DId the player or video encoding change in the past couple of weeks?
|
I used to be able to play back 720p video fine for the most part but now I'm having issues that seem like buffering/processing problems. Anytime there is something like exaggerated film grain in a video, the video makes a bunch of short pauses and starts back to back. None of them last longer than like half a second but it never used to happen until recently.
Did something change in the player or how you all encode your videos that would affect playback? |

Just noticed this on my MBA as well, so I checked my CPU usage and it was jumping up to 90% for flash. This is a MBA Late 2010. I've tried it with both 11.2 and 11.1 (due to all the problems with 11.2 I prefer 11.1 till it's fixed).
It's not the fastest proc in these, 1.4GHz Core2. Was going to try it in XBMC but it seems it goes 480p now regardless if I choose 720p (it din't use to, guess the plugin needs updating). Will have to check later on the MBP instead. It would be nice with some feedback on this tho. |

I'm actually having the same problem with buffering 720p / 1080p videos. I checked my internet connection and it's full and normal. I need to change to 480p, or, wait like 10 minutes for the 720p to load up all the way. Maybe something wrong with the servers?

I haven't had problems with buffering, but I have noticed that the picture quality of recent 720p streams are absolutely terrible. It doesn't even look 720p quality with all the jagged edges and aliasing abound. Even the subtitles have aliasing problems!
Did something go wrong encoding videos recently? |

That problem is tied in with this issue: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-756164/latest-flash-player-update-112-breaks-fullscreen |

Very strange that only recently encoded videos suffer from the aliasing issue. Also, 1080p streams don't seem to be affected. That's why I didn't think it would be Flash. If it was a Flash problem across the board, then why would older videos play fine (say Moretsu Pirates episode 6 versus 14). Thanks though for pointing me to that thread. Much appreciated. |

The encodes have been pretty bad recently and I don't mean the flash update thing.
Ever since the announcement of "1080P" video, the 480p and 720p haven't looked so good either on PC or even just 480p on the Roku. Yet, when I started watching an older series that pre-dates the "1080P" announcement, the clarity of the videos are multitudes better. |
