad apparently did not, makes me wonder if the show didn't exceed the number of views covered by the minimum guarantee that CR paid.

As to the fanbase being "bigger than most their other series", one of the few numbers we have access to, the number of Facebook likes, says otherwise. As an example, Another, which was only 12 episode, has 871 likes, while Cardfight, after 65 episodes, has 382. There would have to be a strong (and mysterious) negative correlation between the shows fanbase and Facebook users to explain that away. By comparison, one of CR's known poor performers, Milky Holmes comes up with only 206 likes.

You may be confused a dedicated fanbase with a large one.

I don't think you can really say that the number of Facebook likes represent how many people watch a particular anime. I for one watched Cardfight and did not "like" it on Facebook. While I do have a Facebook account i rarely use it. So in my opinion there aren't any accurate numbers available to the public about how many people watch a show on Crunchyroll. I also wanted to make it clear that I am not saying that there are a bunch of people like me out there who don't click the Like button and that there is a huge fanbase for Cardfight, because I don't know that either. Would be cool though if Crunchyroll implemented a feature like what Youtube has with the number of views. Crunchyroll already has a way to detect if someone watches a stream to a certain point because they use it during those contest where you watch shows to get badges.

I didn't mean to imply that the number of Facebook "likes" indicate the number of viewers, but it should indicate the number of viewers relative to another series, unless of course, you want to propose that for some reason a much smaller percentage of viewers of the show are Facebook members that use the like button than viewers of all other shows.

In the absence of a "views" counter, the number of Facebook "likes" is the best metric available to the public.

Put simply if the number of "likes" for show A is twice that of show B, then the probability is high that roughly twice as many people viewed show A. It does not tell us how many people viewed either show, but that wasn't the point.

To contribute to the conversation about Cardfight Vanguard, for those who were following it:

It would be interesting to see them put a view counter. I don't know how one would discuss whether Cardfight Vanguard is popular or is not popular. One thing that is true is that they have finished the main arc... in 65 episodes. While I really enjoyed the series, if you know anything about the card game it has not been released heavily in the US or other areas yet. The last I checked, there was a plan to release the second set in english... while I believe Japan has 5 sets out? My point is that, the show has gone as far as the cards and it has not achieved great popularity worldwide (compared with other card games). I love the show, and I am very interested to see where it goes, but for right now, I am not terribly judgmental of any decision to sign it or not to sign it. If CR could get every show, they would. But, there are business elements and they have to make decisions that are best for the company as well as its loyal subscribers and viewers.

When you go to crunchyroll website, the simulcasts are listed by popularity, so Naruto most popular,Bleach second, Gintama use to be third before it ended, Nisemgatori was 4th, Hunter X Hunter was 5th now it's 4th again.

Has CR said anything about Cardfight Vanguard? I wish I knew what was going on.. I wanna see the 2nd season, and this is most likely the only place that will get it (legally)... I'm sure I'll find some place to watch it....

Its 17th on the popularity list ~ I don't know what they take into account with that ~ but if it has a high proportion of free members watching ad-stream views, it would be easy for it to fall short of making back a minimum guarantee, since streaming ads do not generate very much revenue.

I have the feeling that the serious series are (for whatever reason) not available in the Netherlands. Since I did not sign up for simple anime series which rehash existing plots over and over I will have to evaluate if I will keep my membership for Naruto only, as Bleach ended...

I understand that CR is bound by licenses and regions but I hope that customers cancelling their subscription is a message that comes across...

The only series CR licensed this spring that strikes me as more or less serious that I see missing from Northern Europe are the two noitaminA series, Kids on the Slope and Tsuritama, and I'm not yet sure how serious Tsuritama is. Its definitely more of the serious series than the Fall2011 series, when all the Netherlands got was gdgd fairies, Squid Girl, You and Me, and Un-Go.

A year ago, noitaminA was streaming North America only, so expanding to include Australia, New Zealand, the UK&Eire and South Africa is an improvement, but Fuji TV obviously has a long way to go to catch up with TV Tokyo in terms of wide availability of their overseas streaming anime.

If you mean serious anime versus derivative ecchi fan service, it looks to me like the other way around, with the Netherlands getting 2/3 of all new series, more than 2/3 of the serious anime and less than 2/3 of the derivative echhi fan service.

If you have a tighter filter than that, and there isn't enough over a single season to justify a subscription, one option is dropping down to an anime membership every second season, until Crunchyroll's offerings in Northern Europe get over the threshold for the stuff you like to watch.

The more premium members a country has, the easier Crunchyroll can get licenses for that country. There are some other factors too, but the number of premium members is the main reason the UK, Netherlands and Scandinavia get more series than the rest of Europe.

So to get more series in your country you'd better keep your premium membership and try to get other people in your region to buy a premium membership. Do NOT use a proxy or VPN to pretend that you're in the US. It will screw up the statistics and makes the US market share look bigger and your country's market share look smaller. Only watch on CR whatever is available in your country and use fansubs if you really want to watch something else.
