Everything would change if Naruto was a girl, the entire story would have to be altered completely.

well, it would explain the creepy stalker like obsession he has with Sasuke, if he were a she.

Damn it 10 minutes too late!! That's what I was going to say!

Well considering how the manga creator treats his female characters Naruko would totally suck.

I don't really think so. I know you'd have to change some relationships, but that's about it. The rest of the story could pretty much unfold as it did.

Haha....yeah but you have to understand that any small change can cause major changes for everything else.

This would be true particularly where relationships are directly important to the story, which they are not necessarily in Naruto.

Hmm i am not sure that is true but we are getting off topic, let me ask a different question would you if you could choose have him be male or female?

The story would be the same either way in the end. You'd only be exploiting Naruto's sexuality to change the story/make it better if he were female, not really adding anything. So I would choose male.

We would not be talking about this if Naruto were female simply because there would be no following. If you look at the role that females play in this type of anime, you would see that being the heroine is not one of them. If Naruto were female, she would have to continuously show her panties and boobs and be chasing after one guy along with all the other females in the story in order to get airtime. Let's face it, in these anime types, a fully-clothed, half-way intelligent female who plays the role of a heroine in a mega-series is non-existent.

So to make a long story short, I think Naruto is better off the way he is.

I think a bigger question is why do asian people depict their heroes as caucasian males with blonde hair and blue eyes. Seems like a conflict of interest to me... what do you think?

The only real change if Naruto were a girl is the fanbase. We know how things end up if the fanbase is filled with Type B otakus.

I would pick the male Naruto since it will breed less retards.

I'd rather keep Naruto just the way he is because I'm pretty attached to him. I think the series can go from silly and cute to sad to fierce to whatever because his character is layered and can do the same, and can do it believably even though usually he's goofy and uncouth. And I think it's more fun, interesting, and kinky to watch him seduce his male mentors with his Sexy Jutsu than if he were actually female and doing the predictable girlie thing. It just has a different humor. There's a homo"social" vibe that seems intentional and probably wouldn't be the same if he were a girl, even if they did a homosocial vibe in that direction. I'll leave it at that since not everyone's a fangirl who wants to delve too deep into the homo"sexual" vibe. They can certainly do a similar story with a female protagonist, same fighting, same plot outcomes, but the overall gutfeel would just be different, for me anyway. Not saying it would be worse (or better), just different.

I've wondered this myself and wonder it about Bleach also, with Ichigo's "naturally" orange hair. Do you think it's a combo of commercialism for worldwide appeal, and something personal for the creator? I feel there is some reaching toward less traditional/"stereotypical" old-school Asian ideals in Naruto (sorry, don't mean to offend anyone) so maybe this reflects the creator's yearning for and toying with a nontraditional identification? Or it could be it's all in the realm of fantasy and so he wanted to create a character who looks the opposite of him and most Asian people when they're au naturel, just for escapist fun?

I think if Naruto was a girl the character would be more annoying in my opinion. But I suppose then him chasing Sasuke would make more sense like female Naruto would be in love with sasuke and then female naruto and sakura would have to fight for sasuke love or something then sasuke wouldn't be the rival it would be rivals with sakura and ino and then they might as well change it to a shojo haha jk about the shojo part. Okay i have a wild imagination XD.

However if it was female with the same characteristics that naruto has now i probably wouldn't even bother watching or reading it for that matter cuz i would find it annoying. So if they changed it to a female kicking ass then yeah i would actually watch it then lol.

Those are some heavy duty good points i do not have the energy tonight to fully answer all of this i am going to say that it is all very well put, and in some areas i do agree that he is better as a guy and in others he would be better as a girl that is just my opinion, HOWEVER i will say this, i think they should do a whole episode of him in sexy jutsu form to see if my point is correct or not cause a lot of people have the same questions and opinions i do about this subject.

I still fail to see how changing Naruto's gender could make the story that much more interesting. It would be a "because it's a girl" thing, which I doubt would enhance the character's status.

Honestly, it would be like taking Goku and turning him female. What's the point? What good would that do for the story?
